  I have, which apart from an excellent driving position and ease of entry for an 18 stone, 6ft 2" person with athritic left knee, what must be one of Britains poorest made vehicles - a 1986 Landrover Discovery. As a result of a flat battery in Nov 98 Garage diagnosed a faulty alternator and replaced. This did no good and in Jan 99 had to buy a HD Battery. Feb 01 battery again flat and would not hold charge. Auto Electricians checked vehicle electrical equipment and said they detected no unusual leakage while vehicle was parked.

  Many many support forums are listed with customers being told many things but not the truth. In simple terms the AGM battery needs more volts to charge and a 12 Volt battery is more or less flat at 10.5 volts getting the battery to charge needs a special charger with a recovery mode. The Fully Charged AGM battery will show 13 + Volts.

  Lately I have had a couple of problems with my C3. Just after Christmas the battery warning light came on, so I had a new battery fitted. However, about a week later the warning light came back on, so I returned to the garage and they replaced the battery again. They ran a check on the first replacement battery and told me that it checked out fine and that the alternator was OK too.

  I am considering fitting a new alternator drive belt, then cleaning up battery terminals before looking at the battery. If you have a voltmeter can you test battery and alternator function by putting it across the terminals and it should be 12 volts or more as the engine increases?
