  • Astra heater,aircon,rear window switches 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Astra Club - R-reg For some reason all of the switches below the heater fan controls (air recirculation, air con and heated rear window) have all suddenly stopped working as has the actual heating (i.e. turning the heater temperature control has no effect). The fan control still works fine. Does anyone have any clues as to what could cause all of these to stop at the same time.
  • VW polo heating has gone 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have a W reg polo which has been without heating since november (I have been putting off doing anything that's not totally essential until I get job with this fantastic MSc that will supposedly make me a desirable employee). Anyway, I wondered if there were any suggestions of what it could be and how much it will set me back?

  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - Bizarre breakdown ... and cheap fix 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Strange day indeed! Left at normal time this morning, dropped junior at school, got back in car reached for smokes... discovered the Zippo had been left at home. damn. So used the car's ciggie lighter. Now, the lighter needs to be held in a bit to heat it up to ciggie-lighting hotness... Carried on, normal route, got a few miles down the road in stop/go traffic, reach for new ciggie, push in lighter, wait for it to heat up.

  • cyclists and no front light nnngghh 2 Oct 2004 (Forum)
why? do they not consider the threat from in front of them - the car coming out of the side road, the car turning right in front of them? they've got a rear light, turned it on, but often don't even bother turning the front one on even though it's there?

  • Ford Escort - Car temperature gauge at max 9 Mar 2019 (Forum)
My temperature gauge can often get very close to the red, if I’ve been sitting in traffic for a while (I am sure that I hear the fan kicking in, so that isn’t the problem). I then turn on the heating, but should I really need to do this? Should I get the problem checked out, or is this kind of thing normal on most cars?
  • Idling when cold. 14 Nov 2006 (Forum)
We all now that idling a car just to heat it up is not good for the engine. My son who has just got his first car a few weeks ago did this very thing this morning. I would like to explain to him that this is not a good thing to do but I don't know exactly what harm is being done to the engine.

  • made me smile 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I saw a 55 reg vehicle bowling along with a flyer flapping under the windscreen wiper. I got a glimpse of the flyer and it was for MOTs. That made me smile. Does a simple event like that ease your journey? Any other examples

  • Roadside Car Sales - Legal to park ? 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Today noticed a yellow sticker on the windscreen. It is from the council stating it is illegally parked and is marked for removal. Why is that? Could it be someone complained he is a trader? I read somewhere here that there is an old law which states it is illegal to put up a car for sale on the public road or something similar.
  • Remote car stopping by mobile phone 21 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Having read the modbile phone starting/pre heating thread, I started thinking (dangerous I know). I would personally like to see a device that can STOP the car with a mobile phone, and return a GPS position for the car's whereabouts for recovery after attempted theft.
