  I have a 2001 Astra automatic 1.6 8 valve. At 60 mph on a light throttle the tachometer shows 2,500 rpm. Could someone confirm that this fits in with lock up engaging in 4th gear. I'm really just trying to satisfy myself that the gearbox is operating OK.

  I have a 10 year old Smart Forfour that has done 63000 miles. When in automatic mode, in 6th gear, travelling at around 60mph, it regularly tries to change down to 5th, hesitates, but then continues in 6th.  This is particularly bad in wet weather, when travelling at a similar speed, the automatic and unexpected changing down at speed is quite fierce.

  My partner currently drives a 56 plate Toyota Aygo that we have had for some time now. She has recently decided that she wants an automatic as she finds driving manuals quite stressful, and has decided automatic is the best way to go.
