Golf tdi 2009 1.6 - Injector problem 12 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I had engine management light come on with loss of power whilst driving after approx 150 miles. Breakdown advised no2 injector faulty. My car has been with a garage then diesel specialist for 3 weeks now has had all four injectors replaced, egr valve checked, fuel pump checked, new fuel filter (just in case), pressure valve replaced on rail. It is running but 'lumpy' in idle. -
Land Rover Discovery 2 - Tyre advice etc. 19 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Hello, 1. can anyone advise on standard equipment or good aftermarket tyres for Disco 2 Diesel auto on a "Y" plate? 255/55 R18 2 The fuel pressure regulator is leaking badly, on the road the engine surges under acceleration, is this a symptom or is it the turbo, it just runs out of steam at 70 mph. -
Peugeot 207 - New car advice 12 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hey all! Just joined up to hopefully get some sound advice on buying myself a new car. Im looking for a diesel hatchback which is very economical, not snail slow and hopefully reliable. Ive whittled it down to 3 but each seem to have their own drawbacks. Vauxhall Corsa (D model) 1.3cdti. - Look good but heard they quite prone to turbo failiure Clio 1.5Dci (86) - again looks good but ive heard that the fuel pump can go and leak metal shards into the fuel system totally wrecking it. -
Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - (01-07) 2.2TD - Engine not revving above 2,000rpm 1 Oct 2011 (Forum)
To rectify this the ignition needs switching off and on again and the fault goes away. I have had the car into the dealer who changed the fuel filter with no curing of the problem, they said that it could be the fuel pump which would be 2 grand to change (the car is no longer under warranty). Any ideas? {The 3 separate requests to include year & engine details in the subject header must have been playing hide & seek when you composed your question. -
306 S16 Idle Problem 21 Jan 2006 (Forum)
basically when you come off the gas she either die's or idels roughly....... I have checked the following: Air Filter Vacum Hoses Replaced the fuel filter fuel feed okay The car drives fine and there is no stuttering whilst driving, but just plays up on idle. She will start with the accelerator pressed.......I'm new the petrol world......more of a diesel guy...one thing I'm not too sure about.. -
95 Mondeo TD Starting Probs 12 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My 95 Mondeo TD recently had problems with an air leak in the fuel system which meant it had starting problems and therefore the starter motor and battery took a hammering, this is now fixed thanks to suggestions from this forum :-) thanks (fuel primer diaphram leak) and has been working fine for 2 wks. -
Skoda - Skoda - VW's problem child 17 Jan 2008 (Forum)
After humming and hawing and sitting on the fence for 10 years, they have decided to enter the Indian market however, they have a problem...Skoda! Summarising, Skoda came in over five years ago with the Octavia 19 TDi . It's robustness and fuel economy made it a winner. They experimented with 1.8 turbo's and petrols as well as the L&K but the way ot an Indian motorists wallet is through fuel economy - they would buy a diesel Rolls if given the opportunity! -
Focus C-MAX TDCI CVT? 19 May 2004 (Forum)
One of the variants listed is the "1.6 16V Duratorq TDCi, Durashift CVT" -- see http://www.fordconnection.com//FordEuropeMultimedia/GBR_EN/002/cmax_specs.html A diesel with a CVT sounds to me like a very nice idea -- diesel economy, and a smooth automatic, without much of a dent on performance. Comparing the "Fuel performance and emissions" figures of the automatic against data for the the manual, it looks resonably efficient: * Fuel consumption up 16% (5.7 l/100km v 4.9) * Top speed barely changed (112mph v 115) * 0-62mph barely changed (11.6 sec v 11.3) * 31-62 mph much better (7.9sec v 12.1) -- probably because the manual is done in 4th gear, rather than starting in third * Emissions up 17%, from (129gm/km to 151) That all suggests that the CVT should be little more expensive to run than the manual, and offer better real-world performance, while still being much more economical than a petrol automatic However, none of the reviews I have read suggest than any of the journalists had driven one of these. -
