  A very small woman in a very large 4X4 backed it into my Outback this morning but her car had a large tow bar assembly sticking out of its backside and the damage to my car is not insignificant. Surely it is not beyond the ken of the motor industry to devise a towing arrangement that is flush with the back of the vehicle.

  My AUTOMATIC Jeep has a knocking noise even when I go in a straight line ? and is now a no go. Will I be able to get it towed to a garage 2 miles away. thanks

  If your car breaks down on a 'No stopping' road and the police get a contractor to tow it away then does the contractor have any legal right to charge you for this (and storage). After all, their contract is actually with the local police force and not the car owner.

  I have searched previous threads and the most relevant comment I found was from Darren on 25/2/04 when he said "If towing caravan, torque is everything".....please enlarge on this. My son's car is an Octavia 1.9tdi. I have no experience of turbo. What bearing does turbo have, if any, when towing? Thanks in anticipation of Backroomer's help....as ever!

  I'm thinking of the type of frame where the bike front wheel is off the ground and firmly fixed into a frame which is bolted to the towing hitch plate.  The bike rear wheel follows the car. Is it legal to move a motorbike this way?

  Our caravan weighs 1600kg unladen, so I was wondering what the best cars that do not cost and arm and a leg may be to tow it with.  I had a Mondeo previously that could tow 1800kg.  Wondering if I should go for same but estate this time (not many about), or try for something different like Skoda Superb. Any caravan owners have other thoughts.

  Hi there, I've done a bit of Googling for this, but haven't got anywhere. I've always wondered how the towing capacity of a vehicle is calculated by the vehicle manufacturer. I believe that it is a function of gradability, and to a lesser extent, engine power, but are any other criteria specific to the vehicle taken into account?

  i recently made a mistake with a recent vehicle purchase - basically despite reviews , specs and research; upon towing my caravan for the first time, the engine struggled.  I now have to sell the vehicle and buy another.  However a) I don't want to make the same mistake next time & b) I'm confused by the reviews regarding towing vehicles.

  NOBODY seems to be able to sell either. Audi say they don't do a roof rack because its the glass roof version. Audi say they can't fit a tow bar because his A2 hasn't got air conditioning!!*.   I'm looking for a car to replace my diesel guzzling Nissan Terrano II. I'm looking for a 2 litre diesel capable of towing 1.5 - 2 tons. I was initially thinking of the Freelander TD4 but the write up on this site has put me off a bit due to poor reliability record. Any recommendations ?? Steve

  Can anyone please suggest a reliable place to get a tow bar fitted to a Nissan Note near Walthamstow in east London. Local Nissan dealer wants over £500 which seems crazy - anyone used a firm in the nearish vacinity - happy to travel for a good place.
