Sept 2001 Scoob Impreza 2000 Turbo 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
It was my birthday on Monday and Leoness has agreed to allow me to buy another impreza. yaay! think it will cost me in the long run - noticed travel brochures in the house!!! I sold my old impreza (1995 - Jap Import) some years ago in a moment of regrettable haste, and have longed to have her back ever since. I think I have found one which meets my criteria. -
Horrendous Economy or lead foot? 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I know it's a pretty thirsty engine but I seem to be filling her up every day. I usually only put a tenner in or if I'm doing a big run that day I'll stick £20 in. I never put any more in and so, obviously, never fill the tank. Because of this, I wouldn't be able to give you the MPG figures but I have tried changing my driving style. -
Pug 406 - Replacing the stereo... 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Ideally, i'd like to replace the stereo with a minidisc header unit, keeping the multichanger in the boot to run from it. BUT, this raises a few questions: * The Pug stereo is an abnormal shape/size, my guess is behind it there is a more plan facia and standard sized stereo slot, or else a bit of placcy the right shape, but with a normal sized slot, could be obtained from a dealer etc? -
Why the huge jump in diesel performance 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Given the higher calorific value, how come technology hasn't been applied to petrol engines that have a zillion horsepower, collossol torque, low thermal losses, and run on half an egg cup of fuel per day? Sure, Mistubishi, Audi, and others seem to now dabble with high pressure direct injection, and we're starting to read about it with turbo engines too, but I can't see how a fuel, diesel, with low calorific value, can use those calories to vastly more efficient effect. -
Uninsured drivers 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I mean, how are the poor dears expected to look at a calendar every day to see if their policy has run out? Finally, it would surely be only fair to impose a token penalty for the first few offences (maybe £60 and 3 penalty points) and only take severe action against them if they get caught 4 times. -
TV Road Tax Advert 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
But now, the government has spent a fortune {no doubt} producing and putting on air a TV advert - which still implies that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang should pay road tax. How long has the advert been running? Such TV ads can cost many £1,000s per second at peak times? Are they daft, or am I missing something!!!! More proof, if proof were needed, The government / local councils even fine greengrocers for quoting prices of fruit and veg in pounds rather than kgs. -
First time buyer but 30! 9 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Initially, it seems to sit my needs but I wonder if it has enough grunt. My main concern however is servicing and running costs. I know it would be due a major service at 80k miles and I should factor that in. Any ideas to the cost. 2) Ford Fiesta 1.8D Azura , Diesel, 1995 M Reg , Petrol Blue Metallic, Hatchback, 59,000 miles , 3 Doors. -
Small car, really sensible advice needed 10 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Size and suitability for a 5'2" petite young lady 2. Reliability and safety 3. All round value for money - purchase price and insurance plus running costs. Neither of our cars are at all suitable for her as they are both large automatics. He has a company car but commutes by train. I have a car and do less than 10,000 miles pa - so our costs are already quite high, and our cars get little use. -
Small Rover - doomed at birth? 24 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Can't see people rushing to buy one of these instead of a Fabia, Yaris etc etc unless it is very cheap. I purchased an Indica V2 in July 2001. I wish I didn?t. The car works. It runs on road. It gives pretty decent mileage per liter of diesel. That is about it. For the last year I have been struggling to get rid of the noise problem in my vehicle. All kinds of noises; Emanating from every where under the hood you can imagine- wheezing, asthmatic, screeching, rattling & squeaking. -
Nightmare car buys 9 Dec 2002 (Forum)
As he was trying to weld the floor, I removed the trim from above the N/S rear suspension strut (this had coil suspension springs with the shocks running through). As the trim cam away, the car sank by about 1 inch! Well I was glad I got to Rugby safely. On closer inspection one of the 3 bolt holes had completely rusted away and the suspension was being kept in place by a small flap of rotting steel. -
