  • Citroen Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI 2003 model - engine temperature 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi  i have recently had problems with the cooling system whereby after a longish run the temp gauge will jump from normal too high position in the red the computer emits a stop engine temp too high message, the cooling fans are operating after letting the cooling fans stop and i check the coolant there is no loss whatsoever the system is not pressurising at all and the radiator is coldish all over as is the engine block the only hot area is the head wher the sender is located .. I have replaced the sensor and the thermostat and the radiator bled the system as appropriate with no success it just seems there is no circulation, and my thoughts are the water pump what can u suggest,, thanks John
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 03 2.0 Hdi 90 juddering when cold!! 12 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My 53 reg hdi 307 judders/chugs when cold, it seems to do it after a few mins driving and coming to a stop at a junction, when the engines warm it's fine, no loss in power no warning light, starts reasonably fine on a cold morning, changed an engine mount that had excesive play still no result the glow plugs are quite new only about 8-9 months old, trauled the forums and I'm thinking maybe the glow plug relay, or coolant temp sensor. Can anyone shed any light on this annoying problem? Cheers!

  • vw polo 1.4 - recall on polo 1.4 60 reg 24 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I bought a new vw polo 1.4 60 reg in October 2010, since then I've had two recalls on it. One for a coolant problem and the latest one is software. I took the car into the vw dealership on Tuesday 18th January to have the software problem fixed, I was told it would take an hour. I then received a phonecall to say the car had overheated and they would need to replace the head gasket so I wouldnt be able to pick it up till Thursday 20th January.

  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus 03 Ghia 1.8 TDCi - climate control dead 19 Nov 2010 (Forum)
No output at all, although the engine speed reaction is still there when the air con is turned on or off. The screen heaters still work, and the coolant is getting up to temp as normal. Resistors? Fuses? Switches? Anything particularly common that fails with this set up? Any help greatly appreciated. Graham
  • Clio Starting Problem 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I've searched the forum and someone had a similar problem when the engine was hot and fixed it by replacing the Coolant Temperature Sensor but my problem seems to occur mostly when the engine is cold. Could it still be the sensor that needs replacing or something else? It'd definitely getting fuel and I replaced the plugs and leads to try and fix the problem but it's no better.
  • Ford Transit 280 - 2005 MWB - engine Gone? 21 Mar 2010 (Forum)
The engine is making a loud banging, shaking noise like it constantly hitting something & there is a LOT of smoke coming from the exhaust when we accelerate (in neutral) we had a look at the engine, oil is fine, coolant etc all ok. but the engine is shaking like mad! The noise when it's revved rattles even more. It's going to be booked in tomorrow but wanted the heads up from you guys first. It's very difficult to explain but maybe i could emphasize on my explination after a few questions/answer from you lot.
  • Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.4 Overheating Engine 8 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have had the thermostat replaced, which seems to have worked by bringing the temperature gauge down....BUT.... The water in my coolant tank is boiling over if the engine is left running for a little while 5-10 mins.....I have looked at the engine and when it gets too hot the fan motor kicks in but the fan does not spin/turn....
  • Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 00 1.4 Very rough running & no power on cold start 28 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Try to drive anywhere and there's a lot of fumes and no power to get going properly. (Once the engine warms up, there's no problem at all and the car runs beautifully). I had the coolant temp sensor replaced a year ago which seemed to improve things slightly, but now the problem is back with a vengeance. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated! Cheers Chris
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 97 2.0 GTI - Engine component locations 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
    2) On the right hand side of the block (as you look from the front of the car) is a one wire temp sensor of some sort. What is it measuring Oil temp? Another Coolant temp Sensor? 3) On the intake manifold there is another one wire sensor on the right hand side (opposide end to where the hose goes to the air box) (again from the front) what does that measure?
  • Rover 25 (1999 - 2005) - 02 1.4 Losing a fair bit of water! 14 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have checked underneath the car for obvious signs, nothing. I've checked to see any white smoke coming from my exhaust, that seems fine. The coolant has had to be filled twice in 3 days. It is a little merky and there is yellow sludge on the inside of the tank. I have just bought some K-Seal as thought i could try to see if it helps. Any other suggestions anyone??
  • Volkswagen Touareg (2003 - 2010) - 2006 2.5 New camshaft & oil cooler 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Less than 4 yr old, 53,000 mile on the clock, recently got error message "insufficient coolant". VW garage (which has always maintained it) advised oil cooler and camshaft needs replacing, £2,500 bill! Considering age & miles, does this seem strange to anyone else? I know very little about cars, however considering warranty is 3 yrs or 60,000 miles, surely these parts are designed to last longer than this?
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2004 1.4 - Warm Starting Problem 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
There are no fault codes on the ECU, I've already changed the crank shaft positioning sensor, the air inlet temperature sensor & the engine coolant temperature sensor, but none of these has made any difference. Does anybody have any other ideas.
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1996 1.4 Head and oil consumption problems 25 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I have a petrol AEX engine which has a lot of "mayo" in the oil filler cap and has always (during the several months we've had it) run with a "tappet" type noise from the head. It seems to use too much oil and coolant and I expect there is a small leak internally across the cylinder head gasket. At some point in the future I want to take the head off and replace the gasket and check the state of the cam and related parts.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2004 1.4 Warm Starting Problem 17 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I've changed the crankshaft positioning sensor & the air inlet temperature sensor. I was going to change the engine coolant temperature sensor next. Has anybody else had a similar problem ?
  • Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 2000 1.9 TDI Heater Matrix? 26 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The first thing I thought of was heater matrix and this is only because my brother had similar problems with a Nissan Primera. I checked the coolant bottle under the bonnet and is full. Any ideas? Could it be something related to: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=4&t=68882

  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 1.2 T reg (1999) - Heater Hose Removal 1 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Hi Everybody, Fathers Clio 1.2 Reg T 1999 Plate, had a damaged Power Steering Pump which he replaced, in his haste to replace he punctured the coolant hose from the Engine to the Heater Matrix. Managed to unclip the the Engine side of this hose (Jubilee Clip) but cannot figure out how to remove the connection from the Matrix, it looks like circ clips either side of the connection, I assumed by squeezing them together I would be able to release the hose.
  • Ford - KA (2002) - Smokey on cold startup 4 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Just a bit too bad to 'let it develop' although once warm, its fine. Drives well, uses a litre of oil in 6k, doesn't use any water, doesn't pressurise coolant excessively. Valve stem oil seals look ok with rockerbox off - soft, not hardened as far as I can tell. Any thoughts? Ta Neil Subject line changed to include model and year. - PU
