  • Rover 416 98 R Tourer Radio Display CD 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have just purchased an R 98 tourer but the clock radio display on the dash does not function properly. I have currently replaced the old tape player with an old sony cd player for the time being but have some questions as I like my cars to remain original and with factory fitted equipment: 1. Will any clock/radio display work with any of the Rover CD head units?

  • Citroen C8/Pug 806 any feedback? 8 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I am at last persuaded by my 15-year-old and 7-year-old sons that my trusty 1996 Synergie should be consigned to history at 115K miles, and replaced with a C8 2.2 HDi 6-speed. Having driven one recently, I am sorely tempted. Anyone think any different?
  • Proof of NCD - Help! 29 Jun 2004 (Forum)
My broker has promised twice on the phone that they would get a proof of NCD sent out to me and nothing has materialised. The new InsCo claim that when they phoned my old company they said the policy was still in force. They are now asking for more money as they think I'm using the NCD on another policy. Where can I go from here? The broker of the previous policy was told I was not intending to renew with them, I have made no payment to them and have no other car to insure but how do I prove this to my new InsCo and get the relevant info out of the old one before I have to cough up another couple of hundred?
  • Creaking Passat Dash 20 Jun 2004 (Forum)
When I go around a bend the dash creaks and groans like mad. The car is just over two years old. I've tried a few of the old tricks, for example, being liberal with the Pledge and turning the CD player up but it still persists. At first I though it was related to the steering column but having finally located the cause (by driving around a bend and reaching forward and pressing the dashboard down where it meets the windscreen in front of me) I'm fairly sure that it is the dash.
  • Volvo 960 Air Con 8 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Anyone have access to a circuit diagram that shows where all the sensors are located ? Any information would be appreciated. It's been a splendid car, and still is, save the air con problems - which must be fixable, surely ? Thanks, Old Nick
  • Two Strokes - the sequel 5 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The latest edition of Practical Classics has a feature on two-strokes, and also an article about a magnificent vintage style car powered by a Commer opposed-piston two-stroke diesel. One interesting point from the article - apparently the reason the Ford Ka ended up with the old all-iron crossflow motor which dated back to the Ford Anglia was that it was designed around a compact new two-stroke motor.
  • Does new consumer rights act 2015 apply to my car? 21 Nov 2015 (Forum)
First post - apologies if this is not the right place. I purchased a new car (Vauxhall Astra).  The car was registered on 30 Sept, but I didn't pick it up from the dealer (& part exchange my old car) until October 2nd.  It now has a major intermittent fault which started in the first 2 weeks and which was attempted to be repaired by the supplying dealer.

  • What new car make/model suffers least depreciation 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
HI guys, I have a 15 year old Clio which qualifies for scrappage and I'm looking for another car. While I wasn't planning to buy a brand new car - I now see this as the only opportunity to squeeze maximum value out of my existing car as on the secondhand market everyone wants it for free.
  • Older cars at auction? 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Dear Backroomers, I'm after a new car and I'm tempted to pick one up at auction, so I'm hoping to pick the collective brains of auction going backroomers. I'm aware that alot of cars at auction are 'direct' end of lease company cars and these are normally upto 3 years old.

  • 16 year old dies in collision with 4X4 [Read Only] 2 Nov 2009 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/y8qdebr "Most, 4 x 4 owners that I see are pretentious arrogant idiots, whose only experience of off - roading is when they accidentally mount the kerb at our local school car park scattering six year olds like ten pins". That is just one of the comments in reply to this tragic and very sad loss. I live in a rural area and have witnessed these 'off road' vehicles complete with bull bars driving at speed down narrow country lanes whilst secure in their large 4X4's.
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 2005 1.6 Exhaust System Warning Light 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
e.g. faulty Lambda probe. 3) Can the Warning Light only be reset electronically (garage/dealer) or would it go out if (only) the problem itself is rectified? I can't think of any related problems with the car. I've had it from 6 months old with 5,000 on the clock and am at 58,889 and nearly 3 years old. Previous service dealer as always and 'Long Life' last October at 41,255 miles. Cheers, Matt.
  • New MOT - interesting quirks 17 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I'm not sure how precisely he achieved this, but he said he could do any of the old tricks if he wanted, for favoured customers, and the new system was as wide open to abuse as the old. He could even fool the emissions section, simply by sticking the probe up the exhaust pipe of a known passable car rather than the one on test.

  • What happens to the rejected lemons? 17 Dec 2005 (Forum)
What happens to those new cars that customers successfully reject under warranty because of persistent faults etc? If they are re-sold does poor old Joe Public get to know the antecedents?
  • Cataclysmic converter 19 Dec 2003 (Forum)
My 10yr old car needed a new cat recently, though interestingly it wasn't because the matrix had collapsed or become contaminated but because the can had rotted through -- a good reason for cleaning the underbody during the winter !
