Mercedes Vito van - Contaminated fuel 29 Mar 2013 (Forum)
They have returned all the fuel along with a large jar which is full of a strange cocktail. The top third being diesel the next a silty dark grey (with bits floating inside) then the bottom third a light grey sludge like liquid. I have complained to the large company that I filled up at, explaining I bought a full tank from them one day broke down 40miles later and have been dismissed, I am in discussions with trading standards / citizen's advice ~ with little joy. -

LPG ? 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Still looking for a newer car , and came across a Volvo S60 bi-fuel (LPG) . Its a 2002 model and to be honest it is very nice . But my big worry is (please excuse me) because its a 2.4 5 cylinder no turbo , will it still cost as much to run , as say a diesel Vectra ? -
Driving diesels with health in mind 19 May 2009 (Forum)
My reasoning is, the compression is maintained, the exhaust temps are kept nice and high, soot build up should be reduced, possibly less smoking and carbon build up, the revs just off boost mean that big power requests are answered with enough air to fuel mix from the turbo being ready so you dont get big clouds of black smoke / unburn't fuel. So at between 1.8k and 2.6k there is possibly less stress on the DMF and turbo. I also find that providing you maintain a steady speed there is little difference in fuel consumption between lower RPM's and say 2k. -
Toyota Auris - hybrid or diesel & what MPG to expect 30 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My daily commute to work is a round trip of 50 miles, two thirds of which is motorway miles, and the rest on A & B roads - annual mileage is about 14-15 K. I know a diesel is better for the motorway, but I'm wondering whether I would be better served by getting a hybrid to deal with the in town traffic, or would the saving here be lost by using petrol on a motorway? I was looking at something along the lines of a Peugeot 308 1.6 e-HDI which is a diesel stop start, but I've heard that stop-starts do naff all in terms of saving fuel? -

citroen c3 2003 1.4 16v - c3 hdi starting problem 19 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi i have a citroen c3 1.4 16v 2003 model, i recently changed the fuel pump and injectors due to the original fuel pump wearing and metal filings blocked the injectors. I have flushed the fuel pipe system and had the fuel tank professionally cleaned. All the pipework and elec connections are back in place and have put new diesel along with inj cleaner. i have tried starting the car but to no avail, it appears to nearly start but not quite. -
Peugeot 206 - pug 206 1.9d fuel isnt reaching the engine 22 Jul 2010 (Forum)
he checked everything fair play, fuses etc, he tried easy start and it still wouldnt go. he said the fuel wasnt reaching the engine, we went to a petrol station and put a few quid in just in case the gague was broken but still nothing. we assumed it was one of the pumps.. i pulled off the pipe from the fuel filter and tried starting expecting diesel to go everywhere but nothing came out. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.6 TDCI Best way to prime diesel 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Can anyone shed light on the best way to prime the diesel on a C-Max? I can't see any hand primer in the fuel lines. Originally it had a leaking injector so replaced the injector seal. So far I have tried cracking the injectors but only getting a dribble at best. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-01-2018 Part 1 30 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Re Location, Location. It is far more likely that the majority of diesel getting past the rings occurs while the engine is running, under pressure, thousands of times per minute , for 10-20 minutes. Obviously diesel may fall into the sump whether or not the engine is turned on, but bear in mind that a diesel stops because fuel stops being injected, so turning it off during a cycle will be trivial in comparison. -
Ford focus 1.8 diesel - Can anyone give any advice? 16 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Hi guys!My wife was doing 30 miles/h in FORD focus 1.8 diesel(51 plate) when suddenly the oil and battery light came up,the car slowed down losing power. The steering became impossible to control so she pulled over and called RAC.The guy tried to jump start it but didn`t work, mentioning that not the battery is the problem.I had a look on the comments on internet and realized that could be so many different issues:cam belt, glow plugs or glow plug relay, fuel pump etc. Also I want to mention that when try to start it it does a clickin` noise(short),but is not the common starter motor noise...Thanx. -
Volkswagen Touareg - Diesel vs Hybrid test 28 Oct 2012 (Forum)
While full size V6 SUVs might seem irrelevant to most of a UK audience, the power/weight ratios are comparable with 'ordinary' 4 cylinder cars. The hybrid was more expensive than the diesel version and heavier. However it did have a better weight distribution and considerably better acceleration. But the TDi spanked it in terms of fuel economy at virtually all steady speeds. This was 'only' the 225 hp version of the 3.0 TDi. -
SAAB 9-5 3.0 V6 TID ARC - DIESEL INJECTION PUMP REPLACEMENT 26 Apr 2010 (Forum)
My SAAB 9-5 has developed an intermittent fuel delivery problem and needs to be replaced. My local saab specialist has said that the diesel injection pump needs to be replaced. The SAAB list price for the part is £1557.00 +VAT then there is the cost of labour at circa £400.00. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 06 2.2 CDTi Diesel tuning 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I'm not very clued up on these but I heard you should stay away from those chips you buy as they just increase the fuel mixture which is bad for the cat and other parts. Any advice on whether tuning will make a real difference and also good companies to deal with would be recommended :) Thanks! -

stupid question about CO2 29 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Can I ask a really stupid question? My car pumps out 184g CO2 per KM It will do about 900km on a tank of lets say 70 litres of diesel. now a gramme of CO2 weighs the same as anyother gramme so 184g x 900 km = 165.6 kg 70 litres of diesel - I think a litre of diesel is about 0.85kg - so therefore my 70l of DERV weighs about 60kg While I realise that adding another oxygen moecule to things will add weight, can it really add so much? -
MPG!! - Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S diesel 4 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have had a new Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S diesel for just over a month and am very pleased with it. However I have not been able to come close to the fuel consumption figures quoted by Ford. The company state 54mpg urban; 72mpg extra urban and 64mpg combined but I can manage only 53.7mpg combined. -
Ford Diesel - Problem Starting 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My '99 endura diesel died this morning. It's half full of fuel. It started perfectly OK but expired after a few hundred yards. I've checked the cambelt, and the camshaft's going round. It had a new cambelt kit fitted by a local indy 3 months ago.
