Vw Passat 07 plate - Just bought a used car which has a issue 14 Sep 2016 (Forum)
At first I couldn't find anything wrong with it. The test drive felt smooth and I left the engine running and I couldn't find any issues. I purchased the car on the 1st. Driving it home I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel which has now being resolved (after two trips to the dealer) The main issue I seem to be having is after drive down the motorway or for a fair distance I get a strong vibration in the cabin. -
Audi S3 - Quality of HJ Q&A 27 May 2016 (Forum)
Remember, pressures rise as heat gets into the tyres so that 38/35 is the hot pressure, not the cold pressure. Inflate to 38/35 cold and you will get 42/39 after a motorway run. poor answer from HJ. No mention of the car owner taking resposibility and carying out normal, BASIC, reccommended checks that should be carried out by all drivers. this is a performance car FFS. -
Citroen C5 - C5 bad cold start, loss power under 2000rpm 5 Feb 2016 (Forum)

Landrover Freelander 2 - Freelander 2 Negative equity on HP 24 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The car is due tax and MOT at end of October and probably could do with new tyres over the winter so I dont know whether to just accept I was stitched up in the first place adnd cut my losses or perseve and hope that theres no big bills. The Landrover warranty runs out also at end of October and Im just scared that something big might happen. I can borrow another car occaisonally and will likely be going into a job with a company car in the next few months so wouldnt be keeping it long term anyway. -
Mini one D - Alternator problem? Mini one 05 plate. 29 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Today I went to do some shopping, I drove around 8 miles in the the car, which has been running with no problems, apart from the odd intermittent electrical light (I think sensor fault maybe), however after stopping for around 10 minutes and returning to the car, the car wouldn't open with central locking, the car had no power what so ever and wouldn't start. -
debts after death?? 27 Jul 2015 (Forum)
His mother died about 3 months ago and he handled it well, received lots of support and appeared to accept it and move on. However, unbeknown to him, his mother had run up several debts to the tune of about three thousand pounds. Now some of the creditors are chasing and pestering him for the money and it is clearly upsetting him. I have asked him to gather all the paperwork and bring it to me and I will go through it and try to help. -
Honda Civic 2001-2005 1.4 Petrol - HELP! Problems after suspension work 26 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Hi guys, Before anyone says I should have got this done at the garage please bear in mind that I have a young family, we are broke and can barely afford to run the car anyway. So I have to do these things myself as cheaply as possible! My 2002 1.4 Honda Civic failed the MOT on front tyres, shocks, track rod ends and anti-roll bar drop links. -
Peugeot 308 - Wide range of rear tyre pressures 15 Jun 2015 (Forum)
My question is, whether there is any sensible compromise. Until a couple of weeks ago, I had been running the car on unladen pressures, 2.4 bar all round. However, I then had to drive from Hampshire up to Edinburgh and back - going on my own and returning with brother, wife and a bootful of thier luggage. -
Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 Petrol - Replacement battery - Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 Petrol 30 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I called up AA guys for a jumpstart (and to establish the reason behind battery dying all of a sudden). The guy was helpful and jumpstarted the car. left is the engine running for good 10-15 min. but as soon as he removed the battery charger the car died..he said the battery is done for good and i needed to replace it.) The multimeter (or whatever that device is) gave him the following readings VOLTS - 11.29V MEASURED - 62 EN (A) RATING - 390 EN (A) He was asking me to pay around 85 pounds for a 079 type battery which he said was the right fit. -
Mazda MPV 2.0 diesel - White/blue smoke on startup. 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
The car is due an oil change and air filter probably but feels and sounds like it's running fine to me. My knowledge of things mechanical is very limited, however. Any thoughts as to what the problem is and how best to proceed would be much appreciated. -
Citroen Berlingo 1.9D 54 plate - 'Unsolvable' over-heating problem! 27 Dec 2014 (Forum)
This morning I changed the radiator hoses and thoroughly bled the system. I just took it for a run up and down the M3 and thought it was solved, but no, the temp eventually started creeping towards 100. Once it gets there, it takes quite a while to come back down even coasting and blipping the throttle to maintain coolant flow. -
Fiat Panda 1.2 Active - Lumpy idle & hesitation while driving 25 Dec 2014 (Forum)
