  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 150,000 mile tdci report 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I've had the dreaded glow plug light flashing occasionally, happened a few times at the start of last winter but it hasn't come on since I went round and wriggled all the wires and unplugged and replugged all the connectors a few times to wipe the corrosion of the contacts. Its still running well. The drivers seat is starting to show some very minimal signs of sagging, though I suspect with a heavier driver it would be a bit worse. I'm 11.5 stone so less than average, though the right weight for my average height.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.8 petrol (?) Stalling engine & ign. light. 17 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone give me any ideas, the friend has plugged it into a computer and the car has not logged any faults with it. Am running out of patience with it as it really is costing a lot of money which as a single parent I don't have. Any ideas will be appreciated.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Misfire frustration! 13 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Didn't cure it, so got to changing the spark plug in cylinder 1, where the residue had been most prominent, took it for a two mile run and it didn't miss a beat. However took the car out this evening and misfire is back with a vengeance. So have now replaced all spark plugs, as well as leads... After all that my question is, what are the chances of this being the coil pack going, just by coincidence, over the possibility of some other problem having developed due to the rusty patches?
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - Crash 22 Apr 2008 (Forum)
police said it was insurance job and i couldnt believe what i was hearing. police gave me a full name, address, ins and personal check and didnt even run her through the computer. we are both 20 and have been driving carefully for 2 and 3 years respectively and i feel we may lose our no claims over this. i dont think it is fair that because i am a young driver people assume i was speeding.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1996 1.4 - gunge around oil cap 28 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Most of my journeys are around 12-15 miles long (basically to and from work or to the cinema and back) - I've heard mention that short journey's can sometimes cause this but 12-15 miles is more than enough to get my temperature gauge to its usual leve. 4. The temp gauge has not deviated from it's usual position once the engine has been running - the car doesn't appear to get hotter more qujickly etc. I'm assuming the recent very frosty weather has resulted in the coolant being used up so quickly? I've checked under the car and there isn't any fluids leaking apart from an oily build up under the gearbox (it's always been like that for as long as I've had the car). 5.
  • Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - Misfuelling - how to prove a negative? 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Those of you that have been following the Honda Warranty thread may be aware that I have been having ongoing problems with my Accord losing power, and that it finally turned into a non-intermittant problem when it refused to start last Friday, pouring lots of black smoke out the back and only running for a couple of seconds on two cylinders. After initial stress, I was actually thinking that this was a good thing, as at least it meant they could find the problem. My stress levels have just gone through the roof though, as I?
  • Ford Granada/Scorpio (1985 - 1998) - Claiming from 3rd party (Insurance say NO !?) 19 Jan 2008 (Forum)
On investigation / witnesses advised that: Car (A) was a passing vehicle which came down the road too fast and rammed into the rear of parked car (B) - which then caused car (B) to be shunted into my dads car which is car (C). (A) hit (B) pushing (B) into (C) CAR A - drove away, no details of vehicle known (HIT & RUN) CAR B - smashed up rear (hit by A) - smashed up front (pushed into C) CAR C - my dads car, smashed up rear. Initially we did not consider this as a major problem as the vehicle which hit my dads vehicle is still present, and we have the details of the vehicle, which have been passed onto insurance Co. stating that we want to claim from car B insurance.
  • Reversing into driveways - surely safer? 2 Dec 2007 (Forum)
However, due to the lazy neighbours across the road regularly parking thier cars almost opposite my driveway on the road (many houses have a long drive where cars are parker end-to-end), I would struggle to reverse out anyway, but isn't an issue when I drive out forwards. Most houses have hedges running along the boundary to the road, which if reversing out restricts visability. I'm often surprised that I'm the only one who reverses in! It's so easy to drive out forwards and the number of people I see struggling to reverse out is surprising.
  • Pug 306TD Conrod Failure-Engine Change. 27 Nov 2007 (Forum)
So i refitted it, not touching anything other than the nut and glo plug shaft this time. Still no glo plug light, and no running engine. I swapped girlfriends working Glo Plug control unit from her P reg 97 306TD, with the same result. Cant see any reference in Haynes "Book of lies" to a glo plug fuse. So that only leaves the glo plugs themselves...which in the replacement engine, i have no guarantee theyre working, but surely all 4 cant be faulty...i'm gonna swap my old glo plugs over tonight, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas on the problem.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 diesel. braking judders! 2 Nov 2007 (Forum)
the disk is really warped again and the pads will be goosed again as a result. tomorrow i will check the suspension and all other bits for movement, damage and wobbles etc. i think after that i will go and get a caliper, disk and pads from the scrap yard ( cheep and if it don't fix the problem , which would be nice , it might make it bearable for a month or two ), i had previously taken off the caliper and removed all rust, the pins were perfect and the piston was too, moving fee.the hob was cleaned of all imperfections and seem ideal , no obvious defects. so i am clutching at straws but the disk and pads must be replaced, so, if i get them from the same car they will at least be run in and if the problem is solved i will know it was the caliper and will get new disk and pads before the mot ( 17 nov ) if it doesn't solve it, it is at least another thing off the list of possibilities.
