    A fuel switch-over recall problem was confined to 200 S80 CNG models in Germany and none are believed to have reached the UK. Volvo's new lightweight D5 common rail diesel replaces the old Audi unit in V70s and S80s and is the first diesel engine available in the S60. This lightweight alloy block unit offers 163bhp and 251 lb ft (340Nm torque) from 1,750rpm.

Manufacturer 'goodwill' towards the repair depends on age, mileage and service history. So far, on the basis of the 60 - 70 cases reported to HJUK, goodwill seems to be most forthcoming from Audi and Volvo.

  • 'New' SAAB 9-5 from October 5 Jul 2001 (News)
    It will feature an early appearance of General Motors new 3.0 litre 176bhp common rail turbodiesel V6 engine which puts out 258lb ft (350Nm) torque and if its fuel consumption and emissions are low enough will be a serious rival to Ford-Volvo's new D5 (see Volvo news item). SAAB lists 'chassis revisions to enhance driver control', which presumably means less of the severe understeer which was a characteristic of the old model.
