  • Rocker box warmers? i.e. Ford's OHV 2 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi With all these problems of blocked breather tubes caused by condensation in Fiesta engines, has anybody ever tried insulating the roker box to keep it warmer in cold weather and hence reduce condensation leading to mayonnaise? If so did it work and what material did you use?

  • Whatever next. Qualified clampers! 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
A UK exam board is offering a qualification in wheel clamping. Clampers will be able to take a two-unit course, which will lead to a vocational BTec qualification in "vehicle immobilisation". And frustrated motorists will be reassured to know that "conflict management" is part of the course work. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4055651.stm
  • Leaky Punto 4 Dec 2004 (Forum)
My X-reg Punto with aircon suffers from a damp passenger footwell after rain. This leads to overnight misting and sometimes internal frosting. Under the bonnet, there is a large trough with two drain holes. I always keep these clear and can discover no other leak. Has any other Punto owner experienced this and found a cure please?
  • A6 shape Audi 100 2.3 5cyl rotor arm 18 May 2004 (Forum)
All the better for some new plugs & leads, but still think it could go better (or rather, idle more smoothly). Had a little tug at the rotor arm with a view to buying a new one, and it didn't seem to shift - is there a knack to this? AAR engine.

  • SORN but not forgotten ? 7 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Last year I sorned my car instead of taxing it. I was lead to believe that this only lasted a year and I would be sent a renewal notice. Suffice it to say this hasn't arrived. Is this normal. I know I can get a form and send it off to Swansea but if this is lost I know it can cause problems.

  • Jump starting 19 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I think this may have been covered before, but can anyone advise me of the dangers of using jump leads and ECUs. I recently used a Micra to jump start another car and it later refused to start, and now runs badly. What could be the likely trouble? The hand book and workshop manuals detail the procedure, but give no disadvantages.
  • Rover 214 Si starting problems 24 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The starter motor turns the engine, but no firing occurs. When jump leads where attached it turned slightly better and with a bit of gas sounded like it was juuust about to kick into life but never did. Is this a common problem with my 7 year old car with an easy solution?

  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Misfire frustration! 13 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hey all, About 5 or 6 weeks ago I posted regarding a misfire that had developed and was solved at the time by replacing the HT leads to cyclinders 1 & 2. They both had orange rust like residue around the base on the outside and the wells in which the plugs sit had similar, as if there had at some point been a half inch of water in there.
  • Primera Starting problem 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Last night I removed the spark plugs which were covered in petrol, the pistons all seemed to move up and down ok. I checked that all plugs had a spark, although I used No.1 HT lead to test them all, so unsure if the other HT leads are ok. I then connected jump leads up incase the battery had a dry cell, still no luck. I could also smell petrol, i.e, I assume it's getting through to the cylinder (and the Cat!!!)

Ford are claiming that a spark plug is responsible for bore damage leading to a replacement of the no.4 short block. This has led to a bill of £3500 which dealers have agreed to pay half. They are refusing the claim because spark plugs are only vcovered for one year.