  • Fun practical used car for £6-8k 14 May 2007 (Forum)
Insurance not too much of an issue - I can get a quote for £500 for a brand new Focus ST but I know some cars have an unusually high insurance group. Running costs need to be reasonable, as does reliability. Most likely to buy from a car supermarket like Car Giant but wouldn't buy privately or blindly over the internet. So I was wondering if anyone can give me any further suggestions or ideas!
  • Company Car vs Car Allowance 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I currently have a Merc C Class Automatic Coupe that is petrol for my company car. I have asked for a diesel but have been told I need to run this for at least another year. I get my mileage back when on company business but obviously, not personal and its expensive as I have to drive approx 60 miles per day when not out on customer visits.
  • Limits of Warranty? 5 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Basically, when the engine's cold it's 'jerky' from 1st-2nd for the first few miles or 10 mins running. So much so, that I prefer the 'winter' mode i.e. it starts off in 2nd from a standstill. I mentioned this first to the supplying dealer soon after I bought the car (they're 280 miles away btw) but didn't worry too much, since I thought any problems would be sorted at next service under warranty & I actually prefer the 'winter' mode change anyway.
  • MOT - Helpful fast fit 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I arrived in reception, booked the car in and asked if I could speak to the guy who'd be doing the inspection. I took him over to the car to run through a couple of things with him and almost as an afterthought mentioned the fact that due to the rear damage the hatch wouldn't open. I'd been previously informed by another garage that this wouldn't be an issue as long as the spare tyre and rear suspension mounts could be inpected from inside the car (which they could) so was more than a little upset to hear this.
  • Ford Focus Starting Problems and Stallin 24 Nov 2006 (Forum)
This is normally within about 15 mins after starting on my journey, when I am changing down gears but it has also happened when the car has been running for an hour. This is the main thing I am worried about since it a dangerous thing to happen in the middle of a busy junction. My other concern is that there is water leaking beneath the glove box.
  • Company car - totally confused! 1 Oct 2006 (Forum)
this would cost me: over 60 months on about 8% APR - £300 a month Mileage - say i did 50 a day - thats 250 a week - so 1000 a month at 35p a mile = £350 - approx cost of £5 a gallon (25mpg) = £200 giving me £150 a month potential profit off fuel for running costs My question is - what is the norm with car tax? if he gives me this allowance for a loan, would he pay tax on that? is it also normal to pay a fee per mile i cover for the business on top of this?
  • North Wales Police - outrageous! 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
To declare an interest - I have an aftermarket exhaust on my ZRX 1100, it is more efficient than the standard one and being made of titanium is much lighter than the steel original, that would probably have rusted through by now anyway, however it is road legal, if the powers at be have an issue with the noise emmitted from EC approved standard or road-legal aftermarket systems then surely they should campaign for a reduction in the allowable noise limit rather than suggest banning a whole category of transport. Yes, many motorcyclists run illegal race cans that are rather noisy however to suggest banning motorcycles because of an inconsiderate few is like banning cars because because of the Saxo brigade's big bass booming or banning football because there is the odd punch up after a game.
  • Choosing a company car!!!!!!!!!!!!! 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Factors they consider include which is better to drive, which engine or level of equipment to get, the colour, the tax for benefit in kind and other things that affect them as an individual. Rarely do they consider the running costs, servicing costs, or depreciation. These are very important factors that people who use their own money always consider. I always love to ask if they would have bought the car with your own money?
  • Improving Peugeot 406 HDI 2.2 136HP 24 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Come to think of it do pug/citroen have lots of tweekability or are they set up as standard pretty much at the top of their capabilities? Final consideration is that I'll prob run this car as far as I can, so if it's a case of 'the light that burns twice as bright lasts half as long' then I'll abandon it. Thanks for your thoughts. Oh yes, at risk of invoking the great oil debate, anyone know the real reason why pug INSIST that this 2.2 diesil must have 5W 40 oil?
  • Selling a cosmetically challenged car 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I am unexpectedly about to obtain a new car (for complicated and boring reasons) and so find my current trusty 3-door R-reg Rover 200, which I had fully intended to run into the ground, surplus to my requirements. However, since I had always intended to just keep it until it fell apart, and had no plans that I would ever sell it, I haven't bothered to keep it in good nick cosmetically.
