  • Pay up or involve insurance? 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I didn't think there was any damage to my car and I made that comment at the time. The bumper of her car had a jagged crack about 5 or 6 inches long on the horizontal flat bit (running the same way as the bumper) and obviously the paintwork was damaged around the crack, although only a little. Because of the way the car is made though, the bumper panel is a whole big thing not just a little section that could be replaced.
  • help! big problems with 306 HDI engine 3 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Changed the water pump easily, secured all back properly with gasket sealent, then proceded to put the old cambelt (only done 3000miles on it) back on, measuring the tension by turning the belt 45 degrees on the longest run, and then securing the tensioner. Next we cleaned the camshaft pullet bolt, and applied some loctite threading compound, we then put the pulley back on properly with and tightened the bolt to the specified torque.
  • Accident, but Ins. policy cancelled 3 Mar 2005 (Forum)
She does not recall receiving any written correspondence from them, and she did not receive any refund of the premium (which was paid in advance in April - I have seen the policy which indicates cover was to run from April 2004 to April 2005). They say that they consequently cancelled her policy on 15 December 2004. Ann has only found out about this as a result of the accident taking place. She has been asked to produce her insurance documents at the police station and now doesn't know what to do.
  • Where do I go from here? More Ins probs 6 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Today I spent nearly an hour on the phone with my broker trying to sort out my insurance renewal and sort out best course of action for some changes in the near future, basically am now bald and no wiser! Has anyone here found a way round my problem, legally. Facts are:- I run a 91 Fiesta, suits perfectly for my 2-3000 miles p.a. round town, with 9+ NCD, no convictions etc. and have been offered renewal at £150ish. So far, so good. In April No1 son will be 17 and has expressed an interest in learning to drive, purely and simply to save poor old Dad having to go out and pick him up from work five nights a week at 10pm.
  • Bullitt Mk 2 is back 6 Jul 2004 (Forum)
We already rebuilt the front end with new track rod ends, shocks etc when I got it. Mustangs tend to run hot, so I'll be watching that. There's a lot of engine under there and not a lot of radiator. Had to do with design and appearance considerations I guess. Will reg it next week and then take it up North on the newly rehabilitated tollway (superb surface built by Leighton Australia) to see what it can do.
  • Garage problems - legal advice needed 14 Jun 2004 (Forum)
We decided that they would provide us with a courtesy car and take our Renault indefinitely until the problem was rectified. This would allow them to discover the fault by running it day to day and hopefully repair it. Three weeks later we get the car back and they claimed to have found the fault and repaired it. A month later the problems surface again. This time we call them and they send a mechanic round to the house to look at the car.

  • Nissan Leaf - Leafing my wallet alone! 18 Apr 2025 (Forum)
A good used Nissan Leaf at under £15,000 can make for an excellent commuter car or taxi. It costs buttons to run, the fuel is (currently) free and there’s hardly any moving parts to go wrong. The only service item listed by Nissan is the brake fluid which should be changed every 3yrs according to the schedule.
  • Bought a car - and its not a new Focus 19 Jan 2020 (Forum)
So we had the service car for a couple of hours and despite being only the 95 ps version it was fine. He took us out for a very short run in the used 115 version which seemed quite a bit quicker and was better equipped and back at the showroom worked out a price to change of £9000. Considering it has quite a bit of extra kit on it (over £1000 at a guess – price when new was over £17000) and our Focus is 12 next year that seemed fair but after a bit of discussion he included next April's service (saving us about £260) and a set of very nice fitted mats (£60).

  • Toyota Auris Touring Sports - Auris TS hybrid test drive 13 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Some observations: Living in Devon we inevitably went up and down some hills. The B mode seemed to work brilliantly. Our current manual saab would have run away with itself but the B kept the car in check nicely. Going uphill the car seemed to cope fine. I was keen to hear how noisy it was under heavy acceleration - it wasn't nearly as bad as I had been expecting.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa C won’t start first attempt, but will second 28 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Felt like I was in 5 th when I was in 2 nd (after about 2000RPM) – to give you an idea of the power loss. Took her to the garage, they run all their diagnostics, don’t find anything, test drive, know there’s a problem but can’t diagnose, 70quid for nothing. No warning lights on or anything like that. Change the oil and spark plugs and take her for a good spin out of the country.
  • I bought a lemon! Trader doesn't want to know! 29 Mar 2014 (Forum)
He said yes and that he will try and get it fixed before I arrived. When I arrived the engine was running and the car was driving ok. He was driving, we went to a car park and I looked the car over checked the VIN numbers and did a HPI check. One of the doors didn’t open and there was a crack in the front grille.
  • honda - fine for not SORNing vehicle when I have. 7 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I sent the form with the tax disc (it had just under 2 months left)so now I have no tax disc and the tax runs out this month so cant claim a refund now. Im assuming either royal mail have lost it or more likely the DVLA which means Ive also lost that tax refund which I was really relying on as I have no income at the moment.
  • Landrover freelander - total loss non fault accident 19 Sep 2012 (Forum)
It's now approaching 9 months later and I have opened a personal injury claim owing to my broken bones, loss of earnings etc which has been running since February and the third party insurer has thus far refused to acknowledge this. Failing to respond to a pre action disclosure, refusing to respond to any attempts at a dialogue etc. I'm approaching my limits.
  • Peugeot 405 GL 1991 (carb) - Engine Cooling fans not working 4 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I think because of the differences in Peugeot engines, I cannot entirely relate the diagrams in the Haynes manual to my car. For now, I have inserted a wire from under the dashboard with a switch attached to run the fan manually when the temperature approaches 80 degrees. I am an Electrical Engineer by profession, that is why I have been able to delve into the practical of the engine myself. I also cannot locate the Bitron sensor - if my car even has it.
  • Extended Test Drive of a BMW 520d 9 Apr 2012 (Forum)
If you are paying your own fuel, the BMW is significantly better than the Audi (according to trip computers). The Audi was about 40MPG, the BM about 55MPG with 55MPG easily shown on an 80MPH motorway run. So, decision time after 600 miles in the BMW and similar number in the Audi A6 S-Line. I went into the Audi expecting little but it over delivered. I went into the BMW expecting a lot and it under delivered.
  • Vauxhall Corsa - Pls help! Rear ended a car that suddenly stopped 8 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I asked if he was the driver of the BMW, he told us that his wife was the driver only after I asked him many times. He turned out to be calling the police, telling them that we were trying to run away. He also told the police that his wife was traumatized by the crash. I asked him why the car stopped there suddenly, and he just retorted that the brake lights were on.
