• Vauxhall Corsa C - Intermittent battery charging issue 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
  I have not yet seen the light come on or go off while in transit so if you start the car and it's not on, you know the battery is being charged and your fine for the journey (just don't stop unless you are leaving it for an hour). If you start and the light comes on you know the battery isn't being charged and you had better either be close to home or fine somewhere to pull over.

  No problems for the first two months, then when my partner was away for the weekend she was under the impression that the battery was flat as it wouldn't start. She tried jump leads, but that didn't work, but a friendly person with some break experience got it started. Checked the battery and alternator and believed they were fine, but didn't mention or spot an issue with the immobiliser.

  I have subsequently removed the battery and put it on charge to rule out power supply problems. I also tried turning the car over with jump leads from the negative terminal of the battery to the engine and chassis as well as having the jump leads connected to another car battery (as if jump starting) There were no warning lights displayed on the dash at anytime.

  I duly replaced the coil-pack, HT leads, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor (there was evidence of arcking on the rotor and 2 of the HT leads) I still endured the non start on cold/wet days ( in the dry no problems...) I had the battery checked by a well-known motor accessory store it showed that the battery was at 13.5 volts but only 47% starting capacity. I had found that the car would start by using a "boost pack" so using that finding I replaced the battery today (24/11/09) after charging the "new" battery for an hour (one never knows how long the batteries are laying "dormant" in the stores for) the car momentarily showed signs of its old tricks i.e not starting then lo n behold she fired up.

  Thought of Lexus hybrid as well but also worried about the flat battery issue as well.

  Battery charger seems to be failing. Hit and miss output, and its charging level lights don’'t very often show. Up till now its seemed OK. No choice anyway, since it was the only one I could find when I bought it… The metal case isn’t earthed, but that is only disturbing to foreigners.

  Could you please advise if the radio is supposed to switch off after a few minutes with the engine off to conserve the battery charge.

  Since the incident the engine warning light is illuminated when the card is inserted and after about 10 seconds a warning light comes on saying "battery low start engine", since then I charged the battery using a battery charger until the charger said fully charged and then tried to start the engine again, still nothing and then same error message.

  Hello everyone, The fuel gauge of my Vauxhall Astra H 1.6 is reading empty even though it is half full. Yesterday I had to take my battery out and charge it (Bad connections on stereo I suspect, I usually take my stereo out when I turn the car off, but the past few days i've left it in and now the battery is dead, not the first time it's happened).

  Hi Guys, So I jump started my friends ford Fiesta Zetec as his battery completely died, and before doing so my VW Golf was giving me around 75 - 80 MPG on the motorway, even in cold. Straight away after using my car to jumpstart his, I think it has had an adverse affect on my cars battery/alternator/fuel injectors?

  The next try it would start. When trying to start it tries to turn engine but does one try as if there was a flat battery. Sunday it would not start, got green flag out and he said flat battery. I was not 100% convinced but put a new battery on. Tuesday stared first time drove for a mile and stopped the. Would not start again.

  Hi, I recently had my alternator changed, but not the battery. Now the battery crapped out recently, and I've had it replaced, the downside, the chap replaced it at the side of the road. Now everything is fine except for my electric windows. The switch is two steps down, two steps up, so a slight push (one click) allows me to manually operate them, while a full push (two clicks) makes them go down all the way on their own, the same for up (1 click = up manually, two click = up automatically all the way).

  However, it always starts readily when cold (within a couple of seconds) and can then be turned off and restarted several times without hesitation. When symptoms first appeared intermittently a few weeks ago, I had the battery (3+ years old) and charging tested with the engine hot - all was reported OK. Unfortunately (?) there were no symptoms on that occasion. So which is more likely - bad battery and bad battery test, or lazy starter motor when hot?

  My other half started his micra tonight to go to work, felt the battery maybe a bit lazy but it started ok - he drove about 100 yards and it cut out. Struggled to re-start it and then the engine light came on. He stopped engine to see whether the engine light would reset but then it wouldn't restart as battery had flattened.

  Looking for some help here guys , have got a 2003 307sw 2.0 hdi (90). For the past few months it has been a pig to start , thought it was the battery , tested it it was only giving out below 12v. so grand went a changed it and it barely started with the new battery , again thought it probably just needs a spin to get the battery up to optimum charge.

  Any suggestions? Is it most likely to simply be needing a new battery (ill put a new alternator belt on anyway - heard it squeezing a little)
• Bump starting problem 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
  In a car park yesterday I came across a father and daughter pushing a car along, and struggling. They were pushing it right across the car park to where they had an extension lead and battery charger, and being a generous soul I offered to help push it for a bump start. The battery wasn't completely dead (dash lights came on etc), but the engine would only run for a second or two and then stopped.

  My 1996 1.8 Endura-engined Diesel Fiesta has always taken a while to turn over ever since I bought it a year ago, but it is particularly bad in the cold weather. A 'fast fit' type centre recently told me my battery needed replacement, however a friend with a DIY type charger showed the battery as still being in a reasonable condition. So it could be the battery. However, something I have noticed is that I have never heard the diesel heater in operation whilst I am waiting for the orange glow light to go out on the dash, which generally stays on for around 5 - 10 seconds.

  Hi, intermittent starting problem with my '95 Passat TD. Turning the starter sometimes it will start instantly, other times symptoms of completely flat battery. Starter clicks, dashboard lights go hay-wire, clock & trip meter reset to zero & electric windows start to come down!! Suspect poor earth somewhere ? Battery OK, have removed and cleaned battery leads and all obvious earth connections around engine bay.

  Hi, My Astra wouldn't start today out of the blue. Called out the RAC who jump started it then it proceded to splutter a bit with battery light & engine lights flickering and no power steering. After stopping it and jump starting it again things seemed to go back to normal, so I drove home being followed by the RAC man. When I arrived home and turned it off it started again no problems, the RAC guy tested the battery again and it seemed to be fine.