This was changed last week ( I still think that £30 + VAT for a small bore breather + £40 fitting is taking the ...) and the car still isn't running quite right. It still has a lumpy lide although it revs cleanly when in neutral. When it is driven, there is a definite hestation pretty much throughout the rev range, although i can't say that I have explored the upper end! -
Citroen Xsara Picasso Diesel - Can't engage fifth gear 26 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi I have a 2004 Diesel Xsara Picasso with about 150,000 on the clock. So far it has been extremely reliable, maybe partly because it is used mostly on motorway runs rather than around town. Yesterday I set off to return home after visiting friends, coming onto the motorway I found the gearbox wouldn't go into fifth gear. I was able to drive home in fourth OK and first to fourth and reverse all engage absolutely normally. -
Mitsubishi Deliva SpaceGear 2.8 Turbo - No backup from specialist dealer 2 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I have recently bought a Mitsubishi Delica, now I know its old car 18 years, but the bodywork is in good nick and it runs well. The dealer I bought it from advertises as a specialist in this type and it came with a 12 month MOT with no advisories. On delivery the speedo and rear fog lamp didnt work, within two weeks I went to get the tracking checked and was told three of the four tyres should have had advisories due to cracking and depending on the tester might have failed whilst a fourth tyre had a puncture repair in the sidewall. -
Daihatsu Skywing (1986) - Dirty Daihatsu Tuning 21 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Their meters are allegedly "tuned" to read low anyway, so it may be running dirtier than that. The plugs look OK though. Couldn't remember the UK MOT emission limits, never having failed a UK test on emissions (surprisingly enough) , so I checked them online. -
ford focus 1.8 tdci - injector/fuel pressure problems? 3 Mar 2014 (Forum)
i took it to my local diesel specialists, who came highly reccommended who done a full diagnostic and leakage test. the fault came back to injector no 1 exess leakage and they advised replacing no 1 injector and also replacing the fuel filter. this i did at a cost of £220 for injector supply and fit and the fuel filter and the diagnostic was £65. upon collecting the car yesterday it seemed to run fine until the exact same symptoms started again! i rang the garage and he said to bring it back over and so far all i know is the same fault code p0251 injector pump fuel metering control A malfunction has come up yet again!!! -
Kia Rio - Impact of Air Con and Tyre Width on your MPG 17 Jan 2014 (Forum)
However some data are available e.g. see the entries (see link below) for the Kia Rio 1.1 litre CRDI 5dr manual in three columns - clearly showing a significant increase in fuel consummption when aircon is added (i.e. when going from Grade 1 to Grade 1 Air ISG or VR7) taking the EU Standard Test Procedure 'combined' figure from 88.3 mpg to 78.5 mpg I.E. a 12.5 % increase in consumption from 3.2 to 3.6 litres per 100Km - all running on 185/65 R15 tyres. Additionally when the same vehicle with air con is shod with wider 195/55 R16 tyres as in the Grade 2 model, there is a further degradation from 78.5 mpg to 74.3 mpg. I.E. a further 5.6 % increase in fuel consumption from 3.6 to 3.8 litres per 100Km. -
Stuck on which car to buy, any suggestions? 2 Dec 2013 (Forum)
General requirements: - fit 3 kids in the back, and either the large dog or luggage in the boot (estate or 4x4) - comfortable to do 2000+ miles per month, on a+b roads in scotland - won't get stuck in 2-6 inches of snow easily - budget 7-16k, ideally around 10k, looking in the used market - something that would be expected to last 2 years comfortably - indifferent on running costs, prefer to keep them lower but also prepared to average out 25mpg if the car is say 11k or under. - either a newer cheap estate (2010+) that feels new, as an example a 12 plate avensis is exactly the same as an 08 plate avensis and thus doesn't feel "new" (as in from this decade) and is hard to justify, an 11/12 plate mondeo 2.0 deisel estate does feel "new", as does a 13 plate avensis after they updated the interior and console etc. -
Ford 2011 Zetec Mondeo 140 tdci - Ford Mondeo 2011- Engine malfunction light!! 24 Aug 2013 (Forum)
In addition, when this thrust in acceleration comes, so too does the engine malfunction light. This thrust in acceleration causes the engine to reverberate slightly. When the car runs in this way I also notice that my mpg takes a noticeable hit also!! Please help!! I really don't know what to do. -
Economical Used Car - Budget up to 4k. 5 Aug 2013 (Forum)
:P), I can do most common repairs myself (Have done droplinks, struts, top mounts, bearings, balljoints, brake pads and discs, and can service my own car too) - My thinking with this is, I would very much like a vw passat tdi, running costs ok, but when it comes to repairs, tyres etc its getting pricey for me. At the moment I am liking the VW polo, but dont know much about them. In my price range, and not realy wanting a car older than 5 years , I will only get a 1.2 base spec or maybe a "match" spec.
