  • How to enforce private parking in a garage block 4 Apr 2017 (Forum)
About enforcement; I'm finding it really hard to come across options other than this company: https://www.flashpark.co.uk/ I realise there are loads of websites and articles online about unfair parking enforcement and how to fight it. I'm sure we'll run into the same trouble one day, if we end up overstaying in a superstore car park by an hour. But I'm not talking about accidentally clogging up a public car park for a bit too long, I'm talking about people who every day brazenly park on private, residential land that they know doesn't belong to them.
  • 2007 Seat Altea 1.9 TDI - Where are VAG's legendary 55 mpg??? 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I have recently acquired a 2007 Seat Altea Reference 1.9 TDI 5 speed with the risky BXE (I learned about the high risk of conrod failure after I bough it so I am keeping my fongers crossed) The car has 129k on the clock and had been well mantain and runs really well. I find the 105 BHP to be more than adequate to my needs and the ride is pretty nice. Much nicer than the 2006 Golf MK5 SDI that replaced. Now I do 380 miles per week and I need good MPG.
  • Ford Focus 2011 1.6 Petrol 150 psi Mk 3 Miles 52K - Clutch and Gearbox issue plus total Dispair 19 Jan 2017 (Forum)
The next day I once again couldnt get my car into any gear whilst the engine was running but ok when engine was off  and had to loan a car to go to work  so at this point losing faith in this garage and gave them a poor mark on there ( How did we do Email ) . Got home that same afternoon and was contacted by there reception to say that my car was booked in the next day to change the Turbo Pipe , I told them this had been done 2 days earlier ( not the best organisation process to say the least ) and that I was totally disappointed with there service and the receptionist  then got there Service Leader to call me back.
  • VW Crafter CR35 2.5TDI - DPF!!! As usual. 20 Nov 2016 (Forum)
As i've refused to take the van out of the dealership, we currently have a courtesy van from enterprise paid by VW when the van was in for repair, im not giving that back either as the business needs to run. I know we will get charged but im not paying, VW will at the end of this dispute. Thanks for your time.
  • Jaguar X-Type Estate - Intermittent Loss Of Power - Actuator? Jag X Type 7 May 2016 (Forum)
I just got a 2005 Jaguar X-Type 2.0 Diesel Estate (about a month ago), and on the first real long motorway run, after about an hour, suddenly I had very slow accelleration at all speeds (though the speed isn't limited at all), but as soon as I turn off and on, works beautifully as usual.  Then, having to do a lot of long journeys it happened again after about an hour, and then again about half an hour after that, so I let it cool down for an hour at the services, and then did a further 1.5 hrs no problem.
  • 4 wheels a body and engine that moves. - Cheshire police. 23 Jan 2016 (Forum)
They even make up their own offences at times. As all will know the police get all funds from seizures, fines, and sales of seized goods. Because of this the police of cheshire/north wales are running a business, and when they require funds they will get them any way they can. Even with false charges because they need the money for the officers. I have read many a forum over the speed limit on the A5 up to Halton, towards Wrexham from the roundabout to chirk.
  • Why Does the Motor Trade...... 10 Jan 2016 (Forum)
The Bromp family fleet comprises a brace of Berlingos, my 05 1.9D now on 156k miles and Mrs B’s 2013 1.6/115. Ideally I’d run the older one to 15 yrs 200k miles but it’s had various issues recently of which heavy steering is the latest and I’ve decided to get shot. Possible replacements, both on local (Northampton) franchise dealer forecourts, are an 11 plate Skoda Roomster 1.9/90 on 70k miles or an 09 Citroen C3 Picasso 1.6/90 on around 45k miles.
  • Ford Focus / Other - Help choosing a car 23 Nov 2015 (Forum)
With a kid in nursery and another kid at a different primary school, my wife ends up walking about 6 miles a day, when I take the car to work. Hence my wife needs a car for the school run. She would prefer a smaller car (such as a Yaris) due to the easier parking, but I am dubious about the safety of small cars, particularly safety for kids in the event of a rear end collision. I did explore a Kia Rio, as it has a reasonably large boot / rear crumple zone.
  • 2003 1.8l Mondeo Estate, 144k miles - Ford Mondeo Mk3 Hesitates and Stutters during acce 23 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Sometimes disconnecting the battery for an hour to clear the data in the system can improve performance. Only do this when you have chance to take it for a reasonable run (30 mins or 20 miles) immediately afterwards, so it can 'learn' the engine characteristics once it's fully up to temperature. Another possibility, if it's an early Mk3 (up to about 2003 - 2004) or it's fairly high mileage anyway, is that the swirl plates in the inlet manifold are failing.
