Fiat Punto! 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I was happily driving along when all of a sudden I could not accelerate anymore. As I moved to hard shoulder my car cut out. I was towed to my local garage and he is looking it at it as we speak. Any suggestions with what he might come up with? Cheers -
Tipping 10 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Last night I had cause to call out the RAC man to recover a car (the new Fiesta seems to have burnt it's clutch out...) He turned up reasonably promptly (40 mins), was helpful, towed the car about 2.5 miles and is getting good feedback on the custoner care card he gave us. Should I have tipped him? If so, how much? Who else might you tip, in a motoring context? (I thought I'd asked this one before but a Forum Search didn't reveal it) -
non starting polo 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
my 1994 polo gt coupe would not start one wet night.the car a 1300 injection (3f engine) will not start.it was running a short time and then would not start, i tried jumping and towing it to try to start it. there is no spark at the plugs, there was a new dizzy fitted two weeks ago it was running fine until that night. i have just fitted a new coil to it i changed the rotor arm and cap at the same time as it was black and pitted and they are not that expensive, the leads are 4 months old. what do i look at next? -
Camper Vans 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
To do so you need to camp on the mountain halfway through a stage, so he wants a camper (doesnt fancy towing his caravan up the mountain). He has looked into renting a camper, but has been quoted £900 per week. Does anyone think it would be feasible to buy an old camper, holiday for, say, three weeks, and then sell it again, preferably without losing any money (apart from fuel)? -
good garage list 10 Aug 2005 (Forum)
My other half's 318Ci (E46, 2000V) broke down yesterday, and rather than go straight to the Dealer, I thought I'd try some of the recommended garages on the site for it to be towed to. For all three of those that I tried (PDQ in Bexleyheath & Chislehurst, Steve King Sidcup), the number proved to be unobtainable. Ended up at a place recommended by the Green Flag guy. Perhaps these need to be updated? -
Wheel clamping 20 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I just caught the tail end of an item on wheel clamping on BBCs Watchdog. It centred on a clamping operator who was towing away legally parked cars and (seemingly) getting away with demanding a £200 fee to release the car. Can anyone explain why such operators are allowed to operate outside the law and are not immediately subject to a visit by the police? -
Selby Rail Crash 14 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have just read the article in the DT about sleeping at the wheel, and was particularly interested in the photo showing the Selby crash. I had always believed that Mr Hart had been driving a car, towing a Landy on a trailer, but the photo would indicate he was driving the Landy. Does anyone know the full facts? As the owner of a Landy, I cannot believe that anyone, no matter how late they had stayed up, could fall asleep at the wheel. -
Cavalier battery change now won't start 7 Dec 2002 (Forum)
It usually started first time every time, replaced ECU and ignition relay, fuel pump working fine. Anyone have any ideas?, will not go on a bump start or whilst being towed either. :( -
wheel clamps 4 May 2002 (Forum)
So - if the car is clamped presumably it will stay there for about an hour until payment is made and the thing can get removed thus causing more obstruction than the illegal parking would most likely have ever caused. I can't see the point at all - just ticket the car or tow it away. -
The dreaded 1.1 Fiesta 19 Dec 2001 (Forum)
This tends to happen when slowing down to negotiate a junction. There's plenty of life in the battery, but it won't fire. If you then tow it, it will start and run perfectly well. The breathers have been cleaned, it does some decent runs, and the oil is the correct grade. I suspect something is going awry with the engine management system. -
AA repairs 28 Aug 2001 (Forum)
She assumed that the repair would last long enough to get her home, but within a few miles the engine began making odd noises. The car had to be towed to a local garage. The garage say that severe overheating has wrecked the engine, and that the AA repair was inadequate. Does she have a claim against the AA for the cost of repairs that might not have been needed if they hadn't got her going again. -
