  • Elvis Lives! 10 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Seeing as most of today's posts have been too depressing for words, except for the glimmer of sense on the courtroom update, thought I would share a lighter moment from today with you all. A bin lorry has run into some poor guys house in the Midlands today. This chap is an Elvis fan, and said bin lorry has demolished his front room together with most of his memorabilia. Just a sort of statue of the great man himself survived.
  • Suzuki Wagon R 1.3 info please. 23 Mar 2002 (Forum)
As my previous thread on this question seems to have died and the only replies (though welcome) refered to other vehicles, I would wish to ask again, Could any owners or persons familiar with the vehicle (perhaps in the trade) offer any hints or tips as to what the owner should look out for with a new Wagon R ? Any forewarnings of possible maintenance, build or running problems would be much appreciated. I am aware of the recalls on earlier models from details on HJs website. Can anyone please advise the cam belt change interval ? Thank you. petel@clara.co.uk
  • Vectra 2.0 Di fuel pump 8 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I wrote a while ago with the problem of a vectra that ran sluggish from cold every now and then. Well the time has come where it's not running at all and on quick inspection they think it's the fuel pump and the none official price quote was very high indeed. Does anyone know how long these units should last for miles/years and if it's worthwhile/possible to buy reconditioned or non vauxhall units, the guy at the garage suggest the pumps cost from £700 - 2000 + VAT depending on type and needless to say I really can't afford that.
  • Cam belt problem? 21 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Looking in the handbook it states the belt should be changed at 72k, I bought it at 73k and assume it has not been done by the previous owner (is it possible to tell just by looking at it?) Current milage is 90k and apart from the formentioned noise it runs fine. Apreciate any ideas/suggestions, thanks.
  • Brake dust 15 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Driving is mostly stop and start town, thought it might be this but at the weekend did a longish open road run. Started with clean wheels, same result.
  • It's what this site is good at. 5 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Have a look at the two recent topics - 'Ford Diesel 1600 problem'. And 'Paint problems'. Two ordinary run of the mill topics asked by people with a genuine question. And look at the response - loads of genuine useful advice about the diesel engine, and a pretty definitive opinion regarding car polish giving two sensible options.
  • Pear shaped feista!! 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
My partners 95M 1.1 Fiesta has finaly given up the ghost and is only running on three cylindars. It was using loads of oil anyway so there doesnt seem much point in taking the head off for a look. What should I do get a recon engine or just ship it to my local auction and get rid and start again?
  • Electrical problem 26 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Sometimes, when the engine is fully warmed up and doing 3000 rpm, this escalates into a chatter which occasionally triggers the central locking. No effect on running of the car. Further info - Car is kept outdoors, has no known leaks and is free of body damage. C-L is factory-fitted but linked to an original-fit Peugeot remote alarm which is no longer operative and is switched out.
  • THE TRUTH ABOUT ME. 19 Nov 2001 (Forum)
i am twenty one, i am currently on a mechanic course at gateshead college, i have been restoring cars since i was 11, the only reason i am on the mechanics course is because i can repairs old cars, but cannot repair these modern computerised gadgety cars, i have been welding since i was 14, and i now have the body repairs as being perfect, i also help my mother run 'car boot sales' at the linskill centre in north shields, and at the springfield community centre in forest hall. if you want to know more, please let me know.
  • Cavalier engine sensors 1 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I have owned it for the last 35000 miles and it's now on its 3rd camshaft sensor and appears to be needing it's second crank sensor. Is there any reason why these should go so often. Also while the car appears to run with a failed camshaft sensor am I correct in supposing that the crankshaft sensor failing will cause the engine to stop. In all other respects it has proven to be agood car. Thanks in anticipation Chris Madley
  • Mini 25 6 Jun 2001 (Forum)
However I have discovered that it's a bit of a rare beast, 1 of 3500 so being an appreciator of the classic car and motoring heritage I would rather see it go to an enthusiast for either restoration or the parts being put to good use to restore another "25".Where do I go, I have tried several Mini sites but they are all dealer run or want money to advertise with them.
  • Rover flywheel wear 4 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether old style Rover 200's (1990-95 models) are prone to wear on the teeth of their flywheels as my 92,000 mile 214 is grinding its starter on start up (as though I'd try to start it while the engine is running) The fault is inetermittent but getting worse. I have looked & there appears to be some wear on the teeth in the four areas the flywheel comes to rest. This is annoying because two years ago I replaced the flywheel as the old one had severe wear on the teeth.
  • 205 tailgate leaks 10 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Usually it is mopped up by the sound insulation, but if the car is parked sloping forwards the water can run down the channels under the back seats. It is possible to divert the flow from the drain holes, but my question is - where does it get in? The possibilities seem to be - flexible connections at top near hinges - around glass (bonded - unlikely) - around washer nozzle or wiper spindle - leaking supply pipe to washer - around lock barrel - around studs behind exterior trim panel Has anyone out there solved this problem already?
  • Peugeot 206 automatics 28 Feb 2001 (Forum)
After an exchange of seven letters and several months Peugeot now say that the "operation of the gear box compares with any other 206". I suspect that the problem lies with the electronics controlling the slow running as I had a similar problem with a Volvo which Volvo said was normal but the local agent cured. Has anyone had a similar problem and had it fixed?
