  I've only taken it for a short (4 mile) test drive so far. Any pointers much welcomed. Is it likely to be a solenoid issue, a control (ECU) issue or the 'box itself? And is it best to fit a known good replacement unit or have this one repaired?? Many thanks......

    The revs will suddenly drop and if you don't nail the throttle she just cuts out.  The ECU light has come on, it does this sometimes but has normally reset itself next time you turn the engine on. But this time, no dice and the cutting out is really getting on my nerves and is potentially dangerous.

  I have tried replacing relay "109" which I believe can cause problems but this has made no change. The AA have plugged in their diagnostic software and there are no errors stored on the ECU. The AA man said he thinks it could be the fuel pump relay which is a multi functional relay which could explain all the other lights. Before I take in to be looked at does anyone know the whereabouts of the fuel pump relay?

  I have been led to believe that it could be a solenoid fault, which is easily rectified by changing/updating the solenoid - but this then requires reprogramming the ECU.  Anyone have any ideas?

  Other than that everything looks normal except the air temperature sensor is reading a constant 42 deg C when the outside temperature is more like 5 or 6 deg C. Could this be an issue? It does not seem to have caused the ECU to log it as a fault.

    Iv'e been advised to do a re-boot after every thing goes to sleep disconnect battery earth join pos to neg and run voltage down and re-connect  I would like more input to this before trying this out afraid to damage ecu or some module any feedback greatly accepted Regards Mickeybo

  I'm wondering how difficult it would be to make the swap, it sounds like a big deal but both engines run on carbs so there is no ecu's to be messing about with and all the mounts will match up. Does anyone have any advice, anything i should watch out for or that I haven't accounted for? Cheers, Tom

  The "glow plug" light on the dash does not come on now and I have checked them to make sure they are all working. I have been told so many stories from ECU to bad alarm system BUT the keyfob opens and locks the car as per usual and like I said it does turn over but does not fire up!!!   It has lost power but still starts and drives. It feels like the turbo is not working but there is no smoke or noise. I have had the ecu read for fault codes and it came up with... Glow plug... Crankshaft sensor... Air mas meter. I have changed the crankshaft sensor, but no change. I does not have an Air mas meter, I checked the engine and checked with vauxhall.

  The engine light flashes, the engine starts, runs for a few seconds, then cuts out. I did the self diagnostic thing and the ECU gave me error codes 141 & 143 (14 long and 1/3 short flashes).... I can't find anywhere that lists what these codes are. Following other advise, I've cleaned the fuses and relays, checked the air filter and made sure all the fluids are topped up.

  I've lived with the problem so far and it doesn't affect the car in any other way, but I wonder if someone knows what causes it? Maybe the idle control valve? Or a glitch in the ECU program? Thanks for any suggestions.

  IF i was to coast i will leave the car in gear and simply keep the clutch pedal pressed to the floor. In cars over 15 years or so before the ECU and fuel management came into effect you can save fuel if you press the clutch down and take your foot off the accelerator pedal when going downhill for example. In effect the car will be going at the same speed while the engine is idling therefore saving fuel.

  16v model Recently aquired this car and it 'hunts' quite badly whilst warming up but seems to tickover ok when warm.My initial thought was that the CO needed adjusting but I've been told that it's all controlled by the ECU and it was suggested that the EGR valve might need cleaning. The battery (I think) needs replacing could that be a factor? Can anyone tell me where the EGR valve is and how do I clean it? If I got it nice and hot before taking it in for an mot would it give a passable reading?

  Might have an injector out, but as i like tinkering with cars and buy and sell a few i need a code reader anyway, just one that will also read the ecu on my 02 tdci 130 mondeo. Dont really want to spend any more than £100 and im not familiar with the OBD, OBDII stuff. What does that mean? Any advice? cheers {moves from classifieds to Technical Matters}

  I've done the same on an older ABS engine - (6') - and that worked really well. Any thoughts? Does this car have a ECU "timing mode" perhaps? Nothing about that in Haynes or Bentleys'. Cheers all, James

  It was an ex company car with 85k on the clock. I had it serviced recently and the dealer did the warranty recall on the ECU software. The car was fine for a week then all the warning lights came on and I stopped the car and had it recovered to a dealer, who told me there were 66 faults showing. They checked the major faults and nothing was wrong and then re-set the faults and the car seems fine.

  Don't need to worry about my old MB, it doesn't seem to bother at all when the battery is disconnected...which with it's previous ECU/wiring loom problems was quite a few times..;) But i hear that some cars do have problems if battery power is lost, and more problems if you mess up connecting a new battery, yes even if connected correctly.

  Is there a seperate relay somewhere? I can hear a click from under the dash, and apon digging can only see a large ecu thingy which must house the relay. Can any of you VAG experts help me out. Regards, Norman.

  theres no spark coming from the coils. it just turns over. i got the crank sensor changed thinking it was that but still not sparking. i also changed the ignition module..still no spark. im not to sure weather it may be the ecu. everything on the dash is coming on and off as normal including the c o d e light. my mate who has dealt in cars for over 30years seems to think that it is a electrical fault somewere but i dont know..has anybody got any asnwers please...thanks.
