  • "Which" reliability report 8 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Excellent: Ford / Honda / Hyundai / Lexus / Mazda / Suzuki / Toyota Good: Daihatsu / Kia / Mitsubishi / Nissan / Proton / Subaru Average: Chrysler / Daewoo / Jaguar / Jeep / Mini / Porsche / Skoda / Smart / Vauxhall Poor: Alfa Romeo / Audi / BMW / Citroen / Fiat / Mercedes Benz / Peugeot / Renault / Saab / Seat / Volvo / VW Oh how the mighty have fallen! _____ A few anomalies, the RX8 and C-Max suffered an above average % of Breakdown's where most Volvos, Vauxhalls and VWs were OK regarding breakdowns though clearly suffered in respect of Faults and Niggles, to use the "Which" terminology. _____
  • Goodbye Mondeo - Hello S60 18 May 2005 (Forum)
Well I've gone and done it, after many months of promising myself a move away from the Mondeo I've finally upgraded to a secondhand one company owner Volvo S60 2.0T SE which I collect this coming weekend. It's an 02 plate model with 87k and a full Volvo dealer service history. The car is in very good order, a nice light blue metallic colour. I was very impressed with it overall during the test drive, especially the comfort of the leather armchairs!

  • New car delivery times - delays 8 May 2004 (Forum)
For those fortunate enough to be buying a new car, what are typical delays for a new car built to order, ie not in stock at a dealer? I'm a bit puzzled for instance that for a Volvo XC90, local dealer is quoting about 9 months yet Autocar, What Car and Auto Express all have one as a long-term test vehicle, and Volvo are still avertising the XC90 quite heavily. Same sort of position with BMW X5, dealer again quoting about 9 months for delivery but there is extensive advertising....and should the marketing bods responsible for these cars get the chop for getting the production versus sales demand figures so far out?
  • High mileage estates 30 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Very good shape for year. Do these engines and cars last as don't see many on road today. I also considered an older volvo estate maybe 740 or 940 around H, or J reg. Most have about 125,000 miles + on them. Body looks OK, are these a better bet and is say 140.000 miles on a 2.3l 940 volvo going to last or a bit too tired at that age?
  • 6 or 7 seater 11 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I am in a position where I need to have a car that can seat 6 (for the school run), but still have the flexibility and loadspace for normal family motoring (2 adults + 3 kids + luggage, and trips to the tip with a bootful of garden rubbish!). I don't want a large MPV (i.e. Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra) and am looking at the Volvo 850/V70 (Yes I'm turning into my Dad!!) with 2 seats in the boot, or the Peugeot 406 with 2 in the boot. Is the Volvo worth the extra money (or higher mileage at the same price)? Are there any alternatives?

  • Advertising 5 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Thanks to the respondents to my earlier message Re: Dilemma a little while ago I have decided to go along the route of disposing the Volvo privately (results of MOT permitting!) My new dilemma is where and how to place an ad. Remember the car is a 94L Volvo 850 T5 saloon with 82k miles on the clock. Should I go the conventional route ie. local paper or use one of the regional trader magazines (eg.

  • TBD - What next (after a Volvo XC40) 24 Jun 2024 (Forum)
We have a top of a range Volvo XC40, its Plug in Hybrid and absolutely loaded with extras (built for a dealer demonstrator and bought by us in 2021).  Beginning to think what we might replace it with when the PCP ends.  We are paying eye watering monthly payment albeit for a fabulous car, but job changes since 2021 and approaching retirement lead me to ask ...
  • Volvo XC90 - I could really do with some advice on my Volvo d5 30 Jul 2023 (Forum)
I could really do with some advice. I purchased a 2008 xc90 d5 auto 110000 on the clock about 5 months ago. All been fine. Last month on a journey it...
  • Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - Sold the Outback! 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
, the Mercedes ML did do a seven seat model in the Mk1 version but it was a dog to drive and I will not have a Jeep under any circumstances. That left talking either Japanese or Volvo. The Japanese (Shogun, Landcruiser, Navarra etc) were good value but after an Outback rather basic inside, slow and uneconomical and I wanted the appeal of a comfortable car. So Volvo it was. There are a lot for sale, but I really want in-built SatNav and the Winter Pack so it reduced my choice somewhat.
  • Volvo XC70 - Can I drive my new car without the new keepers ? 25 Jan 2023 (Forum)
So I've insured and taxed the car, it's a long story but I forgot to get the new keepers slip when I went to see the owner and mechanic fixing the car....
  • Genesis 25 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I was so impressed and it awoke the petrolhead within. It led to a series of interesting, slightly left field choices which followed, from Volvo 240 GLT, 440 Turbo, Audi 80 16v Sport and Honda Civic VTi. He didn’t half waste money on cars from that Saab onwards but I am today grateful that he did.

  • Any - Cars that get the tin worm 22 Sep 2018 (Forum)
If you live in a dry climate then the problem isn't too bad but our weather is harsh on cars. For the last few years I've had Volvos and Mercedes. My Volvos have had no rot at all, 240, 740, 340, V70. The Mercedes c220 x2, CLK, SLK have been mostly ok apart from one c class which got tatty round the edges but to be fair Mercedes sorted it.
