Honda Prelude (1992 - 1996) - 94 2.0 Ignition switch malfunction ??? HELP PLEASE 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
The ignition switch turns on ok..... everything powers up, all dash lights etc. turn the key to the engine start position and engine fires up as usual first time............. when you then let go of the key to return to normal running position ...... all the dashboard lights go out and the engine stops ................... only way I can keep it running is to start engine and then keep rotational pressure on the key but turn it back only part of the way to stop the starter motor engaging. -

Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 Running very rough after 'kangarooing' 18 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Once home I had a quick look in the failing light but could not see anything immediately obvious wrong in the engine area (bits hanging off etc!). The engine still starts OK but still runs 'rough' and 'lumpy' and you can here a pronounced 'pulsing' from the exhaust. The exhaust has also moved as the tailpipe now just touches the rear bumper and has melted it slightly but I could not see if it had come off a hanger. -
Skoda Octavia I (1998 - 2004) - MAF or Turbo VW group 1.9TDi (yr 2003) 16 Apr 2009 (Forum)
have run a 2003 110bhp (none-PD) diesel for last year. Intermittent fault, where occasionally it felt like the turbo had ceased to run BUT it was easily cured by stopping and switching off and on, and turbo would reappear. -
Worst roundabout for Lane discipline / red running 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
You also see many who haven't a clue and do hold everyone up like the artic this morning who changed lanes only to think he was wrong and to change back, then realised he was right in the first place! The worst set of lights I have ever seen for people running the red is exit slip road from the northbound M42, you would need 5 or 6 bobbies for EVERY phase of the lights if you wanted to catch everyone who did it in the evening rush hour. Is this the worst in the UK - or do you know different? -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 2002 2.0 hdi running problems 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, my 2001 (110) hdi xsara was running fine until i went to start it one morning and it wouldnt start, (it would turn over , maybe catch for a second and stop). Got it recovered to local independant garage where they started with a process of elimination, ie changing the fuel filter & the low pressure pump in the tank, (got it started and idling but still would cut out when driven).Engine management light came on. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.3 Drivers door only opens when the engine i 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I had no problems yesterday but I asked my dad to start my car this morning but he couldn't get the door open. I have since worked out the engine has to be running before it can open, if the engine is not running the door also locks itself when you close it,. I can live with this it is a fairly minor problem, I assume its that the lock is not reading the code on the keys and thus thinks its a robber trying any old Ford key, but when the engine is running it knows I am not a robber and opens the locks. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1995 1.5TD Timing Belt Change 13 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi Decided to change the T.belt on My Corsa 1.5TD it didn't go very well I managed to get the Pump pulley to jump a tooth or two when turning the Crank. So it wasn't running to well. hard to start and when it did running very rough indeed. So took the Belt back off made sure everything was lined up correctly. Put a couple of lock Bolts in to the Cam & Pump pulleys. Used Drill Bits the first time, think thats why the Pulley jumped. -

Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 95 1.9td hydractive suspension problems 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Bought car last December and one of the attractions was that the previous owner had had a lot of the things fixed that were wrong with my previous one, including 7 new spheres(it's hydractive) I've always thought it was riding a bit hard.I've changed the LHM,and cleaned the filters. The accumulator sphere didn't look as new as the others so I changed that which has improved things but it still don't feel right. It does sink a bit when left sometimes.I gave it a bounce today (engine running) the rear felt O.K but the front feels a lot stiffer than my old one(non hydractive)did. After standing idle for a while the front is more or less solid and the rear is stiffer than when running(I think). It's a lovely car otherwise and I'd really like to get it running 100%.Any of you citroen experts out there got any advice please? -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2003 Dual fuel DOC 1.6. Oil loss from the engine. 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Exhaust is slightly sooted at the rear box exit pipe and once or twice starting a small puff of blue smoke has been observed that burns off very quickly. Say for every 300 miles (whilst running on LPG) I am adding a good 1/2 litre of semi synth as top up. I have not run the vehicle for the same distance on petrol though to see if the same happens with oil loss then. I was told by the dealership, AMS of Grimsby, that oil loss was to be expected due to increased running temperatures. 1/2 a litre for every 300 miles though? -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 2001 - Air Con Faulty 4 Oct 2007 (Forum)
