Insurance- new car replacement 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I'm looking to take out RTI Gap on my new car. There is an option to delay the start of the GAP policy for 12 months, as my insurance company provide a replacement car in the first year. The only fly in the ointment is that I'm planning to change my insurance company in June, due to a nightmare I had trying to change the car over. -
Am I neglecting my car? 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Today is my car's annual £25 oil and filter change. Other than this I never EVER do any other maintenace on my car. I only cover around 6k miles a year. I see garages offering "full" services for anything around £60-£100 but this seems to me little more than the oil and filter change plus a brake/tyre check and anti-freeze drain/refill. -
CCTV For Cars 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I have a Seat Alhambra V\'99 model.I park my car away from the house in car parking bay, often out for sight of my house.I have had my car SCRATCHED many times by the LOCAL SCUM BAGS for no reason at all.I\'m after a system that I could use within the car which runs on 12v.It would be good if the cctv camera were infa red/low light, montion detected say 4 meter range, records to video/hard drive and cover 360 degess so may be more than one camera to be used. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 2.0d DPF problems 12 Feb 2013 (Forum)
They also said the service record computer on the car said this had happened before and a dealer had 'wiped the computer', even though I have never taken it to a dealer before. The long and short is that they won't do it under warranty (not exactly sure why, hoping to find out when I collect the car today), and when I rung Mazda UK to ask them about this they had no record of my car existing, and my VIN number was registered to a different registration number. -

Audi Paintwork 15 Aug 2006 (Forum)
However, the Manager was sure that the car had had paintwork on it as the car "was to clean" for a 5 year old car with 49k on clock (Surely that is no reason to say that a car has had work undertaken?). Therefore, the car would not be covered by Audi's 12 year Anti Corrosion Warranty. -
Dummies question. No insurance - test drive a car 27 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Some people have told me that any test drive that you do from a new/used car dealer means you are covered by the dealer's insurance but, um, that sounds more like an old wives tale than legal reality? So what do you do if you do not have a car yourself, and hence no car insurance, but you wish to go and test drive some cars? -
Any bike / car - Hypothetical question 3 Oct 2023 (Forum)
This is while riding normally not recklessly and with normal care and attention. I am wondering where the liability lies if that stone hits a car and chips the paint or breaks a window ? Obviously the car owner would not be happy about the damage but the cyclist has done nothing wrong either. Also most cyclists don't have insurance to cover costs to other vehicles. -
Ford /honda - Researching second hand car 2 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Hello all again Still looking for a second hand car 10 to 12 thousand.and as it's my wife's car for the kid stuff etc reliability is important. I looked at a grand picasso which I liked it had all the practically from a family point of view but with advice from this website and checking out various things I decided it's a bit iffy with regards to mot failures , too many non specific faults with regards to warning lights covering SRS problems, tyre pressure monitor, etc etc etc. -
Vauxhall Astra life 2007 petrol 1.8 hatchback - Difficulty starting car in morning 9 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I had a problem starting my car in the mornings . The mechanic noticed that the rocker cover gasket was leaking oil and the oil could be leaking onto the plugs & that could be the reason why as it wasn't giving enough spark , and the battery was tested and found to be weak. -
Lexus LS430 - Short term insurance on a big engine car 19 May 2017 (Forum)
This is just to drive to the workshop to get the MOT sorted. Looked at a short term insurance company but they dont cover cars older than 10 years. Does anyone know where to get a 7 day insurance(or even a 1 day! insurance)such as the type offered by dealers when you buy a car from them. -
Vauxhall Adam - Vauxhall Adam wiring fault 21 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Part due in now in six week, so almost two months of no car. We have talked to vauxhall customer service to reject the car and have it replaced. Vauxhall have refused this as the work is covered by warranty!!! Thinking our next route is ombudsman. Is there any advice? -
BMW 3 Series Coupe - Car Allowance 3 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I've recently been offered a new position for £38K and option for company car or car allowance [£300]. I don't know how many miles I'll do as I haven't started yet. I'm thinking about buying a BMW Series 3 Coupe 335 petrol as my personal car and I don't mind use it for business purpose at all. -
Fiesta 70ps 1.4 Tdci - Chipping a diesel? 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Adrian Flux can provide cover for £500 fully comp. My existing company does not insure cars against such mods. My question is , am I playing a dangerous game contemplating such a modification. Are Adrian Flux a decent company? -
Ford Mondeo/Peugeot 407 - Petrol or Diesel ? 27 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Considering that diesel cars are more expensive to purchase (both when new and second hand) and potential repair costs are significantly higher, at what point do diesel cars become uneconomical ? I have a commute of 500 miles per week, so I will cover somewhere in the region of 25,000 miles in the next 12 months depending on how many times I'm sent overseas. -
volkswagen Golf mk5 - 'Clattering' noise from rear of car 26 Jun 2012 (Forum)
About 8 months ago, someone bumped into the rear of my car whilst parked in a car park, hardly any noticible damage, in fact didnt notice for two days, however the bumper is ever so slightly pushed forward on the drivers side. Last night driving home I noticed what can be described as a 'metalic clatter' or like two metal plates being slapped together, or the sound a loose manhole cover makes when you drive over them, when I go over rough ground or speed bumps. -
Ford Focus - Selling a car without the buyer present 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
He has offered to send a cheque covering the car and the cost for the shipping (I don't know if this means abroad), and 'any other costs', and has asked me to clear the cheque, take the cost of the car and then send the excess money to the shipping agent who will then come and pick it up. -

I bought the car 10 months after first registration by Seat UK with zero miles on the clock. the car would officially be 4 years old in Feb 2012, so technically I have driven the car from zero miles within 3 years. -
Mazda 121^ - Steering Rack 4 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Took the car to a Tyre Centre who informed me that the noise was not related to the tyres at all.Took the car back to the Mazda Dealer about 2 weeks after warranty expires and was told that the car needed a new steering rack., and that it was not covered by the guarantee and that they will not help in any way .
