Cheap, reliable new diesel car 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
My first instinct is to go an lease a Mondeo TDCi but as I haven't been trading long and don't have audited accounts yet leasing at reasonable cost would be tricky, so really I'm going to have to buy it. It really needs to be brand new, 100bhp+ diesel engine but ideally more, have a decent sized boot, decent kit and be comfortable as it'll do at least 35k a year. Good fuel economy and reasonably priced main dealer servicing is important and it will quite likely be used to tow a ligh trailer at some stage. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 TD - Delayed Turbo, fuel delivery problem? 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
When he came back the idle was unsteady, it was smokey, there was a lack in power, slow to rev, poor MPG e.t.c. I have changed the fuel filter, blead the fuel system, checked for air in the fuel system, cleaned egr valve, used injector cleaner in the fuel e.t.c. I have noticed that instead of the turbo coming in at around 1500-2000 rev's as it should, it comes on at 4000-4500 rev's, when this happens it runs like a dream until the rev's drop below 2000 rev's and then there appears to be no boost again. -
Mercedes Diesel Timing Chain 21 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The small job of changing the O ring seals on the low pressure fuel pipes of a Mercedes diesel has turned into a big one. After changing the seals, I asked SWMBO to start the car while I worked the disconnected throttle lever on the injector pump. When the fuel got through, and the engine fired, it sounded more like something Fred Dibnah would be proud of than the nice smooth 6 cylinder rumble I was expecting to hear as reward for my work. -
Cash Back Motoring (5PencePerMile) 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Reduce fuel duty by 40 pence per litre What I want is a 40 pence/litre ?average? reduction in fuel duty as a way of getting us to drive more economically. That's right; reduce the cost of fuel to encourage us to use less of it. -
Second hand diesels - misfuelled? 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
If there are tens of thousands misfuels each year, does that mean that there are tens of thousands of used diesel on the market waiting to cause the new owner endless grief? It just seems a bit excessive to buy new solely on the ground to ensure it has had the right fuel. Any light shed would be most helpful. -
Skoda Octavia vs VW Passat - Skoda Octavia vs VW Passat? 21 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I've narrowed it down to one of the above. Which would you go for and why? I'm after a diesel automatic with reasonable running costs/fuel consumption, and looking to spend around £10k max (second hand) but I'm not sure which... Thanks :) -
Vauxhall Zafira - New Zafira 1.9 Auto - do you recommend it? 5 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I am looking into getting a new Vauxhall Zafira 1.9 diesel (120bhp) automatic. What are your views? I know it is heavy on fuel compared to manual version but just fancy an automatic and this is within my price range. Thanks in advance for any replies -
Sheep Time Again!!! 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Seems that some ploker saw the fire on the TV (ignoring the fact that the place doesn't just store gasoline but diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel) and paniced. Sheep mentality set in and others started doing the same. Why? Andy -

Ford Kuga - No turbo boost at high RPM 8 Jul 2019 (Forum)
The car will accelerate very slowly like an 1.0 litre petrol engine. In the morning when the problem occurred I filled with fuel and I remember the fuel indicator on dashboard didn't updated with the new level straight away. It took around one hour to slowly increase the fuel level indicator. Could there be some problems in fuel tank that affects this and also the fuel pump? -
Ford Focus Ghia 1.8 TDCi Mk1 2003 - Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi Glow Plug Light Flashing 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I checked the injectors by turning the engine over and seeing whether fuel dribbles out of them, and they seem fine, leading me to believe the Fuel Pump is the cause of the issue. I'll be taking it to a diesel specialist today to get an idea of price. So, what do you think of my diagnosis, and has anyone got any idea how much it will be to have the fuel pump replaced? -
Peugeot 407 SW 2.0HDi Auto (4 speed) 2005 - 136bhp - Onboard computer reading 45mpg real MPG 27mpg 9 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I've taken it to an independent garage and they couldn't find anything wrong. No fuel leaks, no diagnostic errors. It was fully serviced after the second tank of fuel, but the fuel economy has not really improved as the third tank where I got only 30mpg included a long trip, including motorway from Shrewsbury to Banbury. -
Vectra 2.0 Di sluggish from cold, please help 6 Mar 2002 (Forum)
This was temporarily cleaned, the system bled and more fuel put in the tank and the car started fine. I replaced the fuel filter the following day and we've not had a problem for a few weeks now until a couple of days ago. Upon starting one afternoon the car ran sluggishly (and sounded more diesel like!) -
Mazda 6 Tourer - Petrol or Diesel 18 Aug 2017 (Forum)
The difference in purchase price is C.£2000 between diesel and petrol. The road tax is the same on both. Based on HJs Real MPG it suggests 39.1MPG in the petrol or 48.9MPG in the diesel. That equates to about £400 per year less fuel cost in the diesel at current rates. -
Mazda 6 Tourer - Engine Malfunction 6 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Their is no smoke or odd sounds. I have read about similar issues that have proved to be blocked fuel filters or issues with Diesel Particulate Filter. Can anyone tell me if Mazda are taking the p$@s? -

Peugeot Boxer - Peugeot Boxer 1.9 - Smoking issues 14 May 2011 (Forum)
Hi Guys Hope someone can help. I have a 1998 Pug Boxer 1.9 (non Turbo) Diesel 270 SWB and on start up it has excessive greyish/whiteish smoke with a very strong smell of fuel. When the engine gets up to temp this does die down a bit but does not go away altogether. Could this be an injector fault? -
