  • Mercedes Benz - Artico trim 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I've got mixed feelings about having leather seats in my next car. The leather in my S80 has been very easy to clean the dog hairs off, but despite being a light colour and heated seats, it's still cold in winter and hot in summer. Is Mercedes ARTICO man-made leather any better?
  • BMW 318 i 99 model auto 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Please Help. Car when hot or cold and with a/c off seem to vibrate and nearly cut out but never does, vibration increases and idle speed drops further when turning with heated screen on, with a/c on vibration falls away as idle speed is raised.
  • External Temperature Sensor 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I have always wondered this (I should find my interesting things to think about really)... How can the external air temperature sensor be accurate? Surely the heat from the engine and wind chill make it inaccurate. Also where is the sensor typically placed? It was very cold this morning, but I'm not convinced it was -2c like my car said!
  • VW Golf mkII Heater fan stopped 28 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The car heater fan has stopped working. Its been cutting out for a couple of weeks, but has now finally given up the ghost. Its not the fuse, and the heat still comes through, so its just the fan. Can anybody advise me what I should do?

  • More efficient propulsion 6 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I suspect it will be BMW however and to be fair to them their efficient dynamics packages should be present on all cars as a licensed technology or manufacturers own derivative. What ideas do other members have for improving our cars for efficiency?
  • Audi A4 - Audi A4 1.8T BFB single cylinder misfire 18 Jan 2025 (Forum)
i have an audi a4 2004 1.8t that i recently bought, the car has a misfire on cylinder 2  so i replaced the coilpack and the problem went away but only when the car is static, asin not moving and engine running it has no misfire but when you put the car under load after 2000rpm cylinder 2 has a dead misfire, no stuttering or hesitation just goes completly dead, i have ruled out that its not the piston rings as it dosnt smoke i would need to do a compresion test to confirm but im pretty confident it isnt that i know its not a stuck valve as its not constant its only under hard acceleration, i have replaced the coil packs and spark plugs also i checked the coil wires that sit above the exhaust as they are known for splitting due to the heat of the exhaust, cylinder 2 had 2 wires that had the outer case breaking away but not damaged the wire to what i could see so i eletrical taped them to see if the problem persists, which it did. is it the wires that are causing me the misfire, is there damage that i cant see thats caused by the heat and the wires actually need repairing

  • Last mainstream car with front drum brakes? 8 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Clearing some junk out of the shed last night, I came across a set of brake shoes for a long-extinct Vauxhall Viva - front shoes, that is. The car was an early 'HC' model - '72 'J'-reg - but it got me wondering when did the last mainstream car roll off the production line sporting front drum brakes? I remember the ones on the Viva were dreadful, BTW :-)
  • 500 - Fiat 500 wiring loom failure 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
The more it is used the earlier the wiring will fracture and break, for instance, daily use for shopping or letting a dog in and out. The main dealer solution to this car was a £600 fit of a new wiring loom. However, with a little patience there is a simple repair that costs about a £1. First, pull some loom through the gaitor from the C pillar., then remove the internal tailgate pressed board cover to reveal the wiring connections, disconnect the two rear heated window connections, the rearwiper motor connection and undo the rear lock which allow you to pull some loom through from the tailgate.

  • Troubled conscience 14 May 2005 (Forum)
I put about 5 litres of darkish filtered recognisable oil into my paraffin drum for use in oil lamps when the electricity takes a holiday. So I was left with about 20 litres of crystal clear heating oil which occuped every spare closeable vessel in the garage by the time I had finished. Did I wait until the new plastic domestic oil tank arrives? Er, no, I added it to the 40 litres of diesel already in my car's fuel tank.
  • Why are cooled seats not a more common option? 5 Dec 2019 (Forum)
So ever since basically the start of September we've been hitting a daily average of about 28 to 35 degrees Celsius, and it's going to stay like that till roughly April, which means that the majority of our year  However I recently been looking into buying a new car for the wife and everyone seems to heated seats, no I mean they're probably really good in climates where it gets cold, but when the average winter temperature here really gets below about 10 degrees in most of the country, and even in the coldest parts it only get 2 maybe -5, it seems that for about the 3% of the country that gets really cold, heated seats and not much of a selling point.
