  • A5 Sportback opinions please (and new shape A6) 28 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I have a young family, 2 girls under 5, and a wife who can't pack light. But I do have a roofbox..... I do circa 30,000 miles pa so comfort is important. Any views on the sports suspension that comes on S-Line Audis is most welcome. A previous (2004) Audi was returned as it was just too uncomfortable but I've been told that Audis have softened since then.
  • HiQ Criticise MOT Change Proposals 16 Aug 2011 (Forum)
He added: 'We always call for improvements to the benefits of our business, but in this case, it is important to clarify that we are campaigning on behalf of the consumer, for money saving and safety.’ HiQ is calling for car owners whose cars have failed their MoT to send their local MPs photographic evidence of dangerous parts such as worn brakes and tyres.
  • Windscreen + Glass - Enhanced Driving Visibility 29 Jun 2011 (Forum)
HJ's slot has over the years repeated tips for car body wash+wax and favoured (best?) brand, but little or on the most important bit - the windscreen. Household windowlene and green spray glass cleaner cleared the dirt and film inside and out but didn't last or water-repel. Tried Halfords various 'glass cleaners' and then 'glass treatments'.
  • Mile-munching estate 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I'll want a mid-high range diesel for drivability - nothing underpowered as the mpg is rarely worse for the bigger diesel engines in any case. Reliability is important... that that rules out anything French.  The Hyundai i30cw scores well due to the 5 year unlimited mileage warranty, and although most others can be extended it comes and a price and they do have a km limit of 100-150k - even Kia only covers the Cee'd up to 150k in later years.
  • Vauxhall Omega 2.6 V6 (51) - Vauxhall Omega 2.6 V6 suddenly running rough 3 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Any way, is there any way to check before spending over 60 quid on leads and plugs? In case this is important, when the engine management light goes it flashes 14 times with a final quick fifteenth flash before being continuously lit. Cheers, Chris
  • Ford Fiesta - Small used auto for 5k - Fiesta a bad choice? 23 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The car needs to be of Fiesta / Clio size but not any smaller as I am 6' 3" and dont fancy hopping in and out of a Micra every time I fancy a drive. Budget is 5k max. Im not too bothered by style, reliability is the most important criteria, followed by economy and driving enjoyment. So far a 2006 / 07 used Fiesta 1.6 (this is the conventional auto version as opposed to the 1.4 semi) seems to fit the bill and comes in under budget but I keep reading bad reports about the reliability of the auto box on some Fords, is this model one of those with suspect reliability?
  • Vauxhall Astra H Estate - A recent Astra recall? 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
On returning to my 3-year old Astra Estate at the local supermaket car park, I found a photocopied A4 leaflet stuffed under the wiper headed 'Vauxhall Customer Notice - Important Recall Notice'.  It went on ' We have checked with the Vauxhall database and believe that your vehicle is due a manufacturer recall on a specific maintenance or safety issue.  This recall work will be carried out completely free of charge.
  • Peugeot 306 - Stick or Twist 20 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I could buy another 306 with less mileage. I get paid mileage for the longer journeys, so running costs are important. Would a switch to petrol see me better off? I'd get more petrol car for my money than a diesel car.. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
  • Honda Accord CTDi - buying used family car 10 Apr 2010 (Forum)
i've got around 7 - 8k to spend and i've shortlisted 2/3 cars. want your opinion about them. Reliability and running costs are really important to me. i've shortlisted honda accord 2.2 ctDi Sport (facelift model) and Passat 1.9/2.0 diesel. i've been looking at Qashqai but its out of my budget. would love to know what you experts think of which one i should go for?
  • Isuzu Trooper (1992 to 1998) - 96 3059 ABS G Sensor 27 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Obviously, this takes the ABS off-line when it fails (which is during the driving off self-test, 100m or so from setting off) There are odd mentions of these failing on other imports (yes, I have Googled). Does any listmember have a suggestion as to what I can do? Driving backwards rapidly, then braking sharply seems to clear the fault, which points to something inside the switch, rather than the cabling, as does the fact that the ABS fail light will come typically when the vehicle has moved off the horizontal, sometimes even slightly.
