  • Tyre life 26 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I had two new front tyres on my 08 Volvo V70 and the tracking done on 21st/ /12 /18. I later back checked and found I had two front tyres and tracking done 19/ 02 /18 with 15k or so done with a lot of motorway miles included. Granted tracking is a lottery with all the pot holes but am I justified in having a moan about 15k in ten or so months?
  • any - Best car you ever drove. 16 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Last year due to a van re designing our Volvo we were loaned...don't ask me why.... a brand new Mecedes S class 3.2 diesel. It has comfort, enough power for anybody, a boot you could get a small sofa in and everything seemed excellent quality.
  • Used car for elderly father 3 Jul 2016 (Forum)
My father's volvo s40 is getting tired so I am looking for a shopping car for him.   Petrol, Auto, 3 door, occasional motorway drive of 50 miles. I was thinking about a mk 4 VW Polo 2005 with 50k miles for about £2000 or a Fiesta.
  • Any - Comfort and wheelbase 20 May 2015 (Forum)
Posts were not really clear. My parking is mediocre so I really don't want anything larger than medium size, e.g volvo S40, although prefer supermini size such as Honda Jazz. Is there a relationship between car length and ride ?  I would appreciate any information understandable by someone with limited knowledge.
  • <£500, reliable, economic, nothing else matters. 26 May 2012 (Forum)
Age/looks are not an issue - I have no pride!  ;-) I am tending toward something like a Volvo 240?  Forgot to say I want an Estate?! Any thoughts appreciated.
  • Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin 1834cc - parts - cross make compatibility 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hard to find, but have noticed that   Mitsubishi sold a different model, the Carisma  ( as much Charisma as a piece of wet cardboard )  with exactly the same engine, 1834cc GDi ,  can I assume this part will be the same and fit the Shogun  ?   Also, Volvo sold the same engine in their V40 - same question ?     My local main dealers are useless , so don't go there     thanks for any constructive responses.
  • Koni FSD dampers 12 Jul 2011 (Forum)
The Koni UK website doesn't list them, but I know they exist. Google turned up some UK companies selling them but only for Volvo and Saab applications. This is a long shot but I was wondering if anyone knew of a supplier in the UK or on the continent. Suppliers in the USA are backordered and even if they had them in stock, due to the weight, postage from the US and import duty etc would price them out of my budget.
  • Skoda Superb - Skoda breaks into another rarefied market 20 May 2011 (Forum)
They were latest-generation Skoda Superbs:  the hea*** had been coachworked (and looked rather striking, I must say). Certainly made a change from the usual M-B / Volvo / Granada fare.  All that remains is for Skoda to break into the ministerial and royal duty sector   :)
  • VW Passat B7 - New Passat 2.0 Tdi SE 'Bluemotion' 12 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Well 1200 miles ito a new B7 VW Passat  2.0Tdi SE I am astounded to find that I am acheiving an actual 61.4 mpg (based on fill up). For a fairly fast and quiet family car I am truly astounded. My old Volvo V50 2.0D with 42,000 miles struggled to reach 44 mpg with the same driving style. Just hope it lasts the pace.
  • iO CONNECT - anybody had experience? 9 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi I'd like to connect my Sony MP3 player into the HU-803 head unit in my 2001 Volvo S60 and have seen this iO CONNECT device (http://tinyurl.com/delspd) Has anybody heard one of these working? It's a Class D amplifier and I did think that due to the size of the amplifier there was some difficulty achieving good audio quality, but I'm sure somewhere who knows more than me can qualify that?
  • Vauxhall Astra 1.7DTi 22 Jul 2007 (Forum)
As most of you would know here, I'm thinking of replacing my Volvo S40. I just want to get your opinions/comments on 1.7DTi engine in Astras. A friend of mine has told me you've to remove the engine mounts before you could change the drive belt on it and he's told me they're hated by the mechanics.
  • middle lane hogs - with a difference... 18 Jul 2007 (Forum)
heading north on the M74 on Saturday in very light traffic. I'm in lane 1 doing 70 (honest....) up ahead are two old Volvo estates (one white, one green) in lane 2 doing 65 ish. Just as I'm about to head over to lane 3 to overtake, they both indicate left and move to lane 1, so I overtake in lane 2. Once I'm past and in lane 1 they both move back into lane 2 again - odd or what???
  • where to buy a reconditioned gearbox? 25 May 2007 (Forum)
as above, could someone advise some trustworthy companies to source a gearbox from for a 1999 volvo s40. it's a 2litre 16v petrol with the renault m5p box fitted. it has been jumping out of 5th gear regularly and after alot of time trying to adjust the linkage and replacing bushes. etc. ive concluded it must be an internal box problem which isn't unheard of with this box.

Today I am test driving a Volvo V70 2.4 DE 2005 / 55 with 15,000 miles at £19,950 and a Mondeo Ghia X 2.2 TDCi 2006 / 06 with 9,000 miles at £15,990. The total cost of ownership over 3 years and 36,000 miles is £553 per month for the V70 or £480 per month for the Mondeo.
  • Golf MkV headlights 23 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My Golf was imported from abroad and has the headlights/rear lights permanetly on when the ignition is on (as per Volvos). What I would like to do is to set them so that they automatically come on when darkness falls, iaw the auto light switch setting. My book suggests this can be done via the MFA computer, but the VW agent says this is not an option on my model and when asked whether he could do it, the answer was not yes, but probably with difficulty.
  • Strange growth in washer bottle 21 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Windscreen washers in my "new" (1995) Volvo 940 packed up. On investigation I found what seemed to be a sort of silicone gasket between the filler tube and the reservoir. I cleaned it. It's a filter! Covered on both sides with a layer of black slimy gunge.
  • There should be a law against it! 7 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Haven't been for 20+ years and took my sons for the first time. It was a brillant evenings entertainment. The bangers consisted of Mk2 Granadas, Jags, Volvo 240/760's and a Rover P4. I've always had a soft spot for the P4 and it was a sad end for this one - although the old girl lasted longer than most in the Destruction Derby. There should be a law against it!
  • Ambleside by pass? 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Thinking of taking my carvan {23 foot, plus 16 foot Volvo} through Ambleside in the Lakes on Easter Monday, en route from Coniston to Keswick. Anyone had experience of the traffic {North bound} on an Easter Monday thro' Ambleside ? Don't fancy taking the Caravan over the kirkstone Pass, the M6 is a long way around and via Sellafield even worse !
  • 4 wheels vs. 2 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
A recent thread threatened to become a 4 v 2 argument following an overtaking incident approaching a traffic light. From my viewpoint a common irritation from bikes (not bikers) is that (like Volvos) their headlights - sometimes in pairs - are on at all hours, and they are mounted at a height which points straight into a car's outside mirror. This problem is made worse if the beam is on full or misaligned, and if the rider chooses to ride towards the middle of the road, as many apparently suggest doing for safety reasons.
  • fake parts 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
i was looking on a volvo owners forum recently and the subject of fake parts was being discussed, [a well known parts supplier] were mentioned as having been exposed recently as selling parts which they claimed were manufactured by the oe suppliers but in fact were from very dubious sources, does any one know if this is in fact true or just another urban myth?
