  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1993 1.1 Fuel Light on when tank and gauge at 75% 9 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, What it says on the subject line really. I've done 100 miles since filling up, the gauge reads about 3/4 a tank, but the fuel light is on. My first thought was it is a warning about something but I see nothing in the manual. It's a 1993 L reg Graduate with a 1.1 petrol engine and the really minimal dashboard (temp light not gauge) Anyone experienced this?
  • How much has the fuel increase cost you? 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I calculate that roughly 10p a litre has gone on fuel this last few weeks around here. I get through about 40 litres a week so thats £4.00. extra. A month thats £16.00, so a year thats almost £200.00. With two cars running at about the same mileage thats £400.
  • Queued up 'cos fuel went up to 50p a gallon! 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know if fuel is actually dearer now as a percentage of average income than when it went up to 50p a gallon in the early seventies. I was in the army in Blandford running a Viva HB and earning I suppose not much more than £30 a week.
  • Fuel Prices 11 May 2007 (Forum)
Has anyone noticed how much petrol has gone up with diesel remaing static in a few outlets around the Leeds area petrol is now dearer than diesel and many have it at the same price.Having just come back from Germany where fuel prices have dropped since their usual easter rise and in Holland where diesel was 102 cents a litre why the increase in the UK? I suppose its the same as why has my iceberg lettuce gone up from 69p to 99p at Morrisons in a month I think greed is the answer.
  • Micra Running Problem 6 May 2007 (Forum)
My 1.0 1994 Micra is running very rough, this mainly happens at over 30 mph and it seems to be a fuel supply problem as it will be ok and then be very jerky, when you put your foot to the floor nothing happens to the accelaration, the injection fuse is ok but the fuel filter looks like the original, car has 70K on clock and uses Esso all the time however it does very low mileages maybe 50 a week, any advice would be appreciated, would it be prudent to change the fuel filter and give it a dose of injector cleaner .
  • 406 fuel gauge prob 22 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi i have a 2001 406 estate, The problem is with the fuel guage. It behaves very eraticly, basicly it just does what it likes from telling me theres nothing in it then its three quarters full.I have been told that the prob can sometimes be solved by having the BSI reset, how would i get this done (if i can).Everything else seems o.k just wondered if anyone else had had the same prob and if so if they found a fix .Thanks in advance for any help, cheers.
  • 306td Bleeding Fuel System 3 Oct 2006 (Forum)
hi, '94 306td just had head rebuilt and replaced after seized tensioner. could anyone tell me if there is a bleed nipple on the bosch fuel pump for removing air from the system? i know there is on a lucas pump, but not sure with the bosch. basically it is taking a long time to turn over and fire which i know is air in the system as you can see it in the clear pipes. i have cracked off the injectors and turned it over for awhile which has helped improve things but thee's still air there chris.
  • Scenic 2 trip computer warning 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Have had warning on trip computer for a couple of days; "catalytic coverter" and "service" orange warning lights illuminated and computer message to "check emissions". Fuel tank was approx one quarter full. After filling fuel tank the warning disappeared. I wondered whether emissions warning was caused by dirty fuel in bottom of tank affecting the exhaust emissions or was the timing of the warning clearing, a spooky coincidence.
  • 1.9TD XUD fuel filter draining 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Just been browsing the Haynes manual for my car (Citroen Xsara), and apparently I'm supposed to be regularly draining the fuel filter. Aha, says I, that's what that little hose is for. Now, according to the book, I unscrew the little valve and wait until diesel free of water emerges from the hose. Except nothing comes out, even if you completely remove the drain plug.
  • Why be bothered about fuel consumption? 5 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I was wondering why people get so worried about fuel consumption and less concerned about other costs for the car that negate any saving? It seems a lot of people buy a diesel but dont think about either depreciation or cost of servicing, or just other general running costs.
  • F reg Espace fuel pump relay location? 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Had the RAC out who, although he got the car going, couldn't find the faulty relay. We are certain that the fuel pump has it's own relay somewhere...just don't know where. The Haynes manual is fairly useless as it doesn't even list it. RAC technical centre said there IS one but they could only offer 'It's near the headlight' - it wasn't.
  • VW noisy fuel injector 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Its loudness never fails to draw comment from passengers. The noise is coming from what I think is the fuel injector on the front top left of the engine. You can feel the tapping when you put a hand on it. I have heard that VW engineers say that this drumming noise is a "characteristic" of the engine and there's nothing that can be done about it!
  • BP Ultimate Fuel 11 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I suppose this fuel is intended to rival Shell Optimax. Filled up the other day with BP Ultimate diesel and noted that it was 6p a litre dearer than my usual Total. Only did it because we do not have the BP or Shell round our way.
  • 405 - Carb or fuel injection? 9 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Morning all I've just acquired a 93 Peugeot 405 1.6GL but have no idea whether it is fuel injected or not. I've had a quick gander under the bonnet and didn't see anything that looked like a carb (can't spell the full name!). Mind you, my technical knowledge is only slightly greater than HF's!
  • Shell Give You The Fuel For Free!! 26 May 2003 (Forum)
Just came back from a short trip to Iceland, where Shell have spent 250,000 (£ or $, not sure), installing their first real life hydrogen filling station. Suitably powered vehicles arrive next month & get the fuel free, for an unlimited trial period! It will be mainly busses & other public sevice cars/vans, initially, but still, perhaps a good idea, from a forward thinking government. Generally cost of living is double UK prices, but unleaded is about the same, with diesel just 1/2 our price!!
  • Vectra Fuel Filter 12 May 2003 (Forum)
A bit of a novice when it comes to DIY repairs! 1997 P reg Vectra 1.6 16V LS, 94000 miles, very hesitant under acceleration. Feels like a fuel flow problem, so decided to invest in a new filter. Had the car since new, but don't think the filter has ever been changed. Just one problem - don't seem to be able to find it! Does anyone know where it is located, before I go out and buy a workshop manual?
  • Storing fuel injectors 7 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have just had a Saab performance upgrade kit fitted to my 2.0 Saab 9-5 which consists of a new ECU plus a set of different fuel injectors. I plan on keeping the old ECU and injectors in case I decide to migrate back to the original setup (e.g. on change of car). My question is, what is the best way to store the injectors to avoid any problems when they are refitted (if ever)?
  • Accurate Fuel Guages 14 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Does any modern car have a really accurate fuel guage that can tell you, say, when you have 1 litre left in your tank? My Golf(Mk4) is supposed to have 55L capacity with the low warning light coming on with 7L left. I can always put in 51-52L if I fill as soon as it comes on.
  • Nissan X-Trail T31 diesel 150bhp - Consistence of fuel brands. 13 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Could not get more than 36.4 MPG and now I am down to 34.3 MPG. Question is this a common happening between East and West coast Fuel? What procedure do you follow to complain?  How can you prove that you have been sold the wrong type of fuel, when you have used it?
  • Ford Focus LX 1.6 TDCI - Fuel Rail Pressure Stuck at 600 Bar 5 Apr 2016 (Forum)
My Focus broke down tice over the weekend, the first time the diagnostics preformed by the AA showed up nothing but the fuel rail pressure was irratic. Took it into a garage on Saturday morning and they tole me taht the Crank Sensor was the problem and fixed it, happy day as that was cheap. Completed over 400 miles in it and it cuts out at a red light.
