V70 T5 - Good Price 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
It has done about 70k miles and he wants about £12k for it (says this is what the garaged offered as trade-in). Does this sound a good price? is Volvo servicing very expensive? I understand a cambelt is required at 70k is this likely to be an expensive (c.£500) job? I fancy the space and the pace combined. General v70 build, reliability and ownership advice much appreciated. -
workshop manuals 18 Jan 2003 (Forum)
greetings, ive been trying to get hold of a decent workshop manual (as opposed to a haynes one!)for a volvo v70 without much success when i came across a company in the states selling them on cd rom format which they claim contain all the same info as the manuals available to the main dealers, (one of the benifits of the freedom of infomation act perhaps?) -

Mrs Molloy has asked the raffle's organisers to sell it for her and the couple will keep their reliable 15-year-old Volvo." -
Going electric? 18 Aug 2021 (Forum)
The new commuting miles do open up the argument in favour plus there’s the bonus of a guaranteed parking spot too. We need to retain a long range car for family holidays etc so doing away with the Volvo is probably unrealistic but a big battery Leaf or similar could potentially do the job and it would save me forking out £720 on timing and ancillary belt changes plus a service and it’s due two expensive tyres at the back too. -
Volvo XC90 2008 - 44k engine blown - Mapfre Warranty not paying 14 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Our 2008 XC90 was bought second hand with 22k on the clock in Jan 2015. It had been serviced prior to purchase and has a FSH. I had it serviced again... -
SUV choice: XC60/Kuga/CX-7 12 Nov 2018 (Forum)
The Kuga seems to be difficult to find with heated seats, but they exist, and the XC60 seems hard to find in D5 type spec, whilst still retaining the DRIVe simplicity (FWD, lower tuned higher economy engine etc). I used to work for Ford, and later Volvo, and drove plenty of XC60s and have a good technical service knowledge of them, but I didn't really pay much attention to the drive on the pre-2014 models, and I don't really have any knowledge of foibles/weaknesses. -
first impressions of my new Volvo XC60 D4 Auto 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Like skidpan I will give an update about the vehicle. Only covered 600 miles with no long journeys but the computer says 42.4mpg. My brim to brim tells... -

I changed the pads and discs on the S60 at the last service. After about 1500 miles on the new discs, I started to get an intermittent shake on the steering... -
Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - Good buy or not? 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi everyone I have the chance of a 2006 V70 D5 SE Sport with about 130k on the clock for around £7000 direct from a fleet whose manager I know. I'm thinking... -
Fuel efficiency - when to switch 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My Volvo S80 2.5T 53 reg, which I bought to do 4,000 miles/year (for 7k last April), may soon be doing an additional 17,000 miles/year through a work change I get about 23mpg on my usual short runs, and I guess I might get about 28mpg on the work run. -
Servicing: mileage or time? 26 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I've changed jobs a couple of times in the five years I've had my Volvo S60 D5. For its first two years, it was my company car and was serviced at 12,000 and 24,000 miles. I left that job, bought the car and found myself travelling rather less, to the extent that the car shifted to a routine of annual services, at about 35,000, 44,000 and 55,000. -
Vectra vs Signum 3 May 2007 (Forum)
Is it this very reason that has led to the Signum to be considered a rather odd placed car in the market place? I?d like to try out a 1-2 year old Volvo S60 D (SWMBO likes Volvos too), but this is probably outside of my budget of £13kish plus px ? isn?t it? I have also thought about a TDCi Mondeo, but the 155 bhp versions may, again, be outside of the budget. -
Beware unexplainable tyre pressure loss! 18 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I have been experiencing a steady loss of pressure from two tyres on the venerable Volvo 740 for a couple of years now, nothing too drastic, about 2 or 3 PSI per week. On a couple of occasions, suspecting a puncture, I visited my regular tyre depot and spent several minutes staring in the water bath together with the fitter, to no avail. -
New Tyre Time Again.... 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
It seems like not many months ago I came on here asking for advice about choosing some grippy day-to-day tyres for my Volvo S60. I settled on Goodyear Eagles to replace the Pirelli P6000's I have had both on the Volvo and my previous Mondeo estate. Well, the Goodyears were certainly very grippy - much much better than the P6000's which was what I wanted. -
Executive? airport parking 4 Dec 2005 (Forum)
(this will be the only clue!) For convenience I booked the special executive indoor parking, not that my 20yo Volvo 740 is special or needs to be indoors, but simply that this building is located at the rear of departures, about a minutes walk, and I knew at that time in the morning time would be of the essence, as indeed it was. -
Negotiating for an Accord 22 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Screen price is £18,495, but I've been 'stalking' the car via the internet for six weeks, and it still hasn't sold. My trade-in is a 1992 J Volvo 850 2.5 20v GLT saloon. 65k miles supported by loads of MOT certificates and some service history, but being realistic not worth a great deal. Still runs very nicely, but cam belt has never been changed (!) -

Purely out of interest, have any Backroomers noticed similar oddities, whether Volvo or not? -
S80 aircon and fuel consumption 15 May 2003 (Forum)
Are we paying too high a price for aircon in terms of fuel consumption? I acquired a 1999V Volvo S80 SE(170)automatic in January and have been really pleased with it - fast, comfortable and never missed a beat. Naturally I did not choose it to save on petrol bills and following HJ's advice - and what I have seen in The Back Room - I run it solely on Optimax. -
UK Buses 14 Oct 2023 (Forum)
It has occurred to me that the UK bus and coach market seems pretty narrow in its choice of brand. Most coaches (or at least the chassis) I see are Volvo, the occasional Iveco, Scania and VDL. Invariably European. Why no Asian coaches and buses? Hyundai, Toyota (the Coaster), Hino, Kia, Nissan, Isuzu, Mitsubishi,.. they all make coaches and/or buses. -
JLR - Heated windscreens 14 Feb 2022 (Forum)
I suspect Ford acquired the patent when they owned LR , That's why the first mainstream manufacturers to offer them were Ford; LR and Volvo who they also owned. Had them on company Mondeos from V reg only used occasionally as I garage my car.
