Rear Leg Room 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I currently have a Volvo V70 S-reg estate. However, I have one son over six feet tall and another one catching him up and they are starting to want more leg room than the car provides, especially since my husband and I are tall too. -
Tyres 12 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Has anyone had trouble with Avon ZZ3? Despite always maintaining the pressures within recommended limits my 215/55 ZR16 (on a volvo S80 for 12000 miles) are badly worn on the inner and outer edges of both front wheels. The centre 50% of tread is like new and a straight edge across the tread reveals a hollow centre. Has anyone managed to get good tyre life on the S80 from other makes of tyre? -
Anyone ever bought an ex police car? 25 Feb 2006 (Forum)
My brother is close to buying an ex police Volvo v70 T5 estate. He is after a strong powerful estate and the T5 would fit the bill. Are ex police cars as well maintained -and driven as sellers say? I'm talking about long distance motorway patrol vehicles- not the bashed up Peugeot 306 local car. -
Insurance cost 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
This means that for this year, my insurance will cost £38 I might be an old codger driving a (nice) old Volvo with a full no claims bonus, but if you're a cherry, the PO is more than willing to pick you. -
Recommended 7 seater auto estate 17 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Objective is for the car to last the 2 - 3 years doing about 10 - 15k miles pa. My suggested list is a people carrier eg Galaxy or Mercedes E class or Volvo 940/960. Are there any other suggestions in this price range? Steve -
A strange problem (I think!)....... 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I was putting a bike rack on the back of my Volvo S80 this morning and when I was underneath strapping the two bottom straps onto the car I noticed that there was large drops of moisture on the bottom of the car (exhaust for one). When I got some on my fingers it was green, not oil though water based, I washed the car yesterday and it was a damp and misty start to the day this morning but that's about it, does anyone have any ideas what it could be? -
Thanks 2 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Just like to say thanks to the driver of the gold coloured car(Volvo S80 ?) who very nearly managed to take out both my family and the mobile home behind me on a rather busy uphill stretch of the A303 this afternoon in Wiltshire. Not only did you scare the living daylights out of us with your aggressive and impatient driving but had you succeeded in your manouver, you would have gained all of a cars length until the next dual carriageway stretch which was some way ahead. -
Best design feature 23 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Wow that's really good, why can't all cars have that...?' I nominate the heated front screen as seen on upscale Fords. Why they don't fit these to Volvos (Ford owned of course) - it must get frosty in Sweden? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive? -
Festive wishes 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Well it's certainly been a very mixed year for all of us here at Volvo Towers but Christmas is nigh once again and I'd just like to say best wishes to HJ, the mods. and of course to all of you - the people who make this site what it is. We might not agree with eachother all the time but I'm sure we all wish everyone else here well. -
Unusually High Co at Idle 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Had an MOT on my ‘last of the production’ Volvo 240 SE Estate Passed no problem but I noticed that the Co at idle has risen from its normal 0.1% or so, on previous MOT’s to 0.39%, still a pass but a lot higher. High speed measurements were 0.1 and only 6PPM Lambda 1.00 Spot on. -
Thoughts on the Audi A4 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My car is up for change and after two problem free Volvos I fancy a change and was thinking of an Audi A4 cab. The reviews wax lyrical, but the customer reviews and forums suggest a lot of problems (particularly with A4 coils and engine management systems). -
Bad Car Seats 3 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I have ankylosing spondolitis - a degenerative back problem - and I find lots of cars really bad to drive, some after as little as 20 mins. I find BMWs particularly bad, some Audis are OK but not the ones with "sports" seats, Volvos were fine up to the old 850 but since then I find them agony. -
Compact auto for under 2k 4 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy an automatic medium sized car for under 2 grand as a family runaround/2nd car. There doesn't seem to be much about apart from Volvo 440s which are relatively plentiful eg 94M 1.8 SE with FVSH and 54k. Is this a good choice (I've read some reports about poor reliability)? Also is there anything else I should consider? Of primary inportance are safety and reliability, I'm not really concerned with image or performance on this car Thanks -
To chip or not to chip 8 Oct 2002 (Forum)
If you have chipped, have you told your insurance, if Yes, how much extra are they charging you? If no, naughty naughty. Anyone got, or know of, a chipped Volvo 3.0 24V {960 / V90 }204 BHP - what is the BHP after chipping? Paul -
second car insurance 30 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Been a bit rash and bought an old volvo estate to assist with doing up the house. Trouble is that it seems I have to start insuring it as if I have zero no claims, which puts the premium at about the price of the car! I have max no claims on my other car and will be the only driver on both, so only one can be driven at a time. -
aluminium body panels 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Audi now make aluminium bodied cars. How come Rover were such innovators then? Why were more cars not made from aluminum? Volvo tailgates are aluminiun on their 940 estates -why is that? Alex -
Shell Optimax 4 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Acceleration is certainly better even though economy isn't because I've been using the extra acceleration. But anyone with a German high performance car or a turbocharged SAAB or Volvo should have been seeing some serious improvements both to performance and fuel economy. Have you? HJ -
Stopping Engine Oil leaks 11 Oct 2001 (Forum)
My 1985 Volvo 240 estate (auto) leaves a small deposit of engine oil on the drive. This drip comes from the torque convertor area and I believe that the rear crankshaft oil-seal is the culprit. Well, taking out the auto box and replacing the oil-seal is the 'right thing to do', but has anyone knowledge or experience of products like Wynn's Engine Stop Leak and such like. -
French Halogen lamps 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
they almost burn the paint of the car in front if you get too close. They get so hot that they melted the glue on my Montego's indicator lenses. Now put them in my Volvo 940 - no problems. Both cars passed the MoT with these lamps fitted ? but are they legal in this country? -
"Old Bangers" 10 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I only drive 6 miles to and from work, and I reckon the best thing to do is to buy an old ( uncatalysed ) car for this purpose, question is - which one ?? I think Volvo 340s seem to last longer than any other car of this age, have you readers any reccomendations ? I only want to spend £500-1000 quid Cheers Mick
