  • Straight Six Engine Rotor Arms 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
A member of the Triumph 2000 Register has reported that his car has been suffering intermittent misfiring and multiple condenser failures, in one instance needing RAC recovery. Replacing the coil, points and king lead failed to cure the problem and it was eventually found that the engine had been fitted with a 4-cyl rotor arm instead of the correct 6-cyl one and this was causing excess arcing which was destroying other ignition components.
  • Poor idling Astra 94 1.8 16v ecotec 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Another note to consider is that when I pull off the plug that connects to the \'Idle control valve\' it makes no difference. As if there is no signal going to it in the first place leading me to believe that the new \'Idle control valve\' isnt doing anything yet. If anyone could shed some light on this I would be most grateful. Regards Carl
  • Help Vectra V6 2.5 GLS Miss-fire 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My Vectra (1997 'P' GLS Saloon) has a misfire which is most noticeable at about 1200-1500 RPM and I think is also higher in the rev range too. This car has been to a tuning centre where It was diagnosed that the HT leads were breaking down, these have been replaced as were the plugs and it still has the same miss-fire. Taking advise from others I have just fitted a new Bosch DIS pack and the problem is still there.
  • is my battery dead or something worse? 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Yesterday my car suddenly wouldn't start - I got a clicking noise, and all my electrics seemed "weak", i.e. the e/w were moving v. slowly, central locking was not always working. I got the car started with jump leads and drove for 30 minutes. Then as soon as I stopped, the electrics were dead again. While I was driving, the electrics were not 100%, e.g. opening the el. window made the headlights dim. Overnight, I borrowed a battery charger and attached it to the battery, but after half an hour or so, the charger reckoned the battery was fully charged, but still no joy with starting the engine.

The on board nag tells me there is a fuel injection problem and to contact you know who. Note DIS Cap, Rotor Arm, Oil Seal and HT Leads replaced.
  • My Xmas Prezzy 31 Dec 2002 (Forum)
(Or else the connection to the phone would be lost presumably)) Does anyone know if there are standard wiring colours for the appropriate power lead/ignition wire? Or even any general advice on undertaking this little task? Just I don't wanna set fire to my baby just after her first Xmas! For anyone who can't remember the car is an 02 Fiesta (Old style) Blue
  • Alloy Wheels - Bad Design! 27 Sep 2002 (Forum)
This way, they fitted snugly into the holes without leaving a gap. However, I now realise that this leads to a problem - the bolts have begun to show small cracks around the upper edge. BK Racing claim that that this is due to overtourqing the bolts, yet the wheels have only been removed probably four or five times, and the bolts have always been put back on using a torque wrench.
  • Toyota Supra (1986 - 1993) - 87 1.0 12 valve Starlet - coolant 17 May 2002 (Forum)
My concern is that if I undo the cap, will that affect the pressure of the system, and I'm worried about affecting/ dislodging the pipes that lead to the coolant tank. I'm a poor student - hence why I haven't got a proper mechanic to do it yet! I realise this is quite a basic question, but your help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Rob E.
  • Brakes & Brake Fluid... 15 May 2002 (Forum)
Its not really an issue, since it is hardly an expensive job, even on the Dodge, but its never happened before and so I wonder what lead to it this time. Mark.
  • New Astra Paintwork 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have a new "51 reg" Astra SXI Turbodiesel in metallic black, Ive only done 5000 miles and already the leading edge of the bonnet is peppered with small stone chips, right through to the undercoat which is pale grey. The car had to be repaired after a neighbour collided with the front wing one saturday morning, so I mentioned these stonechips to the dealer, asking the bodyshop to repair them whilst they had the car.

  • More b****y Mondeo woes 19 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Kids wont take no for an answer, so root out the old battery I kept when I scrapped the Passat months ago. On with the jump leads and it starts first time. Well done Passat. I wish I had sold the Mondeo to pay for the MOT repairs to the Passat. God but I hate that Mondeo!! Bill
  • cd multi players 30 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Anyway can anyone tell me if its just the Sony CDX-646 that I will need ? (can I go out and shop for the cheapest one I can get ?) Or do I need some convertor and lead to run to the head unit ? Will any other Cd players work with minimal work ? Where is the best place to fit the thing, in the boot ?, where ? Is there a cheaper source than the dealers for the Toyota original kit ?
  • Vectra wont start 2 Mar 2001 (Forum)
This has happened 4 or 5 times & each time I call out the local Vauxhall dealer who has found the only way to start it is to bump start (Jump leads are not sufficient) After full diagnostic check the dealer has never been able to find the fault. Replacement plugs do not help. Any one who has solved this or has a solution? One would have thought Vauxhall would have discovered the solution but it appears not, or at least if they have they've not informed their dealers.
  • Vauxhal Vectra B - X18XE Missfire (no EML) 7 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I started off by checking the engine grounds,ECU ground and basically any i could find (they where cleaned and checked) next i was told that the alt overcharging can do odd things so i tested that (14.4v at 3000 rpm which i believe is ok), i thought that maybe the oil fault had returned so i pulled all the plugs (they where fine) i tested the Leads and Coil (also within spec), Checked the Compression (all even and within spec). Now i am left thinking it could be a Sensor?. But even when its really playing up there is no Engine light or fault codes?
  • Honda Accord 2.0i SE VTec (auto) 1999 - What's fair - after purchase query, used car 29 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Suggested that I give it a few miles and see if the light comes back on and stays on in which case he'll replace the plugs and leads. Light did flicker on and off a couple of times after I'd got the revs up a bit some open road, but went off again after couple of mins. However, garage picked up that the aircon isn't working, I hadn't even tried it yet.
  • Acceptable Forum Behaviour 6 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Not only can arguments and in-jokes be unwelcoming for newcomers, they can have the same negative effects on regular members. For starters it can lead to unpleasantness, misunderstandings and name calling just because of a few misplaced words. It can also lead other members to think a certain way of behaving is acceptable, and where they see one person doing it, so like sheep they follow suit.
  • VW T-Roc - VAG 7 speed dry clutch DSG box....we have one! 30 Dec 2022 (Forum)
My question is simply, is there any particular way to drive the car with mechanical sympathy to minimise the risk of putting undue strain on the box? Or to put it another way is there any particular driving style which is more likely to lead to issues? Thanks in advance
  • Best Car Someone With Mobility Issues 1 Nov 2022 (Forum)
The reason being that my elderly grandfather's mobility is becoming more and more limited, he's 6ft plus and finds getting into the Civic an absolute nightmare as the car is low and he keeps hitting his head trying to get in and he has terrible trouble with his legs/muscles. I've been looking online and it's leading me to believe that I may have to look into getting a small SUV. Not thrilled at the thought of getting one as I am used to driving smaller vehicles but needs must at the moment!  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am just so not sure where I even begin!
  • Highway code changes - straight ahead priority 1 Sep 2021 (Forum)
So a motorcyclist would be expected to overtake a car when it's waiting to turn right? Surely this can't be right? I can see these changes leading to a lot of collisions, but maybe I've misunderstood it (but that would mean it's not as 'simple' as they say). Does anybody think it's a good idea?
