  The new Mazda 3 Skyactiv, now on sale in the UK, has been shortlisted as one of the seven contenders for the 2014 European Car of the Year. The other six cars nominated from 30 potential candidates are the BMW i3, Citroen C4 Picasso, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Peugeot 308, Skoda Octavia and Tesla Model S. Freshly introduced in Europe starting in October, the new Mazda3 was the only Japanese model among the final seven and only one of two non-European cars.
