  i have a bmw compact, 1996, SE spec. i want to lower the car, it has 17\" alloys on with 215/40/17 Avons. i have seen various suspension kits, from the likes of H&R, Eibach, Avo, Cobra, Apex and PI. The question is many suspension companies offer springs which lower the car more at the front than at the back - for example Cobra offer a sring kit which lowers the front by 50mm and the back by 30mm, i was speaking to a freind and he said this would mess the whole ride up completley, is it better to get a srpring kit which lowers evenly all round or does it not make much difference.

  Looking into buying a 2002 BMW 3 Series compact. I don't know much about cars only that the BMW parts tend to be expensive. Do you think it is worth the price I only aim to have it for a year and hopefuly not have to pay for any major work. They are  asking for £1200.

  Later I found out that the noise which is heard somewhere under the dashboard/floor or engine compartment in the right side can also be heard if I run with the left front wheel or the rear wheels through road bumps, and it is heard in the same place (front right). The sound is there from 2800 km, now the car is 10000km. I assume this means that it is not from the front right suspension?

  Just had an MoT failure on a 1993 Mk3 Astra (worn rear bush on front lower suspension arm/wishbone). Got a replacement wishbone off ebay, miraculously, for £9.99 complete with both front and rear bushes, and lower ball-joint already fitted!! Unfortunately I can't get the front pivot bolt out.

  I have also swapped the front wheels with the rear to try to rule out tires and the noise still remains and sounds like its still in the front, they also appear to be wearing ok. The front discs and pads have also been changed which hasnt made a difference.

  hi there, have been offered a VW Bora 1.9TDI PD 100bhp Highline in black with black leather interior. its a 2004 54 plate. Just turned 3 years old.Full MOT. Mileage is 121k. 1 owner from new with full vw history. heated seats.air con.cruise etc. Asking price is £6700. What are these cars like? Is the price good or high? 100bhp doesnt seem allot for a big car......is it enough for the bora? Anyone got any experience of these cars.

  Both Joe at auctioncarbuyer and I have been looking around and could not find one that?s in good/original condition and at book price. Now, I want a top spec car, with electric, heated (leather) seats, cd changer, auto-dimming mirrors and a 2-litre engine. I am looking at both the Mondeo Ghia X and Primera SVE/T-spec. Would any of the BRer have any other suggestion for a 3-4 year-old, top-spec cars, launched in this millennium and cost less than £5,000?

  Also being a dopey sod I didn't initially notice that the car had a no smoking sticker (and a few other stickers) inside the windscreen, so I'm guessing it's probably an ex-rental? Carcraft didn't supply any car mats with the Focus, so I'm just wondering if any of you friendly people know a good place to buy them, either online or in a shop?

  There has also been one instance of returning to the car in a car park to find all of the side windows fully open (the car has "global opening /closing"), and another occassion where the radiator cooling fan stayed on after the car was locked - cold day after a short run of 15 miles, air con switched off, and temp gauge showing normal reading - the fan when off after car restarted and switched off.

• Bumpers 18 Oct 2005 (Forum)
  Modern front and rear panels gave cars a clean, uncluttered look so manufacturers bestowed grilles, scoops, stakes etc upon them. But are they bumpers? I would say cars do not have bumpers any more. A colleague of mine drives a battered old banger and unashamedly goes in for contact parking - part of the reason the banger is battered.

  Whilst checking my tyres at the weekend I was surprised to find that the rear threads (or is it treads?) are down to 2-3mm, the fronts are at 4-5mm. My surprise is because my last set of tyres wore more quickly on the front, albeit a different make of tyre and I have changed the tyre pressures I use on the fronts. All 4 tyres were changed at the same time.
