Dealer Liability over Holed Air con Condenser - where do I stand? 11 Jan 2013 (Ask HJ)
I just bought a 3-year-old Renault Modus diesel QS5 with 16,800 miles for £7995, which the independent dealer claimed was in perfect condition. The fuel... -
Accidental damage by breakdown services 10 Apr 2012 (Ask HJ)
My brand new, two week old car was suffering from electrics problems - e.g. alarm going off for no reason, air con not working etc - which the dealer quickly... -
Nissan X-Trail (2007 - ) - J D power 2009 xtrail 14 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Comments such as "owners slammed the styling" now excuse me, but who buys a car that they find ugly? Must be some strange people about? It goes on air-con, audio, nav systems, i have had no problems, the air con is weak, but i read some were that some systems have smaller compressors to better economy? You should always back up the sat nav DVD disc, i always run the copy, and keep the original at home. -
Flattyre gets you nowhere 25 Apr 2009 (Ask HJ)
I have a BMW 320d Tourer with runflat tyres. Has any reputable motoring magazine done a pros and cons article on these tyres. I would like to know please.... -
MG 6 - Honda Civic - Honda Civic vs MG 6 - better value used car? 31 Oct 2017 (Forum)
7) Considered a good driver's car, with a fine balance of handling and ride comfort. 8) Rare / uncommon / not run of the mill car Cons:- 1) The manufacturer has stopped seeling the car in UK. Potential issue with availability of parts. Car is still sold in other markets. Hence can parts still be sourced? -
Recommendations - used mini MPV, wheelchair etc. 14 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Some storage, whether under the boot floor or otherwise would be good I also really want a heated front windscreen in this next car, as I'm fed up of waiting 5-10 minutes for the inside to defrost! Air con would be great, though not as important. Lastly, I'd like something that is reasonably low emission - with the low tax band to match! - and economical to run. I realise that I've asked a lot, but a car that gets most of them right would be great. -
Need a new family estate/4x4 - what should I buy? 20 Jul 2013 (Ask HJ)
I’m having trouble choosing a new car; I need room for a child with enough boot space for lots of luggage. I would like something rugged and sporty, as... -
Nissan Micra K12 - Advice on a Nissan Micra 7 Sep 2010 (Forum)
The dealer replaced an o2 sensor and it seems to be running smoother. It still varies its revs slightly when idle, especially if air con etc is in use. I just want some general advice about whether this may be problems caused by the extremely low milage; now I worry every time I drive it as to whether it is going to break down again. -
Mazda MPV (2000 - 2007) - 53 plate Mazda MPV - keep or replace? 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I'm not a frustrated rally driver with a large family and a tight budget :) When it comes to other factors in my original choice of car, the sliding rear doors and versatility offered by having 5 removeable seats were at the top of the list and I also liked the combination of electric sunroof and separate front/rear air-con but I realise some compromise on such things may be required. I guess my budget would be between £10-£12k on top of what I could get for my current car and I'd be intending to buy something 6 months to a year old. -
Another vague "what car should I buy" post! 5 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I currently drive a Porsche 944, but it's a bit aged (1986, odd bits are temperamental) and requires quite a lot of maintenance, plus it doesn't have air con and the back seats are very small. I do however love the way it looks. So, ideally, I'd like something that looks similar-ish (a bit unusual, a bit sexy), has aircon, ideally (but not essentially) has four practical seats, is newer / less maintenance hungry than my current car and costs less than say £6,000 (secondhand). -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 01 2.0 Strange non starting fault 2 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I have a peugeot 406 2.0 HDi RHZ 2001 with air con. A few months ago a valve snapped and mashed the engine up quite badly. Since then I have replaced the engine with another RHZ and put new belts on. Since the new engine has been in I have had more issues. -
Car Interior Design 2 Apr 2009 (Forum)
On some cars the dashboards are an enormous hunk of plastic (usually black too, which absorbs loads of sun and fries you or makes your air con work harder / longer / more often). Takes up space too. Current VW beetle for example. Its seems to be about a foot and a half from the windscreen to the front lip of the dash. -
What would you buy? 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
So assuming that I have a budget of £15,000, what would you buy bearing in mind the following aspects: - I drive 9,000 miles each year in mostly suburban Manchester; I would prefer an automatic; I need four doors and seat four people in comfort; I demand air-con, electric and heated mirrors, electric windows and remote central locking. I would like Bluetooth or equivalent built in; Comfortable ride and excellent driving position, with easy access; All these are easy. -
Porsche Boxster - under 10k, 106k miles 27 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Spoke to the chap who took me for a drive in it, and garnered the folling info: * Full Porsche SH (I verified) with approx 10k spent on the car in 10 years (!) * Price was 10250 but he said he'd take 9800 * Tyres are all down to about 2-3mm * No air-con * Seats seemed to be part-leather * Condition in & out seemed to be very good, a few very minor scuffs on alloys only Two things concerned me though - 1 - I put the roof up and down a few times with no probs but 1 time I stopped half way & when I resumed, a bit of trim popped out (which he clipped back in, explaining that if you stopped the roof mechanism halfway through, it would pop out) 2 - 1 dash light didn't go out - for the rear spoiler, although web research shows that it may be possible to switch off using a switch by driver's left knee that activates the spoiler Obviously I'm masively tempted with this, as I can sell my golf gti, and just add about 2-3k so the question is, with that many miles on, if it has been properly serviced it's whole life, is there a reasonable chance of it being good for another 30k miles in the next 2 years & stil be worth something at the end? -
Hyundai and Kia 30 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The handling's also pretty good, and the clutch is feather-light, gearchange is effortless. The interior isn't cheap, and toys like air-con come as standard. Needless to say she's put her deposit down and we're picking up a 56-reg pre-registered one on Thursday at a very competitive price. The question is simple - why won't more people venture down to their local Kia dealer? -
Fiat Stilos - The quickest review ever 8 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The kit on them puts Fords and Vauxhalls to shame. I think it's only the one up from base spec and has; Adjustable rear seats, computer, air con, reverse parking sensors, central locking, alarm, auto lights, traction control, ABS and more to boot. All on a 1.6! Car seemed solid enough and was quite cool in the gadget department. Whenever a door was open, instead of a boring light to warn you (yawn!) -
Audi 80 Cabriolet 2.6e - A few problems! 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Again, all the fuses are intact. 4)The steering wheel is not quite straight when going straight ahead - about 5 degrees off. Is this just a simple wheel alignment? 5) Finally the when you press the Air Con button the compressor pulley doesn't begin to turn as it should - it is too cold to feel if it's working. Is there a cut out on the system for low temperatures to prevent freezing up? This may be the problem... -
BMW 318 E46 Coolant System Troubles 18 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The car has been regularly maintained but I have been disappointed by the minor (windscreen wiper relay, heater relay, air con sensor) and major (cooling system failures) problems I have had with it and also the fact that it is quite an oil burner (as all the BMW garages I've been to have told me its designed to do). Its not really what I expected from a BMW. -
Mk4 Golf - not that good? 10 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I know two people who have Mk4 Golfs, a 1.8 GTi and a 1.9TDi (the 110bhp) and they've both had problems for stupid quality issues that really shouldn't crop up on a 17 grand plus car. Electric windows falling out of their mountings, air con leaks, problems with hi-fi equipment, electrical gremlins and so on, nothing serious, but I got so used to seeing a courtesy car outside one friends house I wondered if she shouldn't have just bought a 1.0 Polo to start with..... -
