Nissan almera 2.2 dci - Garage cant fixed the fault they caused! 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi There, I'm really stuck with my car now, it is intermitently cutting out and not restarting. The problems leading to this are; 1. Noticed a rattle appear from the engine and took it to my local garage asking them to see what was wrong specifically 'is it the timing chain?' 2. Local garage says the vacuum pump and chain was worn so replaced this. -

Ford Focus - Impending fuel system problems 28 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The engine has always been notably coa*** and rough under load -- not massively so, think along the lines of an early-2000s Korean engine, but noisier than I would expect a leading manufacturer to be. It's just on the upper edge of what I would consider acceptable noise for a 1.6 petrol. It is, however, quiet and stable at idle, and comfortably passed its MOT last week. Before I mention all this to my mechanic I'd like a few pointers as to what may or may not be amiss. -
VW mk2 Golf 1300 transistorized ignition - VW MK2 Golf chugs to a halt. 8 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The fuel filter is fairly new and the fuel pump was replaced, this did not solve the problem. All ht leads appear in good condition. -
Ford Mondeo Mk3 2.0 Duratec - Cylinder 1 misfire 25 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Then 3 weeks ago the engine management light came on and it developed a misfire, together with giving out alot of blue smoke when revving. I immediately changed the HT Leads, Sparks and Coil Pack to try and solve the misfire but to no avail. I decided to take the engine head off to see what the problem was. On removing the head there was a hole about the size of a pea in one of the exhaust valves on cylinder one. -
Citroen ZX wont start. Help! 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I'm going to change the ignition system tonight as it probably needs doing anyway (distributor cap, rotor arm, plugs, leads), and check the compression. Any other ideas on what could be causing this? - it's driving me mad! -
Hyundai i10 - Hyundai i10 EMU Warning light flashing 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The EMU warning light started flashing in November 09. First it was 'Damp'; then condensation; Tracking Leads; Plugs; Coils. Then the EMU was changed in March 2010. Hyundai gave 2 free services for the hassel (Fair enough - brownie points where due), (The wiper switch broke in June, but that's another matter). -
Ford Fiesta Saloon - Fiesta coolant problem 13 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have run the engine up to normal temperature from cold while stationary and there is no leak. I disconnected the temperature sensor lead with the engine running and the fan comes on in safe mode. This seems to suggest that the fan, relay and fuse are okay. I changed the sensor but that didn't help. The thermostat appears to work in that the top hose is cold until the engine warms up and then it becomes hot. -
ford fiesta - trying to cut out ? 23 Jul 2010 (Forum)
hi, i have a fiesta 1.4 petrol(2004) and it has developed an a anoying problem, while driving it has an intermitting problem of pulling back as if it was running short of petrol, then it will suddenly shoot forward, somtimes it has got so slow that i have had to pull over wait for a while and restart, i have had it to the garage several times with no joy. so far it has been on the dynostics m/ch no fault found, fuel cleaned out and new fuel filter, renewed core plugs, checked for water leaking onto electrics water-washer ect, new ht leads, air filter, oil and filter, tried leaving fuel filler cap slack as there is a vacume build up, sometimes it does seem to run ok, but when i do get the pulling back fault things i have noticed it does nt matter on the weather dry or wet, seems to happen when fuel is low ie 1st to 2nd mark, i,m starting to wonder if it could be a faulty fuel pump? -
HJ Comments on Average Speed Cameras Telegraph 9 Jun 2010 (Forum)
There is some evidence that average speed cameras actually cause crashes, as they did in the contraflow past Junction 3 of the M3 on 21st October, leading to some serious injuries and massive commuter congestion." The speed limits put in roadworks are almost always there partly to protect the road user as well as the workforce. For example, obstructions like a new gantry may be part-way through being installed at the end of a shift - they can't be properly protected, so the speed limit with no workforce there reduces the consequences in the event the obstruction gets hit. -
FIAT Grande Punto - Revoked licence 25 May 2010 (Forum)
Surely if one department thinks I am safe to work, but another does not think I am safe to drive its a poor show. My suspicion is that it is the interpretation of the report that has lead to the misunderstanding. In the meantime if I can not get to work (which I can't without driving) then I will lose my job. However I am worried that it is going to take as many months to sort out as it has taken for me to be informed (just short of 4 months). -
Ford Fiesta 1997 - Ford Fiesta 1997 (Mazda 121) Revs Dropping 15 May 2010 (Forum)
When I step on the clutch to free for example, the revs gets stuck for a while at 2700rpm and then drops down (either fast or normal). I recently serviced the car, changed the HT leads, changed the oil as well as the Idle Air Control Valve because it was giving other problems (rev counter went to about 4000rpm when I stepped on the clutch and I had no power even though the revs climbed normally. -
Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - 02 2.3 Mis Fire - At my wits end 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
No reoccuring condition that makes it do it so i am having a nightmare trying to find the problem. Garage have run a check and no fault codes come up, have changed leads coil pack, plugs fuel filter cam sensor and crank sensor and full service, but it is still happening and if anything more often than when i bought it 3 months ago. Mechanic is scratching his head and reckons there is only so much he can do. -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 00 1.0 Strange Juddering 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The only thing left now is the rotor arm, but I am surprised the Distributor Cap made such a difference, as there is still a fault (not there previous to the non starting) The HT leads all appear in good condition and the car is a very well maintained example. Any tips would be much appreciated. Regards Matthew -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.6 Which is heater hose for refilling coolant? 30 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I would like to learn how to do stuff like this, but don't find the haynes manual has enough detail for a novice. All I have done in the past is stuff like changing the oil filter and HT leads. The simple stuff really. Whilst i'm at it, what tools would i need to change the Cylinder head temp sensor? Apologies for asking a lot! -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2.0 Car not starting 7 Aug 2009 (Forum)
It was turning over but just not starting. My initial reaction was that it must be the battery. I got a set of jump leads and the car started. It was then parked for a few hours and when it came to starting same thing again. I attempted to start it again yesterday evening with the same result,I was bringing the car to my mechanic to have a look. -
Finding the perfect driving position. 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
We are often told that a bad posture at your desk can lead to long-term injury but what about the long-term effects of a bad driving position? Given that many of us will spend a large chunk of our lives behind the wheel, is this something that we should be giving more thought to? -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 2.5 Alternator problem - need advice ASAP 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My mate has now replaced the alternator with another new Bosch unit and also fitted a new battery (apparently they need a particular Lead Calcium battery and mine only had a cheapo one fitted). Despite that the lights are still flickering even when revving the car, the alternator is charging at 14.8V at idle and 15.11V when revving. -
Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.8 oil use/loss 29 Jun 2009 (Forum)
There are no obvious leaks and the exhaust gases are clear when driving along, but for that amount of oil osage one would expect the engine to be plastered or a real smoke screen coming out of the exhaust. I have difficulty in believing that the initial stages of head gasket failure could lead to such catastrophic oil loss without leaving an obvious trace. When I changed the oil shortly after purchasing the car a few months ago,I noticed that the old filter was squashed down on one side,as if it had not seated properly. The new one appeared to fit well, but I have not checked it since, but have wondered if there is a pressure release which operates in the filter housing which could vent out oil when running along?
