  • Hyundai i10 and probably other models. - Sticking rear brake solution from Hyundai 18 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Hi I have been informed by DVSA that Hyundai have recognised a problem following a number of complaints of locking/sticking rear brakes. Hyundai have developed a new compound for the brake pads and these are now ready for supply into service. If you have had a problem with your rear brakes notify your dealer and ask for the new compound pads to be fitted on the warranty.
  • Honda Civic - Brake Wear 6 Mar 2012 (Forum)
There is no warning of brake problems int he car, and the squeal pin that is supposed to warn us of brake wear isn't making a noise as yet. Is it right that these brake problems can occur without warning? Should the last service have raised brake wear as an issue?
  • 2003 Renault Scenic (old shape) - Car Pulling to Left Under Braking 3 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I've got a 2003 Renault Scenic 1.4 (old shape), which is pulling to the left under medium braking. Light braking, it's fine, heavy braking, it's fine, but under medium braking, it seems to dive down a bit at the front, along with wallowing off to the left. The car continues on dead straight when not braking, so tracking etc seems OK.
  • Toyota Prius II (2003 - 2008) - 03 1.5 CVT transmission and engine braking 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Moving to 'B' from 'D' in a Prius II introduces a slight engine-braking effect. On any significant downhill incline, however, the car will accelerate more than engine braking can prevent and braking is required when for any reason, such as a limit, congtrol of pseed is necessary.
  • Vectra C rear brakes 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
My Vectra (2.0T model) is now 13 months old and has 15k on the clock. Now it may just be me but it sounds like the rear brake pads may be getting down to the backing material. When I brake and gently come to a standstill the rear wheels make that noise similar to a dinghy being pulled along wet sand! but the brake action is positive and there is no squealing.
  • Rover 416 Braking Problem 13 Jul 2003 (Forum)
It was sold with a brand new MOT and has only done 200 miles since, so it cant be the brake pads wearing. Its noticable only really with normal braking...If the brakes are applied softly while crawling in traffic, or heavily in an emergency type stop, it doesnt really notice at all, but its definately audible with normal braking.

  • Ford Mondeo Mk4 2L Diesel - Unusual sound when braking 4 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi, For the past few days I have noticed an unusual sound when braking. It seems to come from the rear of the car, and my wife swears that it is only from the right side (although I'm not sure). When I start braking the sound is not there, but as I brake harder, the sound suddenly appears and then stops the moment I ease off the brake.

  • Fiesta Brakes 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
My girlfriend has a 2000 X Fiesta Zetec with 25,000 mls on it. The brakes have always felt quite spongy but have always stopped well. She had to perform an emergency stop the other day and only just made it, she says that the brakes have been getting poorer. I took it out last night on a bit of deserted road and did lots of hard braking.

  • Polo Rear Brakes 11 May 2004 (Forum)
G Plate 1.3 Polo Sport. My son tells me after he changed the rear wheel bearings that there were no automatic brake adjusters in the rear drums. Is that correct. The MkII golf had them and the later Polos 91/2 on. It appears, he says, to rely on the hand brake adustment to take up the wear. Regards Peter
  • FIAT Panda - Brake Pad Shims Query 9 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Hi All In need of a bit of advice on brake pad shims, hoping someone can help me out. I started changing the front brake discs and pads yesterday evening on my Panda 1.2 Dynamic Dualogic as one disc is warped. I got to the point on the first wheel where I rotate the caliper down to hold the brake pads in place, but no matter what I did there was not enough space for the caliper to sit in it's correct position.
