• LR Discovery Power Loss 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
  I have a 94 3.9 Auto V8 which after having the oil cooler pipes changed developed an intermitent power loss. It can happen at any speed and the revs just drop to nothing. If I hit the throttle it will pick up. I've tried keeping the throttle in the same position and knocking the auto into neutral and immediately the engine revs dramatically.

  Guys, I have recently bought a Mondeo 1.8 LX TD. I changed the glow plugs myself and replaced the air filter and the oil, oil filter. while changing the glow plugs I disconnected the trottle cable from top of the diesel pump, and manage put it back together afterwards. since then whenever i start the car in the mornings, I get alot of smoke when starting up, it has a funny smell and the smoke is dark.

  Hi all, Hope you can help me on this one chaps..... I bought this escort with a suspected water pump and thermostat gone, i changed water pump, cam belt, drive belt as it was cracked, still did not start and it was blowing the water out of reservoir, so i changed the head gasket, run a flat edge along head and it was straight, put it all back together and gave it an oil change, it started but lots of white smoke comin out of exhaust, took it for a run after running it half hour and it was blowing white smoke out, checked dipstick and its clean oil, checked coolant and it does not seem to be going down, when you start it it takes a little while to start probably 4 -5th turn and only blows a little bit of smoke until you rev it then it blows out smoke, any help with this would be fantastic thanks

  I have insisted on intermediate oil & filter changes and they don't really want to do that either! Now, I know that modern cars are supposed to run for ever on modern fluids, (I don't agree, by the way), but my question is - "Am I being in too much of a "belt & braces" mode in my requests - how often should one have the fluids changed?"

  Hi Bought approved used VW Crafter from VW 6 months warranty. Once warranty expired started having issues. Oil light on topped up oil. Excessive oil consumption 1 litre every 3 -4 weeks. Replaced turbo to no avail. Had engine replaced to no avail. DPF lights constantly coming on despite repeatedly cleaning DPF.

  Theres no water or anything in the oil. I was thinking that maybe I should give it an engine flush followed by oil and filter change.........Any thoughts? Thanks, Andrew (new member)

  The car's done around 34,000 miles, and had an oil change 6 months ago. Is an oil flush really (pardon the pun) snake oil, i.e. no real benefit? I'm a bit worried it could loosen some crud and cause problems with the engine, which would be difficult to prove and expensive to fix as the car will be out of warranty shortly.

  Does anyone know where you can buy Elf oil apart from at Renault dealers? Specifically the Evolution SXR 5W-40 fully synthetic stuff. The Scenic is almost half way through its ludicrous 18k service interval, and I'm going to change the oil and filter myself.

  I have spent the morning ringing round for an oil service for my 2002 A4 TDi. Out of the 8 garages I got quotes from, 5 said they use generic oil and will be fine if I change it every 10,000 miles. Luckily I know different and I want longlife oil thats 507 00 spec.

  I have today serviced my sisters ford KA, but in doing the oil change, (which I hate doing, so I did it first) I came across a small problem. The oil filter is well and truely STUCK!! I've tried all manner of removal tools, even tried (as a very last resort) pushing a screwdriver through it to leaver it round with, all with little success!

  hi i having problems with me renault clio 1.4 16v it miss firing and as i' am in motion the car will cut off and after a few times trying to start it then it will start but the miss fireing will still be there not much power as well..i have done a service changed oil,oil filter, fuel filter, plugs, air filter please could you help.

  hi iv just changed the turbo on my scenic it runs an drives but a bit sluggish in first gear its not responding revs seem to be low ,also when the turbo blew there was a lot ov oil in the air ducts which i have cleaned ,the air duct pipe going into the intercooler keeps blowing off ,i think there could be blockage mabey oil. what do you think, thanx blue1965

  Hey guys, just a small question. Would you purchase a car knowing that if you forgot to check your weekly oil levels or missed your service by a few miles that your car can have an engine run-away....(speed up on its own accord without user input)? The fix for an engine run-away is an oil change! So, would you buy one knowing this?

  Can't really remember, but I think I just fitted another screw and hoped for the best - naughty, naughty. Dropped many a sump plug into the waste oil bucket during oil changes.

  Recently bought our 3rd 405TD. The position of the oil sump drain plug differs from the other 2 we had. Could someone tell me what the 13mm size bolt below what I assume is the actual drain plug, is for? Am about to do an oil change and dont want to ruin the sump!

  I have one of the above, and would like to change the oil filter and oil myself. The handbook that comes from FIAT keeps such sensitive information secret as to the location of the sump plug and filter (not easily seen from under or above the engine).

  I was changing the oil in a friend's Ford Ka the other day. I noticed rather than more usual 10W40 the old Valencia Engine in it took 10W30. Now this seemed odd to me so I did some checking. It *seems* that the Zetec engine requires 10W30 and Ford *may* be recommending the same oil just to be consistent over their entire range.
