Having read the modbile phone starting/pre heating thread, I started thinking (dangerous I know).
I would personally like to see a device that can STOP the car with a mobile phone, and return a GPS position for the car's whereabouts for recovery after attempted theft.
Imagine how many cars would be stopped from falling into the wrong hands, and how many dangerous police pursuits would be saved.

Not wanting to be a damp squib, but couldn't this be dangereous. Say your car had been stolen, and you find out at say 5pm. Thief could by then be miles away, at high speed on a motorway or major road. You call on bat phone, car stops in the outside lane (say). Multi car pile up ensues.
By all means fit a tracker. But a car stopper? No thanks.

Already exists in the US I think. A central monitoring station can put the car into default mode whihc reeduces engine power by 90% and also advises of location. Police can then remotely switch engine off at a safe place.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

And here in blighty. Mark Evan's had one fitted to his Land Rover (A 4x4 is born). An all singing dancing alarm that could text him if the alarm went off. He could phone the alarm and tell low life what he thought of them through a loud speaked fitted in the cab, and could also shut down the engine and get a GPS location of where the vehicle was.

I'd pay BIG money to be able to hack his system and be able to call him up and tell him what I thought of him whenever the fancy took me. He is far and away the most annoying twerp on TV.

"....but couldn't this be dangereous...."
No more dangerous than breaking down.

I'm sure this was an advanced option on a tracker system

I read often, only post occasionally

Saw a recent report in the Australian papers. Lady found her new top of the line Holden missing. Holden have a tracking system in this model and she phoned the Holden help line. They tracked the car with GPS, informed the police and then when they saw on the GPS that the car had pulled into a driveway they immobilised it. Police rolled up and nicked the thieves. All done very efficiently and safely.
Trouble with this sort of thing is that the thieves won't stop taking the cars. They will car jack and take the owners also so that no one will report the car missing. That is what has been happening in Africa.
