Audi RS4 - Faulty RS4 out of 9 months in the garage for 4 31 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Mid-June 2010, the new Gearbox sump plug had been left off… and the new gearbox whined itself to an early end as well as the engine still sounding and running rough, in addition to various niggles (parking sensors, aircon problems). 6 weeks encounting, bad customer service, slow action by the Finance company (Audi VW Finance) and I’m still struggling to get my issue resolved. -
Drove a few cars yesterday 10 May 2009 (Forum)
The most impressive thing about the car is undoubtedly the engine, which is smooth, quick and has almost diesel like low down torque. I run it on Tesco 99 RON super unleaded, which I feel results in noticeably more power than standard 95 RON unleaded. The car suffers with excessive road noise / tyre roar but the engine is quiet at motorway speeds (70 mph = 2500 revs in 6th). -
Picked up the Scenic today.... 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It's smooth, very responsive and pulls well from 1500 RPM or so. It's the refinement of the thing that gets me though - it's hard to believe this and the Mondeo run on the same fuel. The Renault engine is a little clattery under load when cold, but once warm it's smoother and quieter than the 1.6 petrol we also drove and in a different league to the admittedly olde worlde Mondeo. -
Bikesafe ramble 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The knowledge that I hadn't made a total cock-up of the ride so far helped me relax and, barring some nervous horses in Helmsley and a Peugeot driver who U-turned in front of me near Chop Gate, the rest of the run was completed without incident at, erm, slightly more than the nsl. We did over 80 miles in a little under 2 hours including a 10 minute stop for a review and advice so we weren't hanging about. As I headed for the A1 and home, the sky darkened and so much rain fell that my vision was affected so I stopped for a choccy bar and a drink under a petrol station canopy. -
It's muscle car time again 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
We took it down the taxiway of the Clark Airbase here at last Sunday's drag meet and were most impressed. The airfield is Asia's largest and was extended for B-52 bombing runs over 'Nam, so you can really wind your car up. I want it dyno-ed as soon as I can, the torque is phenomenal. Lovely paint, pristine interior, all very clean and tidy. All original except for a Denso a/c compressor. -
Talk me out of buying an X-Type... 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I quite like the external look of the car particularly the sport version. It will be quite expensive to run but I'm not too concerned about that. As a status symbol I quite like the X-Type it's a bit understated and (I feel) allows me to show off a bit without actually doing it overtly. Basically I can't find anything I really don't like about it. -
Am i paranoid about oil changes 30 May 2004 (Forum)
The service periods and charges are the same for both vehicles, but I have to ask myself whose oil will be in the better condition when service time comes. I may be wrong but I can not see any harm being done after the three year warranty has run out in stretching the yearly service to at least 18 months when I will have covered approximately 5000 Miles I should point out that the £82 service is a oil change service only, no other work is done, the special oil and filter is £45 the rest is a labour charge. -
Unmarked Police Cars Driving Illegally 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Followed by long lecture "blah blah blah ive a good mind to get a traffic officer down her to charge you and take you to court, remove your license blah blah blah but this time i'll just give you the verbal warning you be grateful for that sonny" I struggled to bite my tongue but realised that i was far better off grovelling and accepting a slapped wrist. NOW THEN :- Can unmarked police cars run red lights? Do they not need to indicate? Are they immune to the offence of tailgating? And headlight defects? IF he had pushed this to a charge, surely my (entirely accurate and truthful) account would get this charge quashed? -
news from the states 5 Sep 2001 (Forum)
House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) and the American Civil Liberties Union say cameras violate constitutional privacy and due process rights. "There is only one answer to the so-called red-light running crisis," Armey testified before a House Transportation Subcommittee on July 31. "It's called sound engineering. It's called putting cops on the beat in the midst of our community to do their job." -
2004 Pontiac GTO - Motor Trend review 7 Dec 2003 (Forum)

Car accident insurance advice 29 Jan 2018 (Forum)
The above case confirms that if a driver of a lead vehicle unexpectedly stops the driver of the following vehicle may not be at all at fault for running into the back of the stopping vehicle. In Gussman v Gratton-Storey the Defendant applied her brakes violently in order to avoid hitting a pheasant running across the road. -
Letter Fom The Colonies Vol 11 14 Mar 2005 (Forum)
It would be indecorous of me to mention that my back-riding companion suffers from wedgies on long runs, So I won't. But the chicken strips on the Metzelers show enough wear to get a bit of respect down at my local. That's what separates the men from the boys and the real stuff from those (what d'you call 'em?) -
Ford Fiesta 1.4L Titanium Automatic 2011 - 2011 Ford Fiesta 1.4L Automatic Undercharging 23 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I've got a 2011 Ford Fiesta which i have had since new - but as a low mileage driver i have only clocked up 19k miles in 10 years. Everything was running fine with no issues until we were into the latest lockdown and i didn't drive the car for about 3 weeks. The battery went dead. I called out the breakdown guys who gave it a jump start but when it was revved it kept cutting out - so they tested the battery and alternator and said they thought it was the alternator as it was undercharging under revs. -
2006 Mercedes CLK 200 Kompressor Cabrio - High days and holidays car, a report 5 Jan 2020 (Forum)
What really surprised us was the fuel economy which came in at a shade over 40mpg and that figure has since been replicated on a long run down to Suffolk and back from here in Scotland. I'm glad I got the supercharged 1.8 engine because it's an absolute peach. The Mercedes blurb describes it as an attempt to get the smooth silky charachteristics of a 6 pot motor but with the advantages of a lighter and more economical 4 pot and they're not wrong. -
Bangernomics 22 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Running a car on a very low budget can be done reliably with a bit care and possibly a dose of good luck. It’s something I’ve done for many years and I’ve also helped friends and customers do it. The smug feeling that comes from beating the system is every bit as good as the joy of having some expensive new car on your drive as long as image isn’t a major concern. -
Cash allowance + vehicle age policy = confusion 7 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Seeking a bit of class, comfort and economy, on my 1.5hr commute to work each day (on a good run). ----------------------- Cars interested in: Audi A5 MB C-Class MB C-Class coupe (C220d probably for economy) My father keeps banging on that I should just get a Skoda Superb and stop thinking about such fancy cars, so I'm adding that to the list for his benefit - although I appreciate it's good bang for your buck. -
BMW 1 Series - Where do I legally stand - Car Repairs 30 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hello All, I've got a question with regards to my car and its repairs. Basically, what happened earlier this week was I drove my car to the mechanics for him to run a full diagnostics and see whether there were any problems as the yellow light on the dashboard came on, immediately I drove it to the garage to solve the problem. The mechanic ran a full diagnostics on the car and said my chain is showing signs of wear and tear which will need to be replaced. -
Ford Mondeo - Purchase nightmare! 28 May 2015 (Forum)
I gave the car a once over whilst visiting and soon discovered the oil level was not showing on the dipstick and the temp gauge rose to 90degrees after 5mins of the engine running at idle! Not good. The air-con does not work either and the remote key has to be used manually to unlock the car even with a new battery. Following my inspection of the vehicle I called ‘we sell car finance’ myself to discuss the matter. -
Ford Focus Saloon - Ford Focus TDCI 55 Plate Rain/Electrical issue? 15 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The battery was never dead instead it had an 8 volt drain on it somewhere which was cleared after disconnecting it for 5 seconds. Start the car and everything runs fine, alternator is putting out nearly 14 volts, all instruments and lights work so we gingerly drive home. We get home mostly without incident except for the power steering light showing for about 10 seconds (even though steering felt fine for that time) and then a random stall just after leaving a toll booth.
