  • no charge warning light 22 Jan 2007 (Forum)
hi, apparently i was reading the other day that if the bulb goes for a burton on the battery charge warning lamp this will cause the alternator to fail as this is the primary circuit that energizes the alternator"magnetic field"on the initial starting/ charging process, so if you suddenly get a flat battery one morning or any time i suppose check the bulb first before shelling out for a recon alternator, does this make sense to all you auto-electricians out there?

  • Passat - rough idle 9 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Just had phone call from distressed Passat owner - he has had a flat battery, replaced it, and now car idles very roughly. (I suspect this is immediately after replacing battery and he hasn't actually driven far) Any ideas - he had some idea of ECU's 'losing' settings and having to re-learn them, but surely the idle setting is the idle setting ?
  • Nissan Primera P10 bulb replacement 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I am replacing a headlamp bulb on my 96 Primera. Mr Hayne's manual advises me to disconnect the negative battery lead before proceeding. Two questions. One What am I risking if I don't disconnect the battery lead? Two. Will I need to input the radio security code if I do disconnect. The code may be hard/impossible to find.
  • Rover 100 - Electrical problem 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone help please with a problem which is driving my wife, our local garage and myself wild? My wife's 1996 Rover 111sli keeps dying with an electrical fault - not charging and the battery going completely flat. We've changed the battery, alternator and regulator. It's an intermittent fault, so every time it's in the garage, having been towed back again, it behaves perfectly. Anyone else had this problem please?
  • Schizo Alternator? 1 Aug 2002 (Forum)
This problem is intermittent and has been going on for about a month. The alternator and battery both checked out fine on a test stand at the shop so I'm confused. While idling, the battery voltage is 12V but drops to 10V after some time or right after stop and go driving. At 2500 RPM the terminals read about 13.5V The tachometer jumps around a lot while driving.
  • Ford Scorpio Computer Glitch 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)

  • Toyota Yaris - Should I buy a Toyota Yaris hybrid (2020-present)? 6 Apr 2024 (Forum)
The car that is always mentioned for its reliability is the Yaris. I also like the new look of them. However, now onto my concern is the battery issues which I’ve read online, it seems to be common. I drive twice a week usually. I am not sure if hybrid would be the right choice especially since I don’t drive often and I do not know if this will degrade the battery.
  • ford focus 1.6 petrol auto 2011 - battery problem 20 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Self and wife help in caring for neighbour. Her car, serviced to date, has developed a fault which drains battery completely in a few seconds. Main ford dealer services always but now closed locally. Battery replaced with Halfords who changed it after a few months as thought it had "failed" and replaced on warranty.
  • Mazda 6 - Engine cutting out when cold then running cold 24 Mar 2015 (Forum)
In stop/start town driving it gets a bit warmer, but still not quite up to the halfway mark on the gauge. The car had a new battery a couple of moths ago, but other than that no other changes. I've only noticed this behaviour since the new battery, it started immediately the battery was changed. The old battery had gone totally flat.
  • Mercedes A-Class - A190 Starting issues 16 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I'm unsure if this is the item I'm supposed to be looking at, regardless if that 3 wire connector is connected, the dash still shows which gear I am in, it reads neutral when in neutral and vice versa. - If I were to check those3 pin connections, am I right in going in red wire at each point and black on battery earth with my multimeter to check resistance? Any help would be great.  I'm also assuming it isn't a relay as battery voltage is going to the starter? - Also there is no solenoid clicking, but I have read this is normal for this class of Mercedes?
  • Hyundai i10 (2008 - ) - Experiences of i10 ownership! 11 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The RAC chap kindly rang the dealer and supplied documentary evidence saying the battery was u/s. The dealer accepted this and the hunt began for a spare battery.... not ONE was to be found in the country !! - the dealer retrieved one from a brand new i10 that had been delivered that afternoon !
  • squealing fan belt 21 Aug 2019 (Forum)
The above question is on the agony column today.  HJ agrees with the mech stating because the battery may be low the ALTERNATOR is putting a strain on the belt demanding charge for the battery! Surely the alternator is passive and only driven by the belt?  He does agree that a new belt will fix the problem

No response when turning the key in the ignition. Could a battery failure in the key fob cause this problem?
  • Chrysler Voyager - chrysler voyager battery drain solved 30 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Its all to do with the ignition key. You can remove the key and the van will still run. To remove the key correctly push in the button next to the barrel...
  • landrover freelander 2 - freelander 2 not starting 19 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Our 60 reg freelander has drained its battery 3 times in the last 4 months. It is used regularly but not every day for a mixture of driving. We think the radio might be slow draining the battery as some times there are issues with the radio if you leave it on when turning off ignition.
