Diesel and heating oil 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It's nearly run out of oil, but no-one will supply me with less than 1000 litres, plus they're a bit funny about having the tank inspected first for corrosion etc. (it doesn't have any). It says on the burner to use No.1 heating oil. I don't use it often, but have nearly run out of oil. I recently changed the filter and cleaned the burner, but need more oil. So, can I use diesel instead of No.1 heating oil? That way I can just buy a little as and when. -
Heated/Electric Mirrors 3 May 2003 (Forum)
The heated mirrors I can find (via the fuse illustration on the compartment), which looks like a huge rectangluar block (a relay?) above the fuses. How can you remove them? The cover (it has Lucas on it) came off in my hand with the electric gubbins still attached to the board. -
Aviva App - legal? 5 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I've noticed the recent Aviva App advert on TV. Can I just check on the legality? It shows a phone in a windscreen mounted cradle and the car driver tapping the screen - Isn't this illegal now? -
"Smeary Windows" 30 Apr 2002 (Forum)
well - not smeary at all really, but it makes a good title. second hand car purchased, dealer price stickers peeled off, rectangular outline left on windscreen. White spirit? Vinegar and brown paper? Mr Sheen? -
Windscreen Wipers 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Amazingly (or stupidly) I've never replaced the wipers on my car. That's been because they've been fine up until recently when the rubber started to peel away but they still worked. Anyway - nipped into Ford before and bought a pair and just replaced them now. Swish aren't they? -
GPS Antenna location - BMW 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I am currently experiencing problems with a new speed camera detector (Micro Road Pilot) unit and would welcome any advice on the best GPS antenna location on a 2002 E46 320d SE, and would also appreciate any info regarding whether this model is fittied with a UV windscreen that could seriously impede the signal to the antenna. I have been in touch with the manufacturer`s technical team today and they are trying to blame the problem on the windscreen fitted to my car and refuse to accept any responsibility for the mal functioning of their unit, which I actually paid almost £100 to be hard wired by their distributor`s agent. -
Focus wet interior 31 May 2003 (Forum)
This panel was supposed to have been changed under warranty during the last wet period but the chap said it was the latest type - one with the collecter scoop and there was no need. There is still a gap between the panel and the windscreen towards the door post. Would this let water into the car? I removed the carpets and saw that the water was dribbling from the top left hand corner of the passenger footwell. There is also a gap on the driver side between the panel and the windscreen. -

Comparing Gas & oil heating. 15 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I use about 2000 litres of home heating of oil each year, is there any way to find out what the equivalent usage in gas consumption would have been. I am finding it hard to really compre the running costs. Here in N. Ireland we only have one gas company so there is very little competition apart from between oil and gas. -

1992 Clio 1.4 auto - no heat 31 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Since we've had it, the heaters have never blown out warm air, only cold. The temperature gauge rises as it should when the engine warms up but no heat comes out the vents. Any ideas, and if so, is it an easy fix? Many thanks as usual. Mark. -
No heating Pug 306 1.9 TD 16 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have a T reg 306 diesel and it is blowing cold air. I have changed the thermostat and also checked coolant levels which are fine. There is heat in the piping and having checked the air bleeding valve there is hot water which means the heater matrix is working and i can't think what else it could be. Any ideas would be most welcome as it is quite cold outside!! -

De-icing techniques. 1 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I put heat to full, rear window heater on and de-ice side quarter windows and mirrors first. I assume that the tiny amount of heat from the heater will be more useful than the advantage of having the heater matrix off to ecourage the coolant to heat quicker. -

Internal combustion, 60 years on 19 May 2007 (Forum)
All of this heat being stored in a matrix of special material.. How could that be used to provide energy on or off board the car? An example of systems, but what of the engine, surely in 60 years it would be a totally sealed unit, what would it take to achieve that?
