Scorpio Cold Starting 19 Sep 2001 (Forum)
As a complete non mechanic perhaps you could advise on the following:- Last winter my scorpio 2.9 12v would start without a problem but then stall immediately if i didnt keep the revs up and generally act as if the leads were faulty until it warmed up. Then no problem. My local Ford dealer to his credit, refused to take the car in and said change the oil to 5w/40 ( i believe). Would that make sense to you as i didnt get round to it last winter but am about to get the oil changed and it has run perfectly all summer. Any thoughts. Regards John -

Mazda 5 - Mazda DPF oil return to sump 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I understand that during the regen process diesel is added to the DPF filter and this assists with the process. Should the engine be switched off mid way through the process it dumps the diesel into the oil sump. I know I have seen some companies who will remove DPF's and reprogram the ECU, ours doesnt seem to present too many problems with the exception of the sump oil level meaning an intermediate oil change is required between services. -
VW mk2 Golf 1300 transistorized ignition system - Faulty distributor sesnor 25 Feb 2011 (Forum)
If I disconnect the distributor from the engine and turn the rotar arm then the hall sensor does switch in the correct fashion, 4 times a revolution. So what casuses this fault? There is some oil in the distributor as if you remove the rotor arm the cam is wet with oil. I have GTX Magnatec oil and could the magnetic oil inside the distributor effect the hall sensor? Last year I had to change the timing belt and oil pressure sensors as these were damaged by oil leakage due to a blocked engine breather. -

Astra milky oil 15 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I recently went to Kwik Fit to have my oil changed on my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Petrol 2001. I usually do this myself but due to ill health could not do it this time. They opened the filler cap and found that it contained milky white oil and recommended to have it flushed out and checked by a gargage because they felt the head gasket had gone. -

Astra automatic gearbox problem 23 Aug 2003 (Forum)
. :( Well, I just wanted to ask someone who might have experience with Astra autos - from a cold start it changes gears at much higher revs than usual, about 3000 RPMs to move out of first. After about 5 minutes normal driving things are fine - gears change very smoothly at low revs. I initially thought this was due to the gearbox oil being cold, and perhaps it is, but strangely, checking the gearbox oil and removing and replacing the dipstick solves the problem for that journey. -