  • Nissan X-Trail 2.2Di Sport - Intermittent Power Loss / Surges - Fuel air leak?? 31 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have checked the filter housing/priming pump by installing a clear fuel pipe to the outlet, that loops higher than the filter, and there are no bubbles whilst engine is running. What I do notice is when the engine is switched off a large bubble appears from the direction of the fuel pump and sits at the top of this loop. It clears when the engine is started but returns when stopped.
  • Renault Scenic - Loss of power 30 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My ex-Renault mechanic and all his contacts have run out of ideas. Has anyone any thoughts or possible suggestions please? I am desperate!   Look forward to receiving any help and advice.
  • My part ex has developed a fault after trade in 12 May 2014 (Forum)
I wasn't aware of any fault prior to trading the car in otherwise I would have mentioned it. As previously mentioned I work in the trade running a franchise main dealership so I know how many tricks people use to hide things so I didn't want to be tarred with the same brush.   My wife loves the new car, and says we won't be taking the old one back - she feels he might have done something to it.
  • Skoda Octavia vRS estate - Impressions after 2,000 miles 14 Jan 2014 (Forum)
But it is only slightly, and we still need the space of an estate, so this and the lower cost price, the 0% finance, the proper handbrake and the excellent dealer I use (Jewsons of Oxford, shortly to be rechristened Ridgeway Skoda) swayed it in favour of the Octavia. The icing on the cake is 40 mpg on a long run.  I'm no boy-racer but I like to get a move on (or I wouldn't have had the vRS in the first place). I didn't need many extras - cruise control, variable boot floor, spare wheel, silver roof rails (to set off the black rubber window surrounds) and Amundsen sat-nav which was a surprisingly reasonably £550, and far better than the feeble old TomTom that I used to have to rely on.
  • Democracy - another observation 25 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Taking the UK as a very good example of the dilemma now facing our society and those who run it and want everyone to feel they belong to the tribe the over-arching religion model doesn’t work anymore because we are such a diverse group.  We have become the classic melting pot of race, colour, and belief and having one sole religion to gather us all together is not going to work.
  • Peugeot 306 steering rack removal 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The Peugeot one-use locking nuts seem to be to very fine tolerance limits, so a little rust on the top of the stud makes it impossible to get the nut off the stud and the T27 socket in the top of the stud easily rounds out.  Power wire brushing doesn't work.  Run a die (M10 x 1.25 in my case), squeezed right in, backwards up the thread to clear it of rust and NEVER force the nut against the Torx socket.  If it still won't come off, heat the nut with a blow torch or oxy-acetylene if you have it.
  • E30 318i / 1994 / Tourer. - Fluctuating engine,lights & fan after new HT Leads 19 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I tested the engine up the road, and it ran fine / smooth,  accept  on approaching every 'Give Way' or junction, the engine would cut out. But whilst the engine was running, I noticed the MPH (?) gauge (for judging usage of petrol at various speeds,) was all over the place, high when stationary and low when the accelorator was pushed, and the engine was fluctuating, along with the fan and lights.

It is now running beautifully.   Abbey's service department is very good indeed.
  • Renault Clio dynamique Tom Tom 5 door - excessive steering vibration over rumble strips 14 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Immediately at the test drive they knew something was wrong.....they actually agreed with the customer.......I have owned different  cars for 41 years and the clio is my wife's smaller run around as I call it.    Anyway they examined it and found the bracket at the base of the steering column had not been fixed at the right angle at the factory.  They replaced it and after 3 days the car was brought back to the house and immediately on driving it even on a smooth road I could tell that it was now like 'driving a new car'.....which it was really.....!!...
  • Ford Focus 1.8 TCDI - Head Gasket - return the car to dealer? 13 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Does the dealer have a duty of care and should he have known about this? Should he have told me? The garage have run checks on my vehicle and still cant get to the bottom of the fault and i am told it has had the engine flushed through and they cant look at it until next tuesday. This will mean it is past my 14 day 'cooling of period' within my statutory rights so do i cut my losses and make the garage take it back?
  • Saab - the future 10 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Saab had already engineered a battery-powered version of the 9-3, so getting the company up and running will not be too onerous, so long as the suppliers can be convinced to get onboard (payment in advance being the most likely successful method). The deal also makes sense in that the manufacturers of electric propulsion technology cannot get into the automotive market and using the shell of Saab to achieve this is a neat solution.
