  • Auto Protect 10 May 2005 (Forum)
Website (www.autoprotect.net) does not seem to exist, although I think they have just been brought out. Just that I was considering sorting out some form of warranty for the Volvo estate I've just brought and this is the bunch that the company I brought the car from have (apparantly) a good deal with.
  • Tonight's traffic Cops 23 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Survey time, do you think that the copper that was driving the Volvo on the Cat and Fiddle tonight a. was really good at his job or b. a smug policeman? I am personally still trying to work out my own opinion! I dare say I know how I would feel if I was stopped by him!
  • First 'service' 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Just booked my Volvo XC90 in for it's first service, 3k or 3 month job. Turns out it's not a service as such, just a look over. I'm told the first time it gets a 'proper' service is 12k or a year. Is this the norm these days, and if so can it be good for a new engine to run 12k on the factory oil?
  • Independents vs main dealers, round 48 4 Jan 2013 (Forum)
“It is creating a monopoly by designing this mechanism to keep cars in with the franchise holders,” said Martin Matthewson, who owns the independent Volvo centre in Basingstoke, Hampshire. “Programs on your home computer have software updates, so people think their car needs updated software to run at its best even if it is a bit of a fallacy — they don’t do very much.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - whooshing noise on test drive 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Dear all, Mrs apm and I have settled on a Volvo S60 as our next car. I looked at three today, just considering options. All are D5's, with SE spec. 1) Silver with light grey leather, auto, 33k, 55 plate. This one's an ex-company car, felt a little tired and unloved, despite low miles.
  • Used car prices 26 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Hardly news, I know, but we seem to be in a parallel world.  I have been idly browsing a few ads and have come across (I won't link to it) a 2006 Volvo V50 1.8 petrol with 98,000 miles on it up for £8,499.  I bought a 2007 Ford Focus estate (the same car) with fewer miles on it for £1,250 in 2016!
  • xc90 - best lights I've ever used. 11 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Got a Volvo xc90 as a courtesy car, first time out in the dark and it's awesome. Lights follow where you are steering and when you get the headlights on its like daylight... I heard these cars dipped beams adjust automatically to avoid annoying oncoming cars but not sure.
  • Any - car suggestions 23 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My car looks likely to be written off, 2008 Volvo V70, 76k. Bumper smashed, bonnet crumpled, one wing badly damaged and power steering gone. Reckon £8,000  with extra money above settlement on new car so what to get? Need some economy, get 5 in sometimes, and reliable.
  • bulb life 7 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I was idly sat waiting at the lights with the indicator flashing away and tried to remember the last time an indicator bulb blew. I have never had one go was the answer, numerous Volvos have blown all the others and headlight bulbs seem to go every now and then on other makes but why this immunity for indicators? on the face of it they should be the most vulunerable.
  • Radar Gun Haul Today - Quicksilver 1 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Today, a highly visible Police Volvo was sited alongside a 40mph dual carriageway near me, on the approach to a roundabout. On my outward journey the capture was a silver Mercedes. On my return, the capture was .... wait for it, another silver Mercedes!
  • Liverpool Victoria ad - what car ? 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Bit embarrassing for someone who thinks they can identify most cars around, but here goes. Can anyone tell me what the red car is in the Liverpool Victoria TV ad, the one the runaway Volvo smashes into first ? Is it a real car or have the boffins retouched the image to create something else entirely ?
  • Best estate for £3K 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Requirements are: Preferably diesel Manual Space for a dog Nice drive/stylish (know this is in the eye of the beholder) Budget is about £3k, have perused the Volvos, Fords, Skoda estates and they all seem to fit the bill but need some real world experience. Thanks in advance!
  • Big Estates 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hi, my partner is thinking of buying a Volvo V70 because it has a large flat load area when the seats are dropped and a quey thing is that the front passenger seat folds forward (flat) to make further loading space (eg; planks of wood, pipes etc) Does anyone know of any other make of vehicle that has this feature?
  • Series 3 or S60? 21 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I am looking for a used car with a budget of £7000 and I can't make up my mind between the Volvo and the BMW. I'm looking at the frugal end of the engine scale: 2.0 on the S60, 318i on the BMW. I'm looking for a good all rounder not a "driving experience". Other than buy another car altogether, any advice?
  • Which cars have cruise control? 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Does anyone know of any cars within a budget of £15K (new or up to 3 years old) come with cruise control? I am aware of the Mondeo Ghia X (just within budget at car supermarkets) and used to have a Volvo S40 SE with it. Must be a manual. Thanks in advance Dave
  • What is the best car for me? 13 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Estate ideally, for space, though I do like a commanding drive height.  Been looking at Volvo V70/XC70, Ford focus estate, pegeuot 207 estate, mercedes and bmw, audi too. Cann't make a decision.  Ideally I don't want another project, so something which is reliable and good on the motorway runs.

  • Volvo 740/760 (1984 - 1990) - 90 2.0 Antifreeze fumes? 18 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I've just bought a very cheap 740 to tide me over for a few months. I certainly wasn't expecting perfection but I am really disappointed at one problem....
  • Dependable Estate upto £5K 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Took a Lexus GS300 last year but was so overloaded the Mrs said never again a normal saloon or hatchback. Have taken a Volvo V90, Escort, Cavalier in previous years and have completed my own maintenance on everything and they';ve got me there and back on the 2k trip without a hiccup (yet!!!). This year I am swaying between a cheapo Volvo, Sigma, Camry or Old E Class estate or thinking about spalshing £5k out and getting possibly a Mondeo Ghia X, C Class, 280/320/430 E Class Estate or even possibly a 530d Tourer (the only diesel I'd really consider unless something else was stupidly cheap).
