Can anyone with a automotive engineering background give a view on 'performance' brake discs and whether it is worth upgrading for the average motorist. I'm thinking of the discs that have grooves and/or holes in the discs. Call my cynical but I can't see them improving braking performance by very much. -

i have a set of braided brake hoses on my car, i got them beacuse i understood they were pretty much bullet proof and would last way longert than standard rubber ones today on the mot brake tester one burst..it spilt open! anyone heard of them failing before? -

Last week me and my mate traveled in the very early morning to work, we came to a small empty junction (in Leeds) and when I tried to brake the Micra brakes pedal went all the way to the floor (basically no brakes). We were going only 27 mph and the junction was empty so we were lucky enough to cross it in red and stop on the other side. -

Today, only a few days after its first MOT at 4 years/50k miles, my 1.7 Corsa lost its brakes just after I pulled out of a tight parking slot in Belfast. I noticed that the brake pedal stayed firm but that the battery discharge light stayed on, there was no useful residual braking left. -

Hi I have been informed by DVSA that Hyundai have recognised a problem following a number of complaints of locking/sticking rear brakes. Hyundai have developed a new compound for the brake pads and these are now ready for supply into service. If you have had a problem with your rear brakes notify your dealer and ask for the new compound pads to be fitted on the warranty. -

Hi, I've got a 2003 Renault Scenic 1.4 (old shape), which is pulling to the left under medium braking. Light braking, it's fine, heavy braking, it's fine, but under medium braking, it seems to dive down a bit at the front, along with wallowing off to the left. The car continues on dead straight when not braking, so tracking etc seems OK. -

My Vectra (2.0T model) is now 13 months old and has 15k on the clock. Now it may just be me but it sounds like the rear brake pads may be getting down to the backing material. When I brake and gently come to a standstill the rear wheels make that noise similar to a dinghy being pulled along wet sand! but the brake action is positive and there is no squealing. -

It was sold with a brand new MOT and has only done 200 miles since, so it cant be the brake pads wearing. Its noticable only really with normal braking...If the brakes are applied softly while crawling in traffic, or heavily in an emergency type stop, it doesnt really notice at all, but its definately audible with normal braking. -