  • Segregated parts - tin sheds - glass palaces 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Before, you obtained parts from within the showroom and were able to chat and maintain a relationship - while looking at new models. Now you are segregated off - to the detriment of continuity. I was thinking of the importance of first contact image - then maintaining relationships. Perhaps though, there are not many customers like me - who just buy parts after the first year from new - and as such, have seemingly been written off as `trade`at the parts counter.
  • Anyone who has done any "Driving Experiences"? 3 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi everyone, first post on the forums despite using the site so I hope no one has me down as a spammer despite my first post being a "request" Just as a start, I do love my cars and drive an imported Honda Integra DC5 (going to do a search in a minute to see if there is any posts on these) :) Anyway, one of the reasons I've been prompted to post is a slight request for anyone who has done any driving experiences that you can buy, such as Ferrari or other supercars, tank driving etc.
  • Toyota Celica (1994 - 2000) - 95 2.0 Auto - holding too high a gear 16 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have a 1995 grey-import Celica GT convertible (Gen6) it has 3SGE engine with 4speed automatic box. The gearbox is holding too high a gear in "normal" mode - reluctant to downshift on hills/underload or when I kick it down, making he car is feeling very sluggish When I switch it into "PWR" mode using the button next to the gear lever, it behaves much more normally - changes down much earlier, responds to throttle much more quickly and gives much more revs (as one would expect), although in some situatons does hold the gear more than would be expected.
  • Mazda MX5 (1989 - 1998) - 1989 1.6 How to remove the alarm/immobiliser? 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi, some words of advice from the experts please. We have a 1989 Mazda MX5 Japanese import which has a Texalarm ATX16 alarm/immobiliser fitted. It is an aftermarket item rather than an original fitment judging by the wiring This device seems to have failed leading to us not being able to start the car at all, even if we just reconnect the battery the alarm goes off.
  • Insurance claims 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
My son was involved in a (relatively minor) incident but which involved a personal injury claim from a pedestrian who simply ran out from between cars in a dark garage forecourt. In our view the pedestrian?s behaviour was absolutely reckless, whilst the most important thing is that the outcome was a 2mph bump by the car which knocked him over in the process, but with no reported injury at the time. Our insurer has decided to settle this because they say that where a pedestrian is involved the court invariably decides in their favour.
  • Mrs Nsar is looking to change - suggestions please 9 Jul 2008 (Forum)
If prices are softening is it more economic to suffer depreciation on a car worth around £5k with 25mpg than to suffer the depreciation on £15k but get perhaps 45mpg (and lower road fund) 3. If she does switch what would you go for with the above criteria - badge is quite important so Kia's etc whilst they may be admirable cars are not going to get a look in Thanks as ever.
  • Advice on a car for us! 30 Jun 2008 (Forum)
We are both retired on VERY modest fixed pensions and economy of purchase, road tax, insurance and VED are of prime importance - to the exclusion of pretty well any other criteria. So - should we keep our Fabia (LHD) in the UK? Generally used car prices here hold up well compared to the UK, so selling here and starting afresh might be a good option.
  • C1/Aygo/107 - Realistic option 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Then I will aproximately once a week have to drive 24 miles from one work site to another on A-roads (not sure of speed limits / how busy). I'm no brand snob and don't need a car to do 100mph - cheap motoring is more important to me than looking cool (although I have to look respectable for my job), but I am conscious that my Saxo is on the edge of looking silly with me in it.... Help...!
  • Boshi Oil Filter 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
With oil changes at 4500, this means quite a saving Milner are a long-established operation, and they say that they can sell at this price as they import themselves and buy in bulk. They say that they have never had problems with them. The filter looks well-made, with a plastic membrane over the "business end". Yes, I know you have to remove it before fitting.
  • Would ye stop doin' that, would ye? 11 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Yanking the rear view mirror towards SWMBO to check lippy, at least half an hour before reaching destination and imminent (apparently deadly-important) social event, such as tea at Aunty Flo's. Have I missed any??
