Rushmore says competition for quality used cars has intensified, even for the larger, less fuel-efficient models that have long been falling out of favour. "There has been lots of competition for the best cars, and the auctions have found their inventories dwindling," adds Rushmore.

  • Used Van Buying Guide: Volkswagen Caddy 2010-2015 16 Jun 2025 (News)
If it splutters or goes to reduced power limp home mode then it could be the fuel injectors. They’re known to fail, and expensive to fix. Ask if they’ve ever been replaced. The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves are a known weak point, it’ll go to low power mode if they’re failing.
  • Used Van Buying Guide: Renault Trafic 2001-2014 16 Jun 2025 (News)
Once the bearings are replaced, and shimmed correctly, the box will “go on” virtually indefinitely. Ask when, and if, the fuel injectors have been replaced. They fail due to water ingress, it more common on earlier examples. If it’s cutting out, or running roughly have them checked out. Have the EGR valve cleaned periodically, likewise check the rear brakes for binding and ask when the gearbox oil was last replaced.  An old van when it was replaced in 2014, the Trafic still has plenty of life left in it as a used purchase.
  • Used Van Buying Guide: Berlingo 2008-2016 22 Nov 2019 (News)
Blue HDI models would offer 100PS output. Citroen also offered the Berlingo as an electric or dual-fuel van, the former being limited to short urban delivery usage and little more than an experimental machine in reality. A production electric Berlingo was also offered in the 2016 Berlingo model range, though.

  • Historics 24th November Classic Car Auction Preview 22 Nov 2018 (News)
Lot 237 is my favourite car in the sale: a 1964 Peugeot 404 cabriolet. Sporting the desirable fuel-injected engine, this car is immaculate with perfect shut lines, outstanding paint; just lovely for next summer. It is estimated at £27,000 to £32,000. Lot 249 is an example of the now very rare MGA Twin Cam and this one is nicely presented with what look like the original seats.
  • Brexit – What does it mean for classics? 18 Jul 2016 (News)
While this is great news for UK exporters, and even for our very own cottage industries, who probably look after more classic cars than anywhere else, a great many components, tools and equipment are bought in. And, frankly, they’re going to get more expensive. As, indeed, is fuel. In turn, this will probably lead to inflation. And to top it off, the weak pound will mean that our rich heritage of cars, already plundered by overseas collectors, could well dwindle further, as foreign investors suddenly find they’re much cheaper to acquire, at least so long as we have a tariff-free European economy.
  • Curios: Rapport Forte 14 Feb 2014 (News)
Chris Humberstone recalled that, ‘…the Jaguar was regarded as the most attractive basis for such a car, particularly when the fuel injected 4.2-litre engine arrived. That generated new interest in the marque. We wanted a full-four seater, so we selected the regular XJ12 saloon as the standard base (rather than the XJ-S), with 3.4- and 4.2-litre engines optional.
  • Can run flats really run flat? 7 Nov 2011 (News)
Additionally, the tyre pressure monitoring system that is precluded by their fitment makes it much easier to keep tyres at recommended pressures, which can improve fuel consumption and, in the long run, save you money.  For a selection of tyre related Q&As, click here .
  • Small cars in the classifieds 21 Jun 2011 (News)
Downsizing is all the rage nowadays. There are numerous reasons for this – lower emissions, better fuel economy, lower purchase price and improved basic equipment levels are just a few of them. The best selling car in the UK at the moment is the Ford Fiesta, and that's reasonably small... But picking out a good value small car from the ocean of used vehicles on forecourts and in classified listings is a tricky task, with ex-driving school vehicles, dodgy mechanicals and a massive range of prices.

  • Brit team in Pikes Peak record attempt 13 Jul 2009 (News)
The 2.4-litre race engine has a high-output, prototype Garrett turbocharger, which adjusts to changes in atmospheric pressure. That - together with special, high-octane race fuel - normally delivers 950bhp, but 70 litres of nitrous oxide gas boosts the power output to a mind-numbing 1,150bhp. This will be Geoff's third trip to Pikes Peak with the car and he said of the event: "The start line at over 9,000 feet is high enough to leave anyone short of breath.