Fiesta 1.8D H Reg Starting Problems 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The starter motor still sounds strong (although it isn't happy at all this starting lark!) I took it to our local garage and they couldn't find a problem. They changed the fuel filter anyway and checked for air leaks in the fuel pipes by replacing them with clear pipes, but found nothing. They suggested I take it to a diesel specialist (who I rang and they said "it could be a number of things" and "we don't have any bookings available for two weeks") Not exactly helpful. -
Nissan Primera P11 2.0 TD SX - Nissan Primera P11 2.0 TD Fuel Pump Relay and Fuse 1 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I also cannot locate the fuel pump relay. I have the service manuals and it describes RHD models having it under the drivers dash beside the eccs relay (although mine is a diesel and the manuals seem so to focuse on petrol versions a lot more). -
VW Passat 1997 TDi 110bhp - VW TDi revs on hot start and no power 11 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Back to garage on diagnostics. Solenoid valve on fuel pump showed issue so took it to a diesel fuel injection specialist. On diagnostics again, fuel solenoid came up, he put in a new air mass meter and swapped the solenoid with another one (not new) faults cleared in ecu. -
VW Passat/ Skoda Superb - VW 1.6 and 2.0 TDI Reliability? 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Passat TDI Engines city driving need about 7 L/100 or max 8 L/100. Here Petrol is 20% more expensive then Diesel. Our Citroen C3 1.4 HDI have 37000 km on the clock, and i bought it with 19000 km (2 years ago). Most of the time we drove in City (short runs), and until now no problems at all.. Fuel Consumption (City: 6.5-7 l/100, lowest highway about 5-5.5 L/100) Im saying this to describe my frist impressions with diesel engines.Until this i never bought a diesel, becouse i worried about reliability specialy for short runs So one of the reason i consider Passat or Superb are their Fuel Consumption (beside they are really comofrotable and tons of nice equipment). -
Replacing my old ST-2 3 May 2020 (Forum)
Hi, so I was going to replace my old 09 ST-2 this summer but with current events it might be next year now, however I have been looking at various cars and have narrowed it down to. Audi A4-quattro 2.0l or possibly the V6 Diesel Jag XE 2.0 AWD BMW 3 series X Drive 330i or the equivalent Diesel Ideally the car will have equal to or better fuel economy than the ST and be able to carry 2 adults and a child in a car seat in the back for occasional short trips. -
Honda Accord 2.2i-CTDi Oil confusion 16 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Comma even suggests that the correct oil is a 5w-30 semi-synthetic despite Honda's statement in the handbook. I've looked carefully at all the info on this forum and found that B1 is a 'Fuel Economy Diesel' oil and B3 is for 'High Performance and/or extended drain' requirements. Also, I can't find any oil spec. from other manufacturers that combines fully synthetic 0w-30 with B1. I'd be very grateful for comments. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 07-10-2017 Part 1 3 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I did have each serviced by BMW at the correct service intervals which might have had something to do with it. Oh, and both diesels ran on 'supermarket' fuel the whole time. -

Peugot 306 diesel - Bad starting 8 Apr 2012 (Forum)

Mercedes Benz - Decided to hang on to old car 7 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I had decided to change my old 'C' class Mercedes that has given great service for 4 years for a used 'E' class diesel but with the current promise of road tax hikes and fuel prices going through the roof I have changed my mind. My C class is reg in 2000 so keeping it will deny Gordon a few hundred £ s and I am no longer sure that diesel is making much of a saving. -
Vectra 2.2TDi 16v Auto MPG ??? 26 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Vectra 2.2TDi LS 16v Auto Diesel Hatchback Have recently purchased this car, it is a 2003 (03) plate and it has covered 34k and has the ECOTEC engine, some advise please..... It seems to me to be drinking the diesel very heavily and I have now filled it up three times since Ive had it and on each occassion it is struggling to make 300 miles before the low fuel light appears. -
official mpg figures and reality 7 May 2005 (Forum)
This could be due to the way I drive, or the conditions I drive in, of course. (And I sort of get the impression that people with Honda Accord diesel engines don't usually get the mileage they expect, but people with VAG diesels do.) The most obvious way of testing this is when a driver who regularly keeps a record of fuel consumption changes cars.
