  • In Praise of LGV drivers 9 Oct 2006 (Forum)
As some more sensible contributors have already said it goes on all the time, deal with it. The importance of the LGV to the everyday running of GB plc has already been done to death. My message is the roads are there for all of us. So give your humble trucker a break. After all he/she is in reality a much better and safer driver than you. ;<)
  • Outrageous 11 Jul 2006 (Forum)
A few 100 yards away I could see a recovery lorry picking up a motorcycle with BiB close at hand. Then I heard a bang - now what!? Looked up to see that Zafira woman had run into the back of Impreza man! Impreza man gets out (as you do) and comes to view the damage (most of which is hidden from my view by the bulk of the Zafira) and looks expectantly at Zafira woman who's still in the driving seat, acting as if nothing has happened.
  • 306 406 HDi timing belt / pulley tick 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Note:3 I've never met a customer who didn't throw a wobbly being quoted £15 for a t-belt and £90 for a plastic pulley Note:4 I run a 306 myself, now on 3rd belt and 3rd pulley, all fitted together. smooth as silk. SOOOO...... now then, any discussion/comments/suggestions? (other than don't get involved, that is, too late now!)
  • Car's The Star in Japanese 14 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Now then, I could care less about missing the football results and What Doctor Mugabe Did Today Shock Horror, but I do get teed off when I can't enjoy the re-runs of The Car's The Star which are currently being aired, especially as I want to tape them. As HJ pointed out, this is an excellently produced programme, and the choice of classics it covers is impeccable.
  • Bought another cheapie. 8 Jul 2025 (Forum)
Her cousin is returning to the UK for three months and wants a cheap car instead of hiring one. Plan in mind is to buy it, run it for buttons then sell it on with minimal loss. I do like this kinda thing. I was limited in scope by the budget of £2,000, a need for low insurance, enough space for elderly parent plus walker frame, reliability and minimal cost overall.
  • Toyota Yaris Cross (2023 model) - 12v battery issues Hybrid 13 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Toyota seems to be oblivious to this issue and issues unhelpful advice about driving so many miles a week or leaving the car running in your drive for an hour in "ready" mode (could be illegal?). I don't think this issue is limited to Toyota but there must be a solution?  To suggest a solar trickle charger or similar is not the answer for a lady who is almost 80 years old and not mechanically minded.
  • Need a new to me car 1 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Having done a lot of reading since (and scared myself half to death), thought I would come back to get more advice on a forum that seems a good one to me.  And I have run a forum myself previously, not about cars obviously, so understand what makes a forum good. OK, have decided to possibly spend a little more than the original £8K I was looking at to get the right car for hubby and self.
  • Toyota Prius - Hybrid battery 11 Jun 2024 (Forum)
After looking on Money Saving Expert, they say that although there is an expensive up front cost, hybrids are cheap to run. So now I know which model Toyota I'll get, the Prius (Corrolla hybrids are too expensive for me). When I tell a few people about what I'm looking for I'm being told to steer away from hybrids because the batteries will end up needing to be replaced and your looking at thousands of pounds to replace them.
  • TOYOTA ESTIMA EMINA 1996 - 96 Estima Injector spill control Electrical Fault 19 Feb 2024 (Forum)
(no diesel coming to the injectors) However,When i disconnect/Intercept the black wire (Earth which runs from the ECU)from the spill control valve and ground  it directly to the body,it does not make the ticking sound eventually Diesel comes to the injectors(bleed) and the bus starts, but  the engine revs itself up to 2000 RPMs with Diesel Knock and excess whitish smoke which i presume means excess fuel presumably as a result of the valve not being correctly controlled by the ECU.

  • Peugeot 207 - Stalling when Cold 10 Nov 2022 (Forum)
I have ordered a scan tool to see how the fuel/air mixture is as I do not get any error codes and it does not look like it is misfiring or anything else, when it heats up it runs as smoothly. Please if you have any other suggestion as what I should check to see what the hell is going on would be great as it is the car I am using daily to get to work. Thank you!
  • Blackbird 8 Sep 2022 (Forum)
What he decided was to do was to write, produce, direct and star in this film where he plays a retired super spy/assasin type, now retired and running a hot spot in the Caribbean.  The kicker of course is that he funded the film himself. The reason given being that he didn't want to waste time looking for backers! (the actual reason could be that any potential backer didn't want anything to do with it) Funny thing though, that old saying, "there is no such thing as bad publicity" will probably apply here.
  • Hyundai i20 1.2 se - Quick car review 19 Jun 2022 (Forum)
My work is only around a 10 mile round trip and I cycle it a couple of times a week if the weather's okay, so I reckon it's doing probably a genuine 42mpg which is not bad for such a short run. I'll only really know if this is a car i would recommend, if in a few years it has been reliable, so it's early days, but so far so good.
  • XBUS light electric modular utility vehicle 21 Nov 2021 (Forum)
This is a German company who have come up with a brilliantly simple modular light electric utility vehicle concept. You have the base architecture which includes the chassis, running gear and cab. On to this you choose from 8 modules, whichever suits your needs best, but the beauty is (if you have the space) you can choose more than one and swap them at will. Apparently no special tools are required.
  • Inconsiderate parking - what can I do? 8 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I have a long running problem where one of my neighbours or his visitors park opposite my drive which can make reversing out of my drive tricky. My street is very narrow so even a small obstruction can cause problems - usually the cars are parked partly on the verge which gives a bit more room but for the last three days I have had a visitor's car parked entirely on the road opposite my drive which has been a real nuisance.
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta MK6.5 - Passenger footwells leak 23 Mar 2021 (Forum)
All we found is the sponge square pad in the corner is saturated with water & it looks like the water is travelling down a channel to leak, only slightly, into the drivers side. Also, there is a regular water trail down the passenger side near to the door which runs by the bonnet release handle. When Ibought the car it had less than 3000 miles on it - could this have affected seal integrity as the tyre walls were cracked & wiper blades were perished.
  • Abs and handbrake light 10 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Now before we replaced the shoes when we turned the wheel by hand we could hear the noise, after we replaced the shoes and turned the wheel you couldn’t hear it. So take the car a run around the block and couldn’t hear anything. But later while going to town the minute I get to the main road the noise is there, but now I have an abs light and handbrake light having a disco. I parked up stuck the handbrake on and tried reversing, the handbrake is working fine it is holding the car.
  • Honda Jazz - Honda 2 Sep 2020 (Forum)
And why would you choose a twelve year old car worth £2k tops to do this to? I’m just glad the vehicle tax had at least a month to run thus resulting in a tax refund. Had the tax been about to expire there would have been no refund and I’d be oblivious to the fact the vehicle’s ownership title had been stolen.   I asked the guy at DVLA if this happened a lot and he said  “No “ which surprised me.
  • BMW 2 Series Active Tourer - BMW 225xe plug-in hybrid: owner's diary 1 Jul 2020 (Forum)
--  I can't make any sensible fuel economy calculations yet, as there's still more than half a tank of petrol to use up from when I collected it. --  the manual's running-in instructions say "don't exceed 4.500rpm until 1,200 miles have been completed", although the petrol engine hasn't actually started up for the past 3 days, so it may take me more miles than that ....
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso - Violent engine Shake Shudder vibration 21 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I have previously had outstanding advice here! Thankyou Honest John.  13/05/2020 I still have the car. I have not tried to run it. I had a good look at the crankshaft pulley that has rubber etc to take the shock out of the timing belt. It appears central and OK. I have heard these fail and cause violent vibration.  Decision time.
