  • Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - 1993 2.0E - Hesitation when cold 14 Jun 2008 (Forum)
This only lasts for about 20-30 secs and after that it is fine all day. Is this something electrical (HT Leads or plugs)? TIA
  • Missing engine 10 May 2008 (Forum)
It's missing from the current Focus range, but the last brochure described it as 'fresh and exciting' and 'leading the engine line up'. Not such an anoraky question as it sounds, because the extra 15/20 bhp over the standard 1.6 made a big difference. The Ti-Vct also used less fuel, so it seemed to be a winner all round.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.8 Zetec - Poor Fuel Economy 11 Feb 2008 (Forum)
My Focus is only delivering 23-25 mls per gallon on a run and some town work,115,000 mls, new plugs, leads, air filter, replaced so far. Would new injectors help or is this normal MPG, in the real world, for this model? No problems with performance, doesn't use oil, any ideas, experiences welcome!
  • Unleaded fuel additive 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have an engine which has not been converted for unleaded fuel. I have been using Carplan/Tetrosyl lead replacement additive. This was a manganese based product, which they now no longer manufacture, Carplan do another additive which is potassium based. I have read on a Historic Vehicle site that you should be consistent in the additive that is used; presumably this means the base element, rather than the manufacturer.

  • Stupid designs maintenance wise 2 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The failure of a starter motor on a friends A class has inspired (?) this question. To have this fixed the engine must be dropped to enable access thus leading to a large bill. I'm sure I read somewhere that to change half the 'plugs on a certain model of Japanese sports car requires the engine to be dropped. How many other 'stupid designs' can members think of or know of or dealt with?
  • Police filming bikers or not... 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Interesting lead article in this weeks MCN. Police apparently now filming bikers at bike meets looking to identify those bikers who speed past forward facing cameras. In an interesting twist one biker approached two guys who stated they were from South Wales police and produced police ID.

  • Flat R Reg Zetec Escort 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)
My R Reg 1.8si 16v Zetec escort has power loss at around 2000 revs when accelerating in first and second gear, I have recently changed plugs and HT leads aswell as air filter but this has has little if any effect. wondering if anyone has any ideas, have also noticed in the past couple of days that the temperature dial on the dash does not move, could this have something to do with the fault.
  • Pay under warranty ? Mazda misfire 26 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I was told yesterday by a friend of mine that I might have to PAY if they can't find any fault, I was astounded. Is this true ? Also, any idea as to what it could be ? (HT leads ? spark-plugs ? the car's just under 3 yrs old and has only covered 25,000 miles)
  • Loss of drive - 98 Mondeo 28 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I'm having problem with the accerlation on my Mondeo and even after replacing the complete exhaust (including the Cat), Distributor, Plugs & Leads did not fix the problem (thanks a lot). Just been to another garage today and they said no fault on the ECU but it "might" be the Throttle Sensor. Any advice before I fork out more money. Thanks in advance.
  • BMW X5 Loadspace liner for dogs 26 Feb 2005 (Forum)

  • SL500 96; what is this part? 12 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have a slight ticking noise coming from a small (about 2 inches across) unit mounted on a rubber mounting bracket in front of the ABS pump on the n/s inner wing; there is a 2 pin electrical lead running to it and two pipes; one running into the unit and the other out of it - there is a mark on the top with an arrow with the word MOT on it (motor?). I can feel the unit pulsing at the same rate as the ticking noise - any idea what it does?
  • Ford Mondeo Td Immobilizer 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)

  • Chaos in Hull 26 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Leading on from the 4 police car thread: Did anyone get caught up in the chaos in Hull yesterday? A minor accident at 5am involving a lorry and a car blocked the main A63 serving Hull centre just in time for the 8am rush hour - total gridlock across the whole city.
  • Freelander Headgasket 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
As I understand it, The Rover V6 has very naroow cooling passages in the cylinder head: any blockages will lead to localised boiling. And with Rover's poor engineering history you can be sure once that happnes - and it may happen without any external signs - the gasket could go at anytime. Like 30 minutes. 3: My respomnse is I would never buy anything manuafactrued by Rover: cars , engines gearboxes . anything.
  • Traffic police cuts linked to road death 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
An article in today's Observer confirms what many here have been saying for some time. See http://tinyurl.com/38hcw The article argues that lack of enforcement is leading to more deaths and an increase in drink driving. One notable statistic is that the number of dedicated traffic officers in 2001-02 was just under 6,500 but 8,900 ten years before. (Not added to the speeding or speed camera threads because it touches on issues wider than that.)
  • Golf MK2 - Chug chug chugging away! 12 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Hi, My 1984 golf starts to misfire when hitting 40 in fourth gear. I have checked/cleaned all the plugs and leads and after initial promising results it came back again a few short hours later. Some other advise has been to replace my fuel pump as this may be petrol starvation. Has anybody got any further advise as to stop this annoying occurance?
  • The Motorists Champion 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
That must be a conversion on a par with Saint Paul. What will follow? Congestion charging for buses, new roads for London and the man himself leading a rally in Trafalgar Square protesting about fuel duty, screaming "Can't pay, won't pay" through a megaphone? Maybe we've misjudged him. The man's a closet Petrol Head, just waiting for the politically oppotune moment to show his true colours and seize power as The Motorist's Champion.
  • Street Legal Sat.16-02-02 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Am surprised not to see any comments re Fenton Breslers article in Saturdays Telegraph in which he states under Headlights and Front Foglights and I quote, these must be used when visibility is less than 100metres whatever time day or night and Always during the hours of darkness I foresee this latter misinformation on the use of Front Foglights leading to even more idiots using them illegally in clear conditions.