The air con then seems to continue with little sucks from time to time. I have also noticed that if the engine is turned off with the air con running there is a sound similar to a jet engine running down. I have checked the electronics with a diagnotics reader (but not with the air con running) and this did not show faults I suspect that I have a slow leak and will get someone local to have a look, but any ideas of cause and cost would be appreciated. -
Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 98 1.8 petrol poor running 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
When turning the ignition the engine turns over but does not start unless I press the accelerator and even the it takes a few seconds to catch properly. Also when the engine is running in stationary, when I press the accelerator to move off, the rev count goes down and I have to depress the accelerator harder in order for the car to move. My garage say that the plugs are sparking and I would need to take the car to a diagnostic centre to find the problem as they do not have a diagnostic machine and can't seem to put their finger on the problem. -
01 Nissan Maxima - Running Rough 16 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima 2litre V6, Over the last 2 years it has had the coils replaced 3 times and the ECU changed and O2 sensor changed . car still runs rough only fires on 4 or 5 cylinders most of the time . Nissan UK say this problem is common to this model , they do not have a clue how to cure it . THe USA Nissan website are full of the same problems on this model only affects 1999 year up models not the earlier ones, It is long out of warranty and the repairs are expensive but futile Nissan have only charged me 50% labour due to the problems but do not seem any nearer to a solution. -
Cavalier SRI 16V engine mgmt codes 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Also is there any way of confirming it is a Simtec 56 (so I know I have the right codes) and also because it says in Topbuzz that you should have the engine running for the Symtec system, but I can only get the light to flash the codes with the engine off/ignition on. When the engine is running the Mgmt light just comes hard on -
Whats the cheapest car to buy and run? 12 Jul 2006 (Forum)
If you have a budget of £500, what car is the best blend of fuel consumption, parts prices, insurance, servicing costs and reliability. My vote goes to the Reliant Rialto. It was by far the cheapest car ive ever run by a long shot. They may have been expensive when new, but as used cars they are cheap enough and always easy to sell on. Mine averaged 53 mpg on unleaded and cost £180 a year insurance fully comp. -
Scenic 2 fails to start every June 11 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Once again filled up with petrol and could not start the thing,Engine turns and turns but no sign of a firing.then after several goes it catches but no power unable to limp off forcourt, finally can pick up enough revs to get going-runs lumpy for several miles or just before I can get it back to a Renault dealer. It then runs fine no fault found says Renault dealer. This has now happened 3 times since new, and the strange thing is it happens every June almost to the day . -
Volvo 240 1993 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I have tested all sensors, no fault codes and checked all fuses as these are always prone to corrosion. Wnet for a run but car playing up and dose not clear. Suspect fuel pump but it is running anthough the current it takes 3.5 amps at first falls to 1.6 amps after 1 minute, high pressure pump appears noisey but is running. -
LPG/Calor Gas cylinders 13 Aug 2004 (Forum)
According to him, many cars out there are LPG converted but those with older cars are not using the LPG tanks but putting "Calor" gas cylinders in the boot and running from those instead as it is cheaper. Now obviously in the UK this would be very naughty as like red diesel there is no road fuel duty on gas cylinders but in theory how easy would it be to convert an LPG car to run from cylinders? -
Passat 110tdi power loss 3 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I was then told the turbo was faulty, a replacement would cost £1010 ! I then trawled the backroom and found reference to a small hose. This runs from the large black piping running from the intercooler to the inlet manifold, it is right in the middle of the engine at the back. The hose exits this pipe from below and is only about 4mm in diameter, it then disappears into the wiring which heads off into the ECU.