Handling improvements 14 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Fit uprated shocks, retain standard springs, fit uprated anti-roll bars front & rear; 2. Fit uprated springs & shocks, retain standard anti-roll bars. The car currently runs on the standard 205/65VR15 tyres on steel wheels - my plan is to upgrade these to alloys but retain the 15" diameter for comfort - I'm willing to trade ultimate roadholding for comfort, they are pretty good as they are. -
Advice/input re 75 buying decision 23 Sep 2002 (Forum)
He's an hour and a half from me, so I don't want to make a wasted journey, but here's the info I have so far. He tells me that the car was one of the fleet run by Rover management itself, has full Rover history (last serviced at 73k and says he will do another before it leaves his forecourt), is in immaculate condition, has no outstanding finance, did mostly motorway miles and has never been in an accident. -
Bikers/ex-bikers make Better Drivers? 14 Oct 2001 (Forum)
It has been said, and I would agree, that drivers who began their motoring lives on bikes have far better skills for appreciating road surface quality, anticipating events, understanding weather conditions as they relate to speed and distance, and their observation skills are generally superior to those who leap into a repmobile or the school run after 8 hours with BSM. Motorcycle riders being vastly more vulnerable, their need for sharper awareness is blindingly obvious, but I have always felt I am a better driver as a result of what I learn on my bike(s), and after each session in the saddle feel I do a better job next time I get behind the wheel. -
Clocked or not 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
That left me two white 1.9 petrol estates, both with trade sellers. No 1 had 80k with a reasonable service history from new and was being sold on a forecourt run by a reasonable imitation of a retired Sex Pistol with a nice line in gunning the engine to warm it up. The accumulator was ticking away every two seconds but the interior looked good. Stone chips were in line with the mileage. -
Veg oil in your tank 13 Jul 2001 (Forum)
With kilometer of 1513 the burner motorway is achieved, and is called again distances eat: requirementless concrete runways up to the target. Milan, Monaco, Marseille, Montpellier - who runs and runs gulf, who flows and flows yellowish Gebraeu. Up to the sleep break with kilometer of 3221, south of Barcelona. On the next morning the gulf does not branch to. Starting does not bring anything, and dragging along is forbidden in Spain. -
Renault Zoe 2 Aug 2025 (Forum)
The Zoe may be a bit awkward looking compared to more stylish electric superminis, but they’re reliable, dirt cheap to run, fun to drive and comfortable. They’re ideal as commuters and generally a 50kwh example will cover most people’s motoring needs, as long as you don’t need much rear seat space. They are a bit tight in the back, and that’s pretty much my only complaint after two years of driving around in one. -
Boot length need, a find me car thread 15 Nov 2024 (Forum)
It's also only got 56K on it so plenty of life for any next owner. The problem is my wife is disabled and whatever we move to we'd like to be able to run her electric wheel chair straight into the boot (using a ramp), while keeping it as a 5 seater. Currently I have to lift it into the Venga, but I'm getting older and a 30kg lift with a 90 degree twist to put it across the boot is starting to take its toll. -
All the car you need? 7 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Ford Mondeo 1.8 LX Mk I 5dr - Perfect in almost every way at the time. Ford Focus 1.6 LX 5dr Mk I - Brilliant handling yet reliable, comfortable and cheap to run. Mazda 3 2.0 Sport - Great fun yet practical. Enough power yet no worse on fuel day to day than the 1.6 models. Honda Civic 2.0 Type S 5dr - All the practicality and reliability of this model of Civic but with Rev happy 158bhp motor and firmed (but not too firm) up handling. -
Renault (Grand) Modus - Cabin air... 25 Jan 2022 (Forum)
(By fumes I'm meaning the ever so slightly oily smell you might notice with an older engine if you stick your head under the bonnet with engine running - the tiniest bit of such stuff destroys me!) The symptoms I experience are not immediate but will build up over a few days of exposure. So I can't ascertain from a test drive whether or not a car will suit me. -
Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 - Tiguan 7 speed DSG gearbox dead after 30k miles 5 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The workshop manager has informed me that he's going to try and get 'goodwill' from factory/fleet/dealership but I'm not holding my breath as it turns out 'factory' have already said no. The car is due to run out on finance in 2 weeks time and I'm trying to figure out what to do. I've raised a case with VWUK customer services and am awaiting a call back from VWFS but everything seems to be taking an age.
