  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 2002, 1.3 Duratec misfire 28 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Just had a call from little brother, their shared family runabout is misfiring. 80k on the clock He has changed plugs and leads also in desperation has replaced the coilpack. Still doing it at idle and when driving, although at times it runs OK. Pulling plug leads off, it "seems" worse with one pair than the other (hence the coilpack). I've suggested that he goes round all connectors he can find and pulls them apart and shove them back together with a wiggle.
  • Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - iCDTi one off hesitancy 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The other day, while in DIY hell, I had to do several short (2 mile) runs from cold. On the 3rd of 4, the car didn't feel like it was pulling properly. Then, on a roundabout just before the end of the journey, it didn't pull at all off the roundabout. 2k rpm in 2nd and pretty much nothing.
  • Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 2002 Installing a CD changer 15 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I have an Alpine CHM S620 CD changer from a previous vehicle that I'm trying to fit in our 2002 Honda Jazz. All should be ok in fixing the changer to the boot floor and I have the connecting cable to run to the front of the car under the carpets & plastic trim etc. The problem is when I get to the radio cassette head unit and I need an interface between that and the CD cable. The radio cassette has an Aux button on and will accept a CD changer, but is there any way I can find out the type of head unit apart from removing it?
  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1998 1.5 diesel intermittent non start. 4 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I saw mentioned that it only costs £15 and takes about 30 mins to correct. Could someone please let me know what to do? The car runs fine once started and never cuts out. Thanks Pete
  • What Tyres for a Ford Focus? 4 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I know there are many backroomers that run Focus' (though anyone feel free to give your opinions). I was just wondering what tyres you guys use, only I need some new one's and, though I've found the Goodyear NCT5 Eagle's (195/60/R15) to last well and handle well, I was wondering whether there are any that are comparable in these respects but also quieter?
  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - To Change Or............. 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Now, do I get rid of my 10 year old but very reliable Honda Aerodeck and take the plunge or do I just stick to what I have got? Anyone who has run one of these over 120k I would welcome comments from.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - (98-04)1.7 dti power loss/misfire 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
i have a 1.7dti van. the car runs fine when pottering around but when i accelerate harder such as to overtake or pull away from a junction when the revs build up it judders and seems to lose pulling power, when i ease off it seems to recover, sometimes when accelerating hard and i change gear and step on the accelerator again it does this, any ideas please?
  • Do the Gov, MPG figures `massage` petrol MPG 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Just how many stop starts from cold ( and I mean a temperature and usage that would have a petrol running constant enrichment) over what mileage is done to get the figures. Because I`m suggesting that the `urban` figure is not the definitive test for multi cold stop start work and it has generated a myth that only high mileage saves money with a diesel.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - Part exchange price? 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
What would I be looking at, roughly, for part exchange for this Corsa for a 51 plate Fiesta (2,995). Vauxhall Corsa, 2001, 3 door, 1.0L, 66k, s/h. Car runs well but there is some damage, nothing major i.e: alloys scuffed, rear plastic wheel arch missing, back of drivers wing mirror broken off. Inside is scraches on the steering wheel (one of her sold called mates done that wife a knife), scuffs on the corner of bumpers.

  • Designing `common sense` road features 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Drivers no doubt well versed in its intricate rights of passage seemed to have no problems despite seeming a little jug like on detecting my slow, careful courteous (Yorkshire) attempt to fit in with them. Yes, I was like a beetle blocking an ant run and there was much fuss and gesticulating of mandibles. Point is, Why should Local Authorities be allowed to install fancy road systems that are only understood by the local populace due to their sheer exposure to it and no doubt much study of it in the local paper?
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 - engine cut outs 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Recently, this happened again - in the same circumstances. On both occasions, it has been in the early morning first run. I have also noticed what appears to be a black splodge in the coolant. I don't think its oil (that floats?!). The coolant level does not see to have gone down, maybe by a fraction of a millimetre in the 3 months i have had the car.
  • Car laid up for 12 months - advice 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
will be SORNed and kept on Mum's drive for 12 months while the young lady travels to various far-flung parts of the globe. My initial thoughts about the best procedure for this are that it should be started and run to full temperature every fortnight or so and, as the driveway is spacious, it should be driven back and forth as much as space will allow. The handbrake should not be applied and the tyres should be marked so that the wheels are not always in the same position when at rest.
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 92 1.4 RN starting problem 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Battery turns over engine OK but for about 10 attempts nothing seems to happen - no indication of firing & smell of petrol from exhaust. Then it starts, but will stall if throttle is touched. After a couple of minutes it runs fine. Have taken it to garage but of course it always fires up immediately. As a diesel driver for many years I have forgotten how these petrol things work!! Any suggestions as to what it might be ?
  • Mitsubishi Grandis MPV (2004 - ) - 2005 2.4 auto - How to upgrade the brakes 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Car - Mitsubishi Grandis 2.4 Auto 2005, running on Warrior Alloy wheels - another question. Love the car in many ways, but have never been happy about the brakes, they just don't feel powerful enough for the size and weight of car. At times especially in wet I feel they could not be depended on if needed in an emergency.
  • recommend me a diesel estate 18 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I am thinking of replacing my 110 chipped to 143 V reg passat sport estate. Its done 165k and runs very well but I fancy a change. The handling of the Passats has always been a touch vague for me After a diesel with minimum of 150bhp sporty looks and drive. Have a budget of £8k not inc any trade in.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - [1995 1299CC] - Correct/Best Oil? 27 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Its currently got 10/40 semi synthetic in it which I put in last time it was serviced because I had the oil for free, I understand this is the wrong oil! Now the engine does sound a little bit tappy when running, I have been told this is perfectly normal for the age/type of engine and that its more of an annoyance than it is a problem, I was advised that if I was to put a thicker oil in it will quieten down.
  • Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 420 TD won't start on cold days 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)

  • Toyota - Corolla 2005 Diesel Not Starting no fuel 11 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I ran the car till the tank was (I thought) nearly empty. I guess it was pretty dry. The was still running normally when I stopped. However this morning it would not start (there was a clicking noise when I tried), but no starter motor. I got 8l of diesel and poured it in the tank and operated the bleeding button on the top of the fuel pump (for quite a while).
