  I wonder if anyone can help me with this - it's a long standing problem, the brake light warning light is on all the time although occasionally for no apparent reason it goes off for a few seconds and then comes on again even though the brake lights work normally. I have changed the brake light bulbs and cleaned all the contacts and all the LCD bulbs in the window light are working too.

  Just wondering if it's worth trying to do my 2000 1.9HDi Citroen Synergie's brake pads myself - has anyone got any experience in doing this job themselves? Or am I just tight. It's just hit 98,500 miles and I felt a distinct rubbing under heavy braking, braking has been poor of late, and I think may be almost down to the metal.

  1.6 ZM Engine (BJ)MAZDA 323F. Can someone tell me, when bleeding brakes does the engine have to be switched on to keep the ABS pump running. Or do you just bleed the brakes the normal way using two persons. It's just that I changed the brake fluid and now the pedel goes down a lot.

  Is there any way I can determine what exactly is causing the spongeyness? Here's what I do know Engine off brakes spongey but can be built up after pumping and remain good, until engine started, then they are spongey and remain spongey whilst driving. Very rarely a bit of pumping with engine runing can solidify brakes.

  On my ten year old Passat to cure a spongy brake pedal I have fitted a new master cylinder and still have spongy brakes. The hoses seem okay. The system is dual circuit with a mechanical load valve for the rear brakes. I have used a Gunson power bleed kit connected to a spare wheel tyre.

  Does anyone suffer from undue rear brake squeal on light braking on their previous model Vectra ? Mine's a 2001 2.2 with disks all round. It only happens when the brakes are warm, ie after normal driving for half a mile or so. Washing/hosing seems to make no difference, and it happens both in the dry and wet.

  Can anyone with a automotive engineering background give a view on 'performance' brake discs and whether it is worth upgrading for the average motorist. I'm thinking of the discs that have grooves and/or holes in the discs. Call my cynical but I can't see them improving braking performance by very much.
