Nissan Note - Gap Insurance from a main dealer - fact or fantasy 2 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I recently bought a NIssan, in the short time I've had the car I have leant a lot about nissan dealers and the extras they tout, I can also see why they score poorly as compared to the likes of Honda Dealers etc. Under no circumstance take out a Nissan dealer's Gap insurance, Gap insurance is imho a good thing to have, for those that don't know it effectively covers the short-fall between what your insurer pays out and the purchase price of your car, in the event of a total loss claim, normally covering up to 3 years. -
Skoda Octavia I (1998 - 2004) - 2005 1.6 (8 valve) - mayonnaise on oil cap 12 Feb 2008 (Forum)
This is the "Mk 1" model with 8 valve "MPI" engine (not FSI) - must be one of the last ones made (registered May 2005). I got the car in October 2007 and have covered 3000 miles, bringing its total to a very modest 13,600 miles or so. I just checked the oil level, needed to top up, then to my horror found "mayonnaise" inside the oil filler cap. -
Parking Ticket 27 Apr 2007 (Forum)
In my opinion these signs do not cover this stretch of road, there is adequate area for a sign to cover this stretch (sufficient for 3 cars to park). I know many colleagues who park here on a daily basis and as far as I know, no-one has received a ticket previously. -
Dvla taking me to court! 21 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hello all, , looking for some advice here. I scrapped my car in septemberr, admittedly I forgot to send off the slip to say I didn't own the car anymore and only remembered when a letter came to my mothers house saying my car had been seen on the road even though it had been sorned! -
Audi a6 avant - Garage refuses to pay for fault 7 Aug 2012 (Forum)
They also stated that the Audi garage who serviced the vehicle in October would have paid 70% towards fixing the fault, (even though the vehicle has covered 112000 miles and is 4 years old!) I believe they should pay for the work carried out as I don't believe they checked the filters prior to the vehicle being sold, (they had bought the car the day I viewed it), and on there website they state all cars are thoroughly inspected before being advertised for sale. -
Time to hang up the spanners? 2 May 2003 (Forum)
Job done - congratulate self on saving garage labour costs - buy bottle of Pomerol as reward. Oblivious to one bolt securing a small plastic section of belt cover not being tightened.......... Off on holiday to Norfolk en famille, said bolt finally vibrates its way out and drops onto cambelt. Exits through belt and timing cover - pistons once more have an intimate moment with valves. -
Citroen C3 - advice re old Citroen C3 13 Jul 2024 (Forum)
I have a 2006 Citroen C3 that I like very much - it's been brilliant since I bought it 5 years ago and needed no repairs until it broke down this week in France with a broken clutch. I'm being quoted 950 euros for the clutch to be repaired there, which is about £800. The car is only worth about £700, so the insurance won't cover recovering it to the UK. It ought to be a no-brainer to sc*** it but I am torn because it's been such a reliable little car and I'm sure it has a few years left in it. -

W205 C Class - mercedes electric steering motor failure 26 Sep 2023 (Forum)
The electric steering motor failed, I am told I need a new steering rack. I have an extended warranty from Mercedes, would one expect this item to be covered as the car was serviced by Mercedes dealership from new when I bought it. The power steering just failed with no warning when I was driving the car in traffic!! I note on the web that there have been many recalls with Mercedes electric power steering, so is there a general fault with the design? -
Mazda 3 2017 - Spare Wheel 15 Feb 2018 (Forum)
We have our car through Motability and have booked a holiday to France even got our European breakdown cover through the RAC at no extra charge, all good so far. However having read the book the RAC sends through it says that if you have a puncture and there is space for a spare wheel and no spare wheel present then they will not assist. -
Mercedes C200K estate - Autotrader text scam 27 Mar 2013 (Forum)
This I did, then they asked me to pay £80 to cover their collection, through Paypoint, then enter the paypoint receipt number and the car would be collected as agreed. This could just possibly be genuine, but I doubt it very much. On the principle that you don't ask people to pay them to buy something off you, it looks like a scam to me. -
Vauxhall Zafira - Faulty tail and brake light on a Zafira B 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I can't see how 3 bulbs have blown at once so suspect it may be a fuse. I have the Haynes manual for the car but it doesn't say which fuse covers the lights. Can anybody point me in the direction of a fuse box layout for my car or let me know if they have had a similar problem and how to sort it? -
Citroen C3 1.4 HDi Desire 2006 - Citroen C3 Anti Pollusion Warning 19 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I've booked it into a Citreon garage who are going to take a look at it. Has anyone experienced this and how much did a repair set you back? The car does have a 12 month Citroen Select used car warranty (it's an 06 reg and I bought it last July) - will this problem be covered in that? Thank you -
Suzuki Alto 1.0 GL Petrol 54 reg - Oil in Air Filter Housing 5 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hubby got his mum's car for a couple of days to do a service, and when he took cover off air filter, found a lot of engine oil in the housing and around the edge of the filter itself. He's dried it out and going to take it for a run to see if it happens again, as don't want to ruin a new filter, but any idea what might be causing it. -

Vauxhall - 08 1.3 slipping clutch 25 Nov 2009 (Forum)
This Vauxhall has been used as a driving school car it has covered 33.000 miles on a 1.3 eco flex engine , this last week it is noticeable that the clutch slips in high gears when asked to make progress , I know its use is heavy and varied but would it be considered normal to be slipping at such low mileage , I had a citreon saxo from new that did 125,000 before it did anything and that was a school car to, Any views {58 changed to 08, as the question asked for year of manufacture, not vehicle reg prefix} {Which Vauxhall btw? -
'I'll speak to the service manager' but doesn't 6 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I sat in a main dealer today on my own waiting for my car and listened to a conversation with the service receptionist. Basically a customer's car needed new pads and discs at the front which she said needed replacing and weren't covered by warranty. After some discussion she said 'I'll speak to the service manager'. -
Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 04 1.9 TDI high mileage purchase. 11 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I am considering buying a high mileage (110k+) 1.9 TDI A4 MY 2004 on an 04 plate with a view to covering up to 30k miles per year for 2 years. Does anyone have any experience of running these cars up towards 200k miles and what to look out for at purchase beyond a history of correct servicing. Quite a few cars i'm looking at appear to have been on variable servicing. -
Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - 91 1.3 petrol in oil 20 Aug 2008 (Forum)
hi, i'm just wandering anyone would know if there is anywayz the petrol could mix with the oil on these engines?, the things is the car is a very poor starter the fuel delivary is nearly non existant and the oil light likes coming on quite often but the carb stinks of petrol and the rocker cover stinks of petrol, i did manage to fix a leak in the inlet manifold due to a failed gasket but weirdly the manifold its self was swimming in petrol, i was told the float settings in the car don't need to be adjusted because their self-adjusting????
