  • GPS Antenna location - BMW 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I am currently experiencing problems with a new speed camera detector (Micro Road Pilot) unit and would welcome any advice on the best GPS antenna location on a 2002 E46 320d SE, and would also appreciate any info regarding whether this model is fittied with a UV windscreen that could seriously impede the signal to the antenna. I have been in touch with the manufacturer`s technical team today and they are trying to blame the problem on the windscreen fitted to my car and refuse to accept any responsibility for the mal functioning of their unit, which I actually paid almost £100 to be hard wired by their distributor`s agent.

  • Mis-matched xenon headlamps - Citroen C5 10 May 2005 (Forum)
Additionally the new unit doesn't appear, at a glance, to be quite as bright as the original o/s lamp. Having had a look at the labelling on the two units, they do seem to more or less match, so not sure what to do about this...is it legal to have different coloured headlamps?!? Cheers ---- PhiL
  • Norde Lorries - query answered 20 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I can't remember which thread but someone mentioned an old make of lorry called Norde, and how they'd seen one travelling at high speed on the M1 in the early 60's. I was leafing through a magazine called (I think) Heritage Commercials at the newsagents. On the last page was an article about Norde. They built an articulted outfit in the late 50's that was capable of in excess of 70 mph.

And does anyone have any experience/comments on Yokohama S306's, or etyres mobile tyre fitting service ?
  • New Panda? It'll only cost you 8 seconds 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Surprised no-one's already posted this. WhatCar? have just released their latest round of security testing. In this year?s annual What Car? Security Supertest, 16 of the 20 new cars on test were broken into within two minutes. The Fiat Panda?s security was the easiest to overcome and resisted for just eight seconds. Just four cars passed the break-in tests ?
  • Honda Accord 1988 - Engine Idle Surging 8 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I own a 1988 Honda Accord, which has just survived a snapped cambelt. (I might add that it was last changed within it?s alloted mileage limit of 72k, so I was a little surprised it failed prematurely) The car has always had a ?surging? problem during it?s warmup phase, during which time the revs have gone up and down between 1200-2000, but since the cambelt change, it is now happening during normal hot running.
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) XVII 15 Jun 2004 (Forum)
We\'re told the car is travelling at 35. But that\'s 35 in (at least) a 40mph. Is that message on purpose or just accidental? There is another suggestion - I\'m the most boring person on the universe to have picked up on it - not least to post a thread on it at 25 to midnight!!
  • Big cars - why would you need one? 3 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Get a medium-sized estate - and more practical anyway. Big family? Need an MPV. Obese? The seats are pretty much the same size - and the A8's are short on thigh support. So it's an ego trip then.
  • Mid-90's Merc E-class coupe? 20 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I'm looking to spend about £8-9k. I don't want something run-of-the-mill, I'd prefer something a bit special. My eye was recently caught by a Merc E320...
  • shaky road wheel - Pug 306 11 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My friend seems to think this is a wheel bearing problem but I have been told that a wheel bearing makes noise when it\'s faulty. So if it\'s not that does anybody know what else it could be?
  • Removal of Alternator - Astra 1.7TD 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I\'ve been quoted by a VX dealer for \'best case an hour, worst case an hour and a half\' but that\'s a bit vague for me and seems a long time. I\'ve been told by someone local that it\'s possible to have an alternator off and back on again within 20 mins. Are the VX dealer trying to rip me off (aside from their £60/hour labour rate) or do you think that an hour to an hour and a half is fair enough?
  • Possible dead cylinder head gasket? 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
What would be involved in changing the gasket and how much should it cost? Is it going to fail expensively at any time soon? What\'s causing the bubbling noise? Has anyone got any other advice? Many thanks, Nick
  • Renault Radio 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The Laguna is fitted with a Radio contol thing, on the steering column, which means you never have to take your hands of the steering wheel to control it (I\'m sure you get the picture) and also the actual cd player doesn\'t have a display, it\'s on the top of the dash (like on vectra\'s).....Would stereos bought today be compatiable with these as I\'d like to keep these features. 2. reading through these forums, what does SWMBO mean???? • About Time Too! 8 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The Government is to analyse thousands of crashes involving heavy lorries to discover why they are involved in so many crashes on Britain?s motorway network.? Why bother? Any motorway user can tell the Government that they are driven suicidally close to the vehicle in front." Given the (on average) more serious consequences when lorries are involved this can't come soon enough - let's hope no "political correctness" gets in the way of a thorough look at the role of foreign trucks and drivers!

  • 95M Fiesta si 1.4 60k any good? 27 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Can you good lads and lasses tell me please General reaction to this offer Any specifics to be wary of What is mpg like - pretty important as he and family live in the sticks and it's to do about 200 a week to and from work does that little 'i' in the title mean nasty things like high insurance, big expensive tyres, exhausts etc. Any sort of comment about it would be greatly appreciated. Best regards Colin S
  • Converting an automatic to manual ? 22 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I know that current autos may prove problematic as all the electronics may be linked. I was thinking more of late 80's or early 90's cars, where the electronics, if at all, were fairly "basic". Would a conversion prove to be financially unfeasible ? Would you have to notify DVLA and pass a MOT type test etc? Chad.R P.S.
  • M1 J19 Stupid Lane Markings 29 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone explain the logic of the changes to the s/b M1 at Junction 19. The relatively small amount of traffic going to the A14 or n/b M6 now gets an exclusive lane for the last half mile to the junction, while the 95% going on south is forced into two then three narrow ones before the s/b M6 itself filters in.
