Hi there i have a fiesta on 02 reg and the speedo is not working and the mileage is just on _ _ _ _ _
i have changed the vss but still the same and there is a little problem with the starting of the car to and that is if i charge the battery fully it will start ok but if i leave it for a day or so then it turns over as good as if the battery as just been charged but it won't start but if i put a jump pack or charger on it and turn the key it starts hope you can help thanks danny

Sounds as thought you have a power supply failure to the speedo, check the PCB for cracks in the soldered joints.

For the other problem check that you have about 14.5 volts across the battery with the engine running and check the battery voltage before you try and start the car, it should be a little over 12 volts.

ok thanks i will check that out but i did try a different speedo but then it didn't start the dash lights all came on but then nothing happened as to the turning over of the car so i put the right speedo back in and then it starts but the speedo still don't work and the mileage is just showing _ _ _ _ _ but the clock in the same window is working fine thanks i will try what you said and let you know what i fine thanks again Danny

sorry as for the battery problam we have checked that and there is 14.8 when the car is running and 12.5 when its not and as you crank it.it goes down to about 11.3 and goes back when you stop

That sounds OK for the battery. Is there a printed circuit board that the speedo is fed from?

Hi there in the back of the speedo there is but that all looks ok well what i can see of it any way i have taken it apart as much as i can and it looks ok it has got me stumped it looks like i may have to scrap the thing if i can't get it working

This could be a battery problem.Get it tested properly by a competent auto electrical specialist.hth

+1 for the battery

Sometimes batteries seem ok on volts but can't produce the amps when they get old.
